Are you one of the people who is very very reluctantly going to get vaccinated?

Could you please tell me how you are managing the stress/anxiety surrounding it? I don’t want this vaccine- but I’m being forced to go for it. I’m so worried nervous that I cannot sleep properly.I need to book the bloody thing soon but I just cannot bring myself to do it..I’m 40 so not sure which one I’ll get.

Oh so everyone wants to talk to you about the vaccination except the therapist!
That's frustrating.

penni00 · 30/05/2021 22:36

She is the professional, so I expect addressing generalised anxiety is a good first step.
All the best OP, I am sure you will be happy with your decision when it is the right time for you.

CautiousBlonde · 31/05/2021 04:14

@CandyLeBonBon

Well bearing in mind that in the most recent cases of those diagnosed, the majority of cases are in the unvaccinated. But honestly op. You do you. We don't live in a police state. You are entitled to your choice.
Could you post a link for this please?
moregarlic · 31/05/2021 06:16

The lack of empathy on this thread is staggering.

OP, please don’t be coerced and bullied into having a medical intervention you don’t want. You are in charge of your body, it’s your choice.

Anyone who says otherwise clearly doesn’t believe in consent. (Which is frankly terrifying).

moregarlic · 31/05/2021 06:21

As to your question, no, I wouldn’t ‘reluctantly’ have a medical treatment I felt coerced into. And, for what it’s worth, I’ve decided I won’t have this particular vaccine until the trials have concluded.

moregarlic · 31/05/2021 06:48

Last point! I’ve just read back and seen you’re worried about covid too. Could you do a bit of research to put your mind at ease?

E.g. As of Dec 2020 there were 101 people under the age of 44 and with no preexisting conditions who died of covid.

I happened to pass by Twickenham stadium earlier and noticed that there were hundreds of people around. Turns out they're having a big vaccination event there today. I must say, I find it quite encouraging that there are so many people who want to give up part of their bank holiday to get vaccinated.

Yes it was just on LBC
Zzelda · 31/05/2021 11:06

This is pretty much what happened to me. I was there for an hour and a half. I was very, very reluctant and distressed. But was talked into it. Now I am devastated I didn’t follow my gut

Why are you devastated, @Swimbikerunmummy? Have you had side effects?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/05/2021 13:27

In case it tips the balance for anyone feeling hesitant, things aren't looking great at the moment. Scientists starting to say maybe restrictions should be kept beyond 21st June. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57304515 Having more younger people vaccinated would make a difference to transmission rates.

purpleme12 · 31/05/2021 13:38

I've got mine booked for Sunday now

Itsnotyourchoiceanymore · 31/05/2021 17:02

@moregarlic not sure if we are the same age- I’m 40 but doesn’t it bother you with things opening and you being ‘unprotected’?

This worried me equally- hence the rock hard place feeling

I’ve booked an appointment but I don’t feel good about it..went for a walk broke down and cried in the middle of the woods

MarshaBradyo · 31/05/2021 17:06

Op I’ve found woth anything that causes anxiety around health that the best thing to do is do it in small chunks

Give yourself get outs mentally. Turn up to centre but you know it’s still a choice, breathe. Speak to the person vaccinating about your fears. Think about breathing and small steps forward.

Not for me but any upcoming health situation for dc, I’ve found this has helped

mygenericusername · 31/05/2021 17:16

OP. I feel for you. I’m in a similar position being harassed by everyone I know to have a vaccine I have zero intention of taking. I just smile and say I will have it when the trials have concluded and the long term side effects are known.

Itsnotyourchoiceanymore · 31/05/2021 17:28

@mygenericusername I understand- but I’m being scared witless about the dangers of the unvaccinated and that I’ll end up in the icu...specially with my work asking us to come in now. This is why I broke down crying..,
I want to do the right thing but I’m not comfortable with it all
I’m also very scared of covid

OP posts:
Itsnotyourchoiceanymore · 31/05/2021 17:30

@MarshaBradyo thank you- I will try that not just with the vaccine but with life in general- I cannot cope with the pressure

Backofbeyond50 · 31/05/2021 17:47

Just say no if you don't want it. If it is easier just lie. God knows I wish I had lied when I let it slip to an anti vax relative that I had it. Would have been simpler to tell her what she wanted to hear.

moregarlic · 31/05/2021 20:42

@Itsnotyourchoiceanymore I’m in my 30s and not worried. I’ve looked at the data and can see it’s very unlikely I’d die or become very ill.

Like everything in life, you have to decide what risk you’re willing to live with. For me, with just 101 healthy under 44s having died from covid, I’m not going to worry myself unduly with it.

I’m really sorry you’re struggling so much with it, I don’t envy your feeling between a rock and a hard place. Would researching the stats reassure you more? What about talking with other people who are undecided on the vaccine? I’d never dream of telling you what to do, but I would put some trust in your gut.

Poorlykitten · 01/06/2021 07:04

All vaccines come with a risk. Life involves risks. Taking any medication can involves a risk of an adverse reaction.

Zzelda · 01/06/2021 07:43

It would be silly to lie about this as people suggest. The truth will come out as soon as you want to go somewhere that insists on evidence of vaccination.

bumbleymummy · 01/06/2021 09:05

@zzelda I think people are talking about more informal situations. In any case, it looks like negative tests/proof of previous infection are also acceptable for travel.

MaxNormal · 01/06/2021 09:27

@Itsnotyourchoiceanymore I am not having the vaccine due to medical history.
I'm in my mid forties, a few years older than you, and feel no worry at all about catching covid (actually I probably had it in March 2020 but they weren't testing much then).

I don't have any if the risk factors associated with a worse outcome and my risk of hospitalisation or death is not a high number.

PlanetOfTheApesLives · 01/06/2021 19:24

We are so lucky to live in a country that is attempting to get the vaccine out to as many as possible. Why do those that don't want it have to constantly whinge on about it, if you don't want it then don't have it and let someone else have yours. I feel for those countries that desperately want more doses whilst the over privileged in the first world countries just whinge on and on.

The latest news is that the government is backtracking on that. Seeing that more than 75% of the population has had the first jab, I suppose iit’s not needed anymore
