Has anybody else decided not to have their 2nd astrazeneca vaccine

Tittyfilarious · 30/05/2021 13:11

I had my first astrazeneca vaccine back in March and was really not that happy to have it but I was group 6 and millions of people had already had theirs by then so I was a little more confident to have it. I was very ill for 8 weeks afterwards headache nausea and dizzy spells and during this time the blood clots started to happen and at first it was only a worry after your 1st vaccine then it's now coming to light that's its a risk after your 2nd also. I'm aware you can get blood clots with lots of things but being under 40 and having previously had blood clots I just don't think I can take the risk. Is there anybody else who's had the 1st and now doesn't think they will have their 2nd?

So glad to have my second az jab yesterday. The cases of the Indian variant are rocketing but our fuckwit pm is probably still going to ease restrictions, which means back to a crowded maskless supermarket even if I do nothing else.

OliveTree75 · 30/05/2021 22:26

My friend isn't having her second

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 30/05/2021 22:32

All those not having it: I'm interested to know how you calculated the risk of having it and weighed it up against the risk you take in not having it? What sort of mathematical process did you use - what data?

TortoiseShed · 30/05/2021 22:46

I'm due my second on Tuesday and am very happy to have it. I'm 37.

The odds of me getting seriously ill with covid are far greater than of me getting seriously ill with VITT after second dose of AZ. Ideally, I'd have zero risk from either, but that's not the way life is.

And anyway, the more of us who are vaccinated, the quicker we'll get out of the whole thing. So I'll take that small risk.

Mum2baby07 · 30/05/2021 23:27

It’s obviously a personal choice but for what it’s worth I too suffered a lot with side effects from the first AZ vaccine as you described. High fever, terrible headaches, dizzy spells, exhaustion and almost feeling ‘out of body.’ However vaccine two last week and apart from a sore arm for three days (never had this the first time) and a headache and tiredness the following day, no other symptoms! It might not be true for everyone but for me the second vaccine was a breeze compared to the first and I feel so much better knowing I’ve given myself as much protection as I can

DotsandCo · 01/06/2021 18:06

Just so you know...I had my second AZ jab yesterday as planned. Absolutely zero side effects! Not even a painful arm...zilch! No headache, nothing 🤷‍♀️

Very happy I am too 👍

OnlyTheLangOfTheTitberg · 01/06/2021 18:18

I had pretty rough side effects for about 3 days after the first AZ: headache, aches like I’d been run over by a bus, hot/cold, insomnia and a sore arm that was so painful I cried trying to get undressed (and I have a high pain threshold) which took about a week to ease off completely.

Had my 2nd last week: mildly sore arm that lasted about 3 days, similar to my annual flu jab. Otherwise absolutely fighting fit. The doctor who administered it said the growing evidence suggests most people have much milder side effects, if any, after the second injection.

Yep.
All these people looking for others to join them in I'm not getting my second dose.

Don't want it @Tittyfilarious then don't have it. No need to announce. Have a look at the actual data and risk rather than searching out others to affirm your choice, it's ridiculous Smile

They usually come on here and start a thread about it and want to see others agree. If they actually look at the maths and risk with second dose as others gave done they might realise how silly they sound 🤣😂

Does it need a mathematical risk calculation? The op has suffered side effects for 8 weeks. The nurse wasn't interested. It's a personal decision and the OP wants to talk about it and hear of other people's experiences. Nothing wrong with that.
Tittyfilarious · 01/06/2021 19:30

@passmethemilk Thankyou this is what I had posted for I don't want anyone to affirm my choice I cancelled the appointment based on my own personal experience with the 1st jab not the data that everyone talks about

I still haven’t decided. I had a bad reaction to the first AZ dose, as did my cousin. We have a history of autoimmune issues in our family and I strongly believe that AZ (like Covid) causes a problem for those with a predisposition to autoimmune diseases. Family members who have had Pfizer and Moderna have not faired as bad. I’m on the fence because a family member who had Covid has had a very severe case of “long Covid” for over 12 months, despite being very fit and healthy previously. I honestly don’t know what to do now, as I’m still suffering from side effects of the first dose six weeks later.

