Has anybody else decided not to have their 2nd astrazeneca vaccine

Tittyfilarious · 30/05/2021 13:11

I had my first astrazeneca vaccine back in March and was really not that happy to have it but I was group 6 and millions of people had already had theirs by then so I was a little more confident to have it. I was very ill for 8 weeks afterwards headache nausea and dizzy spells and during this time the blood clots started to happen and at first it was only a worry after your 1st vaccine then it's now coming to light that's its a risk after your 2nd also. I'm aware you can get blood clots with lots of things but being under 40 and having previously had blood clots I just don't think I can take the risk. Is there anybody else who's had the 1st and now doesn't think they will have their 2nd?

It's not the same sort of clot, so that doesn't need to be a consideration.

@Cookerhood I hadn't seen that thread thank you I'll go onto that

There are a load of threads that may have interesting responses on regarding this. Personally I happily had my second, but it's a personal decision.

@Peppapeg

Can I ask what made you happily accept?
I’m really struggling to accept my second dose.

CrownKettle · 30/05/2021 13:43

I think it’s a personal decision for each individual based on their own circumstances. There is no right or wrong thing to do. Personally, I have my second AZ jab on Saturday and will be going ahead with it.

Mumski45 · 30/05/2021 13:47

It's a very personal decision OP but you need to weigh up the risk of complications from the jab against your risk of getting Covid and being seriously ill with it bearing in mind you are in group 6.

We have heard a lot about side effects of the jab which I think is out of proportion to the number of people who take it and have no problems at all.

I was thinking the same, it's been discussed at length since the clotting issue became known but I guess the problem is that even if you read all the 1000s of posts all you're getting is endless personal opinions that have no relevance to anyone else so I don't think it helps really.
NameChange456789 · 30/05/2021 14:13

I've been in two minds about it since getting my first. I was also in group six, not because of any health issues, but because I am a full time carer to my DC. I have decided I won't be going ahead with my second. I know its a very, very small risk but I just can't do it.

Motorina · 30/05/2021 14:17

It’s worth remembering that a single dose is very much less effective against the Indian variant than two. The Indian variant is much more transmissible than previous variants. There’s at least a suggestion that the Indian variant is more significant in younger people than previous variants were.

Clearly the decision is yours, but I would feel very uncomfortable were I to have had only a single dose in light of the rapidly increasing proportion of that variant.

whymewhyme · 30/05/2021 14:18

My husband had the AZ in march he was due him 2nd last week and has decided against it. Its not currently offered to his age group now and he doesn't want to mix vacvines either. He too was very unwell after having the vaccine.

Mindymomo · 30/05/2021 14:19

I had my second last week and I’m really pleased considering it’s effectiveness with the Indian variant.

Skyliner001 · 30/05/2021 14:19

Had my second yesterday. No side effects from first, none yet this time. I'm 40

Peppapeg · 30/05/2021 14:25

@lollipop10 of course :) for me I work in health and social care (so I had the first dose ahead of age group), and although I don't work in a setting with much direct contact with vulnerable people, i have to work from some locations where staff who do work there have contact; although it's as 'covid safe' as possible, I feel like I wanted to make sure I was doing what I could. A few members of my family had to shield as well as they are CEV, and although they have been vaccinated and we are sticking to 'the rules', again, I wanted to be doing what I could.

Overall I looked at the stats and the risk for me of not being vaccinated on a level beyond my own health was greater than the risk of clots, but that balance is probably because of my job and family. I think for everyone it will be a different set of considerations and choice.

orangebeach · 30/05/2021 14:27

I'm not having my second one yet. I had my first in March. A week or two later my arms started hurting so so much -my joints are in pain, the injection site still hurts and my hands felt as if they just wouldn't work, almost numb, and so stiff, like they weren't my hands. I felt as if I couldn't hold anything properly. I wake up with aching arms. Never known anything like it. The nurse at the surgery said it's not connected to the jab but I think it is. Govt policy is to get everyone vaccinated so the surgery isn't going to say anything different really.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 30/05/2021 14:29

This is a joke picture but I do think people need to be careful weighing up the risks. However if you feel your risks are low then your choice.

Has anybody else decided not to have their 2nd astrazeneca vaccine
Tittyfilarious · 30/05/2021 14:41

@orangebeachi I also was seen by the nurse at my gp surgery about how ill I was after my jab and she said it was absolutely nothing to do with the vaccine, this is part of why I don't want the 2nd if I were to be ill gp practice just don't want to know.
@TruelyStruttingHotpants that did make me smile and I do see where you are coming from

FuzzyPuffling · 30/05/2021 18:07

Nope. Had both of mine and all is tickety-boo.

whymewhyme · 30/05/2021 20:22

Of course the gp/nurse said it was nothing to do with the jab, they are paid to say that!

Cookerhood · 30/05/2021 22:13

Don't be ridiculous. They are paid the keep their patients as healthy as possible.
DotsandCo · 30/05/2021 22:14

Having mine tomorrow. Absolutely happy to be doing so 👍

Oly4 · 30/05/2021 22:17

Can’t wait for my second, not worried at all. Teeny tiny risk compared to growing again risk from Covid

Fitforforty · 30/05/2021 22:18

I really don’t know. I’m 38 and this is worrying me.

AgeLikeWine · 30/05/2021 22:21

No.

I will definitely be having mine next week. I had trivial side-effects from my first dose and the tiny risk from the vaccine is vastly outweighed by the risks of catching covid.

I do things with tiny risks every day, such as driving my car, or drinking a few glasses of wine and I also regularly do things with significantly higher risks such as riding my bike.

Hotpinkangel19 · 30/05/2021 22:23

I was due my second last Saturday- I cancelled it.
