Second dose AZ side effects worse??

Hi

Just wondering if anyone who had side effects from their first dose of AZ, and now had the second dose, can tell me if the side effects were worse/different second time round. I had my first dose of AZ at the same time as my husband. He was absolutely fine, not even a sore arm. I was wiped out for 2 days and not right for about a week. I’m not exaggerating when I say I felt horrible. My Daughter is 10 and only on one other occasion (when we all had flu) have I ever taken to bed for an entire day. I know having the second dose is important but just want to know what to expect.

Not great after the first And felt rough, but absolutely fine after the second.

Rough for 3 days after the first, nothing after second.

Ive heard that the second dose is a lot milder/no symptoms, particularly if you had a bad reaction to the first one.

I felt awful for about 48hours after my first AZ and had a very painful arm for 3 weeks. I had my second jab a couple of weeks ago and no side effects whatsoever and no painful arm.

Was like you after the first, honestly, if I had come down ill like that with a bug I would have called an ambulance.

Second one I was absolutely fine, not even a sore arm. Niggly headache for a bit the next day, but that's all.

I felt awful after my first, and my second is booked for in a few weeks. I am hoping to get off mildly/not at all! I don't have any help with the DC so I have booked it for a Saturday so if I feel rough the next day, at least I don't need to drive anybody anywhere.

But nothing is going to stop me having the vaccine!

There are several threads about this & most people have very few side effects after the 2nd dose.

Tired after the first. Tiny but very colourful bruise, very sore to the touch.

Second time, nothing! I was convinced it was going to be worse and I was very concerned about the risk of clots due to family history. Day 7, all fine so far.

Thank you all. This is really reassuring. Every Google search and news article was saying the side effects would be worse after the second dose but I found one that said that is true of most vaccines but AZ seemed to have milder symptoms. I just wanted to hear it from real people who have been there. I really don’t want to feel that rubbish again.

Had flu like symptoms for one day after the first, nothing after the second.

I can totally empathise. I remember thinking ‘thank God my husband was ok’ because I was fit fit nothing. Good idea to plan for the weekend but hopefully you will be fine this time round.

I and 3 friends all had ours around the same time. None of us had side effects after the second

I felt terrible for two days after the first dose and took about 5 days in total to feel completely back to normal. Had 2nd dose last week and prepared myself for feeling the same, but had no symptoms at all. All my friends have been symptomless after the 2nd.

I had my first yesterday and feel like utter shite! I had to call in sick despite wfh.

1st I felt rubbish for 2-3 days. 2nd, no problem. Early night, a bit tired. Absolutely fine by morning.

Felt awful for 2 days after the first, a bit warm the day after the second but 1000 times better than the first one.

Very sore arm for days after 1st and felt awful for a day or so too, flu like symptoms.
Nothing after 2nd, slightly sore arm but hardly noticeable

This graph shows symptoms from the second jab after 2 AZ, 2 Pfizer or the mixture (I’m on the trial) - 2nd AZ has the lowest level of side effects compared to the other jabs.

I felt absolutely shocking after the first. I was ill with flu like symptoms and terrible arm pain for just over a week. After the second felt slightly warm that night, but absolutely nothing else, not even a sore arm. I'm amazed as I was absolutely dreading the second dose.

Had my second dose yesterday, much milder side effects today- just tired mostly.
