Has anyone moved moderna appointment?

Hello, has anyone under 50 managed to successfully to move their moderna vacc to an early date to make it an 8 week gap between their first and second vaccine?

For the record all my family and friends under 50 who had AZ managed to move theirs to an 8week gap successfully. I’m wondering if it’s possible for the moderna jab too?

I'd like to know this too

Forgottenyeti · 31/05/2021 19:21

Oh I'm interested also. If you've tried I'd be really grateful if you could say if you are over 40 or not, some have suggested over 40s can move theirs.

Slayduggee · 31/05/2021 19:23

I tried but I could only move it forward by 2 days and there was no other location in the SW available. I’m guessing this is due to the very limited supplies of Moderna compared with AZ or Pfizer

Love2cycle · 31/05/2021 19:23

I'd like to know this too

miafeta · 31/05/2021 19:40

I tried once last week but there was nothing available before the original date.

Forgottenyeti · 31/05/2021 19:55

Are you both under 40?

tulips27 · 31/05/2021 19:59

I would like to move it too, but I have the same suspicion that limited supplies will make it much less likely.

Don't know about Moderna specifically however if you booked via the NHS England website (rather than called forward by GP) you have to have the guts to cancel your 2nd appointment before you get the chance to see what's available earlier! Even if you phone 119 they have to follow the same procedure i.e. cancel existing appointment before being able to see future availability and rebook! As my (AZ) 2nd was only 2 weeks hence I decided not to take the risk!

As my 2nd (AZ) was only 2 wee

321zyx · 31/05/2021 20:05

ops, apologies for repeat of last bit of post!

Redcrayons · 31/05/2021 20:08

In the same position.

I’m not quite brave enough to cancel and see if I can bring it forward in case I lose my slot as my current slot is 11 weeks exactly.

I’m hoping that once they’ve brought all the over 50s forward they’ll move down the age groups.

KihoBebiluPute · 31/05/2021 20:15

I haven't carried out this strategy yet, but I volunteer in various vaccination centres a couple of times a week, and at the AZ and Pfizer ones I volunteer at regularly I am always being asked at the end of the day if I want a jab when they have half a pack to use up after the last appointment. The nearest Moderna centre is a bit more difficult for me to get to so I don't volunteer there regularly, but my plan is to volunteer for the last shift of the day there as often as possible after the 8 week point from my 1st Moderna vaccine, in the hopes that sooner or later there will be a spare dose for me. My appointment for my 2nd dose is at a place even more difficult to get to, so it will be worth it to be able to cancel if I can get a dose done earlier.

miafeta · 31/05/2021 20:24

I am 42. Plenty of people I know moved their second dose appointments already- all AZ though.

Forgottenyeti · 31/05/2021 20:27

Thanks mia that seems to be what everyone was reporting previously.

Forgottenyeti · 31/05/2021 20:29

I don't actually know anyone else that's had moderna. It's odd.

Orangeteddy · 31/05/2021 21:26

Tried to move my 2nd Moderna vaccination via NHS website as realised I’d have no childcare for original date I’d booked. Cancelled it as only way to rebook but was then only given choice of 2 later dates so now it’s 12 weeks out from 1st shot, rather than 11. Not aware of anyone who’s managed to bring it forward (I’m mid 40’s)

Forgottenyeti · 31/05/2021 21:34

Ahh thanks @Orangeteddy. I've been too scared to try it and end up later.

woodfort · 31/05/2021 21:38

Cancelled mine (can’t make it) in order to re-book and I can’t find much. So at the moment I am not sure how I’m going to get the second one.
I don’t think the system lets you book before 12 weeks for Moderna (yet?). At least I see nothing at all and then any slot I want on 12 weeks exactly, which is when I can’t do.

bublinka · 31/05/2021 22:38

No. DH (50) tried to move his 2nd appt forward and ended up loosing his original slot (12 weeks). He now has an appt on the same day but in a different location 1.5 hours away. Seems like Moderna quantity and availability are limiting factors.

Tatum1234 · 31/05/2021 23:04

No, tried for dh (47) and ended up just rebooking original appointment.

tulips27 · 31/05/2021 23:09

I've really messed up because I booked my second one almost randomly, thinking I'd easily be able to change it (not bring it forward). I was excited because I had an appointment for my first jab for the next day at the time and just wanted to get the booking completed so i wouldn't lose it.

IndigoC · 31/05/2021 23:17

There are only small amounts of Moderna (few hundred thousand) being imported to the U.K. each week so no scope to overlap first and second doses right now I think.

Redcrayons · 01/06/2021 14:49

I’m concerned about low stocks, so I think I’ll keep my appointment as it is and start loitering around the vaccination centre from week 8 Grin.
Annoyingly my appointment is 10 days after my 50th birthday.

Mablefly · 01/06/2021 17:07

I'm under 50 and tried to bring my moderna jab forward. I ended up rebooking for the same day Grin

My husband (a year older) was able to bring forwarded his AZ jab by 2 weeks.

I assumed it was due to lower availability of Moderna and don't think I'll push my luck by rebooking again!

Forgottenyeti · 01/06/2021 19:41

I'll definitely not bother trying it then! 😂
