@somgreatapollo

I was at the last March and know several others that were. The police were out to do nothing more than create trouble. It was as plain as day. There is a YouTube video of the baton charging a group of young people who were sat on a patch of grass at Hyde Park basically harming nobody. There was no justifcation for the charge.
That you know about. In this day and age a video can be edited to whatever narrative you like. I am not saying this one has been or the police didn't act inappropriately. However you either need footage from different sources or to have been there before making such accusations. Social media is not gospel truth.
jewel1968 · 29/05/2021 13:08

@Baluchistan95 can I ask you a few questions to understand a bit more. Full disclosure I have been vaccinated twice but I do have concerns as I know no medical intervention is without risk. My overall view is I think COVID is a bigger risk. Time will tell if my risk assessment is right or not.

Questions for you if you don't mind me asking:

  • would you knowingly have close contact with someone who had tested positive for COVID.
  • have you any fear about getting COVID
  • why does it matter if it escaped from a lab
  • do you think travel is a right
  • who benefits from how we are handling COVID and why
  • what will you do if COVID passports are introduced and you need one for travel, school, entering any public place
  • would anything make you get a vaccine
Thanks in anticipation Smile
lljkk · 29/05/2021 13:27

- who benefits from how we are handling COVID and why

Matt Hancock's sister? Because she part-owned the company that got a NHS waste disposal contract?

donquixotedelamancha · 29/05/2021 13:38

Freedom from what for whom? What's this march for?

Erm...someone who doesn't want to have an experimental vaccine that is still being trialled and only has an emergency approval

Presumably you don't understand how medical trials work. A stage 4 trial is the collection of data after approval. I suspect we have more data on these Covid vaccines than any other in history.

All medicines are assessed for efficacy versus risk in different populations in this way

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 29/05/2021 13:40

Are countries all over the world working to help Hancock's sister Shock

(This thread is the best❤ I love this stuff so much Grin)

donquixotedelamancha · 29/05/2021 13:46

The logic of...

I think you lost OP at that point.

At the last March the police had plain clothes officers and paid agitators causing trouble.

Bit thick of the police to tell you that.

Have any marches caused another lockdown so far? Or even seen a rise in cases afterwards? Or is it only ones that are challenging the lockdown measures?

No they haven’t but then weirdly there doesn’t seem to be much appetite for these marches when case rates are high.... didn’t see anyone out waving their placards in January?

Yes they don't seem so bothered about 'freedom' when it's cold or if there's heavy rain.

But also regardless of Covid spread, they cause disruption and distress to long suffering local residents, they divert already depleted cash strapped police from more important duties - and they take a lot of taxpayer money in policing and crowd control costs.

murbblurb · 29/05/2021 14:33

Top tip - if you want attention, marching on a Saturday in London isn't the way to get it. Happens every week and the rest of the country does not care or notice.

FloraFauna27 · 29/05/2021 14:34

‘Boo! Down with lockdown!’

‘We don’t like it either. That’s why we have developed and procured a number of free vaccines and…’

‘Boo! Down with that too!’

Stellar logic OP Wink

@MareofBeasttown

This weekend, I plan to eat out, go to a museum, see a friend, sit in a cafe, and do some shopping while the freedom marchers protest about not having any freedom.
Exactly. I've been to dance fitness this morning, a hike yesterday and tonight I'm going for dinner Hmm
newnortherner111 · 29/05/2021 14:47

In answer to the OPs question, no not going. Will achieve minimal press coverage, as noted the government will be at home probably out of London, and the main people probably benefiting are the large companies running coffee shops.

As for 'lockdown', we have had nothing near it at any time at all. The only significant restrictions left are on travel abroad and going to large scale events such as theatre, sport and music. As for Covid so-called passports, it will be the countries you visit that will be restricting people, much more so than the UK.

pinkearedcow · 29/05/2021 14:48

No hyperbole on that there march. No siree.

Freedom march today.
Parker231 · 29/05/2021 15:00

It’s just another march by people with nothing better to do and want to cause trouble. Most will have no idea what the march is about - as usual.
I’ve had a gym class this morning, lunch at a local cafe sat in the sunshine and having a bbq later. Tomorrow I’m spending most of the day as a volunteer vaccinator. I know who is making better use of their weekend.

corlan · 29/05/2021 15:06

Well - maybe a tiny bitWink

Freedom march today.
strangeshapedpotato · 29/05/2021 15:12

We should just machine gun the lot of them.

Tealightsandd · 29/05/2021 15:48

@strangeshapedpotato

We should just machine gun the lot of them.
How about foam bubbles instead? Less violent, no permanent harm - and quite a lot of fun.
bumblingbovine49 · 29/05/2021 15:59

What the hell are they protesting against?. Most restrictions have been lifted and we are due to have pretty much everything completely back to normal in less than 3 weeks . Why choose now to protest lockdowns etc when they are pretty much over?. It does seem like people just want to cause disruption for no good outcome whatsoever

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 29/05/2021 15:59

@pinkearedcow

No hyperbole on that there march. No siree.
Zoom in and read some of the signs. It is worth it.
LeanneBrownsLonelyBraincell · 29/05/2021 16:00

Everyone I know who supports these things thinks Covid doesn't exist, that the cure for cancer is widely known about but there's no money in curing it, and that sea moss in a smoothie / crystals up your vag will sort out most ills.

So no, I shall not be supporting any of them, as I am not a twat.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 29/05/2021 16:06

They are coming for your children

Crimes against humanity

😂😂😂

Freedom march today.
IsThePopeCatholic · 29/05/2021 16:08

Oh dear! The libertarians are at it again. Some people have no concept of communal good.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 29/05/2021 16:08

No we are all obviously shit parents and would rather go to the pub 🤪

Freedom march today.
SmallPrawnEnergy · 29/05/2021 16:14

Lmao. What a waste of time. I’ve been able to go shopping, see family and go eat inside somewhere today. What exactly are you fighting for? It’s like toddler wanting to go outside and mum saying, we are outside and they start having a tantrum.

Mind you, I suppose it answers the question “what is a group of idiots called?” A freedom march.
