Vaccine side effects

Just interested...

If you get any reaction, is it immediate or gradual after a day or so?

Depends on the vaccine and the individual I think. Immediate reactions will be rare allergic ones. Then there will be an inflammatory phase over 24-48 hours as the innate immune system kicks in, which causes the majority of reported side effects.

Within a few hours of my Moderna shot (yesterday) I had a slightly sore arm but that was it. Today I had a very sore arm and a heavy, muzzy headed feeling in the morning. By the afternoon I was clear headed again.

This article is a good read on understanding the immune response:

Interested to hear as I'm getting mine in a couple of days.

Enough4me · 12/05/2021 01:21

Astrazenica for me, heavy arm, black bruising even a week on, red swollen patches around the bruising for a couple of days, plus feverish hot. All reduced and bearable with paracetamol for the first few days.

Glitterblue · 12/05/2021 04:25

AZ for me at 11am on the Thurs. I started with chills at 10pm which alternated with sweating all that night and the next day and the most horrible headache through to the Saturday night. I then felt much better but was exhausted for about a week.

Suzi888 · 12/05/2021 04:29

Zero side effects, until now almost four weeks on I have abdominal pain. Unsure if it’s related to the jab or not, but it’s unpleasant and I feel sick also.

Monkeytennis97 · 12/05/2021 05:11

AZ here. Just sore arm for two days for DH and I. Can still feel it on and off a bit 9 weeks on. Nothing else.

mumofthree321 · 12/05/2021 05:19

AZ too for me and DH. Slightly sore arm (same as any other jab) but no other side effects for either of us :)

ExitChasedByABee · 12/05/2021 05:39

I had the vaccination in March for the first dose a few days before my period. It effected my period and the subsequent periods after that. I also had a sore arm, body pains, dizzy spells, nausea the day after the vaccination.

JimBobNoJob · 12/05/2021 09:36

I had Moderna, (Friday afternoon) arm neck and shoulder was achy and sore straight away.

30 hours later,(Saturday night) arm really started to hurt and had the chills, 6 hours after that (midnight) temperature kicked in. Arm was agony, couldn’t move it. Headache, ropey tummy, aching all over, fuzzy head and tiredness.

Everything started to ease within 24 hours, but, legs and arms have still been achy and feel a lot more tired than normal.

It’s now day 12 and lymph nodes have come up in both armpits, very tender and swollen.
I’m hoping it won’t last too long as it’s quite uncomfortable!

FireworksAndSparklers · 12/05/2021 09:41

AZ 1 at 16.50 - felt nauseated and generally unwell overnight that night, then just very fatigued with a sore arm the next 24 hours, then abruptly better.

AZ 2 at 16.50 Friday - slightly sore arm only for 24 hours, then muscles started aching, then in a lot of pain overnight on the Sunday night, still in a lot of pain in muscles/joints now. Slight temperature on and off. GP has prescribed codeine to manage pain. I'm aware this level of pain post AZ, particularly second dose, is very unusual, though!

The Zoe app has good information about side effects as they're the ones gathering the most data.

FireworksAndSparklers · 12/05/2021 09:44

DH had Pfizer back in December. No side effects apart from sore arm after first dose. Second dose caused a few days of numbness in the arm of the vaccine and swollen, painful lymphglands. I think the side effects started kicking off after 24-36 hours.

My parents both had AZ - Mum felt rough overnight only (had it at 10.30am) with the first one. Second dose just had a sore arm for 24 hours. Dad had a sore arm only after his first dose and is waiting for his second on Friday.

Puppylucky · 12/05/2021 12:26

I sailed through the first dose Pfizer. 2nd dose on Saturday - very tired Saturday night and Sunday. Stomach pains and vomiting on Monday combined with muzzy head and sinus headache. Still feel delicate today. Not sure if it's side effects or a common or garden tummy bug but it's not great.

chillychicken · 13/05/2021 07:49

Pfizer dose 1 11am: tongue started to swell and metallic taste in mouth within half an hour. This lasted a few hours. Headache started soon after. Woke up the next morning with a very sore arm which lasted two days and very tired for that day which peaked around 6pm.