Cookerhood · 01/06/2021 19:40

The vaccine has been shown to help long Covid (think it was in 40%?)

Lindy2 · 01/06/2021 19:47

Do we really need yet another post on this exact subject?

What are these posters actually looking for when they make their announcements about not having their second vaccination? Posters come on clearly explaining the absolutely minimal risk yet the OPs are never interested in the science otherwise they'd obviously simply go ahead and have their second vaccination.

PlanetOfTheApesLives · 01/06/2021 19:50

@Tittyfilarious

🤦

hilarymantlepiece · 01/06/2021 19:54

Are under 40s not being offered an alternative now? If I understand what I’ve read and listened to correctly, vaccines can be combined and there’s some evidence suggesting that this method may actually offer better protection?
Can you discuss with your GP?
Really sorry you had a bad time after your first.

What I'm on about is everyone talks about data about the risks of it and the data is shows the risk is tiny etc but how can you honestly be sure the data is accurate? I've known more people have bad reactions to the vaccine than people who don't, when you do go to get help if you have a reaction they don't want to know it's brushed off and put down to something else and that is my worry how many bad reactions end up in hospital and its not put down to the vaccine it's put down to something else

Have your family members had their second dose of Pfizer yet? They tend to be more savage than the first, whereas AZ the reverse is typically true.
BunsyGirl · 01/06/2021 20:32

@Peppapeg Yes they have and all those that had Pfizer have been fine. One reacted strongly to Moderna but no ongoing issues as I’ve had with AZ.

Suzi888 · 01/06/2021 20:39

Me. I was sick a few weeks after it, whether it’s related or not I don’t know but I don’t want to take the risk.

Blabla81 · 01/06/2021 20:42

Sorry you had bad side effects for 8 weeks.
I can empathise. I’m 40 and had my first dose of AZ 4 weeks ago. I was extremely ill for 8 days post having it done. All the usual stuff; headache, body hurting, etc but I was vomiting for days too and had excruciating abdominal pain from day 4 onward, diarrhoea and period style bleeding. I was pretty much unconscious for a few of those days. Couldn’t eat or drink. I was adamant I wasn’t going to have my second dose.
Obviously I am now in a dilemma as I really don’t want it but I know how important it is that I have it. I keep dreaming about it and wake up crying (pathetic I know 😅). I will most likely just get it done for the greater good but I really am worried.

FluffyPJs · 01/06/2021 20:52

I had the first AZ 9 weeks ago. I had quite a strong reaction - very high temp, sweating and shivering for about 48 hours, then I slept, for a week!! Luckily it was the Easter holidays and I was off work. I was exhausted and for the next 3-4 weeks I was constantly falling asleep in the evenings and struggling to get up in the mornings, not something I usually have a problem with.

I was booked in for my second AZ jab yesterday. I was a bit worried about having another reaction but decided to go and have it. There was a pharmacist there who checked the paperwork and I mentioned the reaction I'd had. He said that typically most people who had a reaction the first time haven't the second time. I was still dubious but went ahead, thinking as a teacher I'd rather be protected.

I had the jab at 2pm yesterday and I can honestly say this time I have been fine, just a sore arm but that's mostly because I woke up lying on it. I know there's no guarantees but just wanted to share my experience. It's possible you could also not have a reaction to the second jab.

ChaToilLeam · 01/06/2021 20:58

I have had my first and despite having some weird side effects am definitely going for the second. Had really heavy period the day after jab, and it lasted two weeks. Rather that still than COVID, especially with all these variants popping up. Second AZ jab is meant to have a lot fewer side effects anyway.

Lumene · 01/06/2021 21:00

No, I did think about it but went ahead on balance of risk, especially with new variants.

FluffyPJs · 01/06/2021 21:08

Oh I forgot to say another side effect I think I had - my period was 2 weeks late (almost 50 so defo not pg!) and then it lasted over a week. As I'm peri menopausal they have only been 1-2 days for the last few years so it was quite a shock! I'm hoping that won't continue
