Who's currently cancelling their holiday to Portugal then?

@Needanewhat
@virginfannyornaments

Yes I agree as well

Why anyone is booking to go abroad is beyond me also with all the uncertainty it's just such a pain to keep cancelling stuff and de-booking and amending annual leave etc....

A colleague of mine changed her holiday from Rhodes to Madeira and now it's on an amber list apparently and all we've had all day in the office is her moaning and groaning
Thankfully my boss said to her "I can't believe you actually booked it to be honest" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

twilightermummy · 03/06/2021 23:05

I’ve cancelled our Portugal trip. I’m a teacher so really we could do the 10 day isolation upon returning but, 10 days at home with 3 kids under 9 in the summer? No thanks!
Very disappointed in all seriousness. It’s an utter shit show.

deathbypostitnote · 03/06/2021 23:09

we all need to move on with our lives and accept there will be cases of Covid and different mutations

Said by someone who does not have to have funding for non-Covid related NHS treatment, or step foot inside a Covid ward until you need treatment.

HereWeGoAgainPart2 · 03/06/2021 23:15

I’m supposed to be flying to Portugal next week, gutted Sad. I know you’re not supposed to travel for a holiday but the statement didn’t actually say what proof you needed to travel - it was more that the tests are expensive and self isolation is inconvenient which will mean that it won’t be much of an enjoyable holiday. I’m tempted to just go to the airport and see if I can get on the plane anyway. I’m vaccinated, have no intention of really raving the villa when I get there and tests and isolation aren’t an issue.

shakingstevensfan · 04/06/2021 00:18

The government have been saying for ages that vaccines will allow people to get back to normal and have talked about people being vaccinated after one jab. In fact, both the government and on here people have wrongly claimed one jab offers over 90% protection with the second jab only offering a little bit extra.
I know not to trust the government. But don't insult people who have.

Flaxmeadow · 04/06/2021 00:20

First world problems

TownTalkJewels · 04/06/2021 00:21

@moynomore

Seriously, I cannot believe that some people ONLY had the vaccine in expectation of being able to go on holiday abroad and are now saying they wish they hadn't bothered. I think I must live on a different planet.

Oh come one. No one had the vaccine only to have a holiday abroad. But it was very much sold to those of us who are not vulnerable that NOT ONLY would we be protecting the NHS and grannies, but we'd also get most of our freedoms, including travel, back.

Exactly. It’s laughable that we’re in a situation where we need to incentivise people to have the vaccine, as many people as possible, and especially the young, and the government’s big idea is.... ban travel to Portugal.

It could be a meme.

shakingstevensfan · 04/06/2021 00:26

Why wouldn't people have the vaccine to go on holiday?

Flaxmeadow · 04/06/2021 00:27

Is there something wrong with "protecting grannies" and "saving the NHS"?

RoseRedRoseBlue · 04/06/2021 00:46

Because it’s gone beyond that now.

Flaxmeadow · 04/06/2021 00:47

How?

RoseRedRoseBlue · 04/06/2021 01:06

It would seem that we are looking for a zero Covid strategy that is doomed to fail. The elderly and vulnerable, as far as I am aware, received their jabs months ago. The NHS was never overwhelmed. Our local vaccination centre is desperate for walk ins and even shuts early many days. We have protected those most at risk.

Flaxmeadow · 04/06/2021 01:16

Who said anything about zero covid?

The NHS was never overwhelmed

Really? Is that why in January people were dying in ambulances parked up outside A&E? Why we had well over a thousand dying a day? Why we had thousands of life saving operations cancelled? That NHS?

shakingstevensfan · 04/06/2021 01:21

People in their fifties are still getting second jabs.

Malteser71 · 04/06/2021 01:36

To be clear.

The reason I ‘don’t know why I bothered’ to be vaccinated is because it would appear that I have no more freedom than those who chose not to.