Pfizer 2 10am yesterday: immediate burning sensation in tongue and lips followed by metallic taste which lasted all day. Arm sore within 3hrs. Felt tired and off balance by 4pm. Cold but no temperature. Slept 8.5hrs last night in a very deep sleep. This morning I got up at 7, had a cup of tea and I’m now back in bed feeling exhausted. I’ve got to get ready to take DC to school. Currently not sure how I’m going to manage that!!

SpanishFly · 15/05/2021 09:59

I had my first dose of AZ yesterday at 3.30. 45 mins later my arm was very heavy and the jag site was a bit nippy.
During the night, woke quite a few times as I couldn't get comfy due to arm feeling like it was sore and bruised.
My hips are sore, but that's more than probably because I couldn't get comfortable rather than due to the vaccine. I've got a fuzzy head and am debating taking some painkillers, but will wait to see if it gets any worse first.
My husband got his yesterday too, and I heard him taking painkillers during the night and complaining of a sore head. He's still zonked out, so I'm not sure how he's feeling. I'll update tonight on both of us.

SallyCinnabon · 15/05/2021 10:03

OP, I had mine in the morning was fine going to bed just extremely hungry and in the middle of the night it hit. Fever/flu like symptoms, body aches, chills, sweating, feeling nauseous and a thumping head. I took paracetamol but kept waking up every couple hours of do and in the morning I just felt drained and my head was banging. I had to call in sick, slept it off and that evening felt back to normal again just a little illiterate.

I had the Astra Zeneca.

SallyCinnabon · 15/05/2021 10:04

🤣 Sorry typo I meant tired not illiterate, but I did have a fuzzy head and brain fog so not too far from the truth 😄

laughoutquiet · 15/05/2021 10:17

@SallyCinnabon just had mine.

In all honesty I was hoping to get out of something today Grin

AZ Wednesday 5pm, felt fine until bedtime, bit uncomfortable to sleep on/brush against
Thursday very sore arm at vaccination site, better with Nurofen, felt woozy in the afternoon
Friday arm less sore, manageable without painkillers, felt dizzy from lunchtime onwards
Saturday arm still mildly sore, very dizzy from mid-morning, vomited after lunch, still dizzy.

Ninefeettall · 15/05/2021 15:20

AZ - started shivering and shaking about 12 hours after, had a fever all the next day and felt like I had flu. Couldn’t get out of bed. The day after that I was well enough to get up but felt drained and arm hurt really badly. Now 8 weeks on and my arm still hurts and still having fatigue. Yes I’ve yellow carded it (not that it makes any difference!)

DramaAlpaca · 15/05/2021 23:57

Had Moderna yesterday morning. Injection site is sore and swollen. I'm dog tired, slept 14 hours last night. Have a slightly dodgy tummy and feel a bit nauseous.

HeechulOppa · 16/05/2021 02:33

AZ on Thursday at midday - fine for the rest of the day and night, albeit sore arm. Woke up on Friday feeling rough - flu-like symptoms, feverish and achey, mild sore throat, very sleepy, arm very painful and swollen around jab site. No headache though. Improved dramatically after about 4 hours though still felt zonked, fell asleep from 8pm-11.30pm, woke up feeling fluey again, back to sleep 3am, woke up feeling pretty normal 9am next day except for sore arm. Weirdly the swelling is a perfect circle around the jab site - you can even see a faint outline. I’m now 50 hours post vaccine. Oddly I have, today, developed a irritating cough.

SallyCinnabon · 16/05/2021 17:40

[quote laughoutquiet]@SallyCinnabon just had mine.

🤣🤣🤣 Did you escape side effects OP?

SallyCinnabon · 16/05/2021 17:45

Has anyone had crazy dreams? I’ve had such vivid/lucid dreams since the AZ vaccine.

laughoutquiet · 16/05/2021 17:56

@SallyCinnabon no! I was fine all day until the evening and then I just dropped! Awful night sweats and felt like I had a hangover in the morning. Took paracetamol all day and was fine by 4pm. Very sore arm though!

OP posts:
SallyCinnabon · 16/05/2021 18:01

That’s sounds like me @laughoutquiet went to bed feeling a bit smug that I was fine 🤣 and then middle of the night it hit. I slept it off and was fine teatime next day too (still feel a bit tired/washed out though and arm very sore too!) Glad you’re ok now, I’ve heard if you react to the first dose the second dose is much better (apparently) 👍🏻