I have been doubly vaccinated since March. The chances of me having or catching covid are quite small. Certainly smaller than a person who has recused the vaccine.

And yet I’ve just had to cancel a holiday and I’ve lost £1,200 in flights. My colleague has lost a bit more, however she also refused the vaccine.

I’m astonished that people think that ‘selfish people like me’ only had the vaccine to go on holiday. Not true at all. I had it for my freedom, and denying my freedom is illogical, just as forcing me to wear a mask for ten seconds to traverse an outside terrace is illogical when I’m then allowed to remove my mask and sit next to a stranger.

MercyBooth · 04/06/2021 01:37

One minute its "you need to follow Government Covid guidelines" the next its "why are you stupid enough to believe what comes out of the press conferences" I havent been abroad since 1986 personally but i couldnt let yet more cognitive dissonance on here go unchallenged.

RoseRedRoseBlue · 04/06/2021 01:37

You may disagree, but zero Covid seems to be the way of this path. The situation in January was far, far different than now. I don’t deny the NHS was under immense strain, but this is an issue that ultimately pre-dates Covid, and if we analyse it critically, the NHS has actually been overwhelmed for years. It was not overwhelmed by Covid. What about the Nightingale Hospitals? What about the failures pre-dating March 2020? It’s all a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.

MercyBooth · 04/06/2021 01:39

The reason I ‘don’t know why I bothered’ to be vaccinated is because it would appear that I have no more freedom than those who chose not to

So maybe this is all going to plan. We have already seen the "it would have been better to have vaccine passports" on this thread.

Maybe this is a way to get the public to beg for them!

Suzi888 · 04/06/2021 03:51

@MrsKeats

why should I stop? Because we are in a pandemic and sitting on a sun lounger isn't the most important thing right now,
But we were told to get vaccinated if we want it to end. We did that. Now sudden new variants mean it was all pointless and we need new jabs. Hmm

At some point don’t they need to just get on with it or are we aiming fit immortalityConfused.

What happened to those experiments they were doing? The disco/clubbing ones?

RedRiverShore · 04/06/2021 06:19

I haven't had my second jab yet and wondering now whether to not bother and just have whichever booster I need when we can finally go on holiday and just get my vaccine passport then, like other holiday vaccinations. The ones now will be out of date by the time we can travel so will be irrelevant in however many years time.

ihearttc · 04/06/2021 06:48

@deathbypostitnote

You know absolutely nothing about me or my family so please don’t presume I don’t require hospital treatment. I’m fully aware just how important the NHS is, however the Government need to be honest with us. Unless we are aiming for Zero Covid to still carry on protecting the NHS then life needs to move on. We cannot carry on in this state of limbo. I honestly believe we should accept the amount of risk there is now and get on with our lives. For the most part, nhs staff in hospitals and covid wards have worked tremendously hard throughout the pandemic and I feel for them I really do. Yet GP’s practices, dentists etc are still not up and running properly and still can’t see patients “due to covid”. I have to be in a class all day with 30 small children yet a GP can’t see patients?

Dongdingdong · 04/06/2021 06:52

Not me. I can’t believe anyone would book a foreign holiday when there are still so many unknowns. It was always a possibility that this would happen!

Dongdingdong · 04/06/2021 06:53

Oh, and the last place I’d want to be right now is on an aeroplane. Germ boxes at the best of times.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 04/06/2021 06:56

@MrsKeats

why should I stop? Because we are in a pandemic and sitting on a sun lounger isn't the most important thing right now,
Absolutely.

We are living through a pandemic. It is still current. It’s unprecedented times. I have no sympathy for people losing money through booking a holiday. Zero.

Morgan12 · 04/06/2021 06:58

I can't say I have much sympathy tbh. I don't think non essential travel should be allowed just now. Kinda feel like kids being in school is more important and that one more year without foreign holidays was worth sacrificing.

I did book a staycation and also had serious reservations about that. I can't understand how anyone would feel comfortable abroad right now.
