“Yes absolutely, that's on the agenda, and if necessary that's something that could be done," he said.
"When we expressed a preference for non-AstraZeneca vaccines for this age group it was done in a very provisional way on the basis of everything going absolutely right.
"And if the evidence shows that the risk benefit balance for people in their 30s is to be offered that vaccine then absolutely that recommendation will be changed.
"At the moment we don't think that's necessary, but it could well become a recommendation in the future."

This is what was said.

DixonD · 16/05/2021 17:20

@rainbowfairydust

I don't think it will speed it up though will it... They've cast doubt on the safety of AZ for under 40s so alot of people in that age range are going to refuse it.. They can't just take that recommendation off the table because they want more people vaccinated and AZ is easier to get that done with ffs
This! So many are so keen for anything other than AZ they just won’t take it.

They’ll be left with many unvaccinated, the very opposite of what they are trying to achieve.

Thanks for the replies regarding booking when pregnant. I am 37 and not able to book yet, hate feeling so vulnerable particularly when things are opening up (and I have other health issues).

BrokenAmp · 16/05/2021 19:44

@RC000 no got a text last night I’m in Bracknell

BrokenAmp · 16/05/2021 19:47

I do have disabilities but nothing that makes me vulnerable as such. My husband born 82 got one through the nhs website but he’s listed as my carer 🤷‍♀️

Pearl97 · 16/05/2021 19:55

I hope under 35’s can book very soon!

Raspberry12 · 16/05/2021 20:13

Got Moderna at The Building Design Centre in London this afternoon - it’s very efficient! I was actually a bit anxious and everyone made me feel at ease. I’m very grateful for everyone involved to make this happen Smile I hope everyone else gets vaccinated soon too, especially pregnant women - I wish there was priority given... it must be stressful enough being pregnant during a pandemic. I saw in the news that partners can finally accompany pregnant women to scans now www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9583247/amp/Hospitals-England-allow-pregnant-women-partners-sides.html

FeedMeSantiago · 16/05/2021 20:35

An 18 year old relative was vaccinated in Wales today, they seem to be roaring ahead there.

I'm 33, in England and hoping I don't have to wait too much longer.

BlankieBops · 16/05/2021 21:02

@midnight90

I'm 30 and I'm fed up of waiting 😭just want it to come around now as I want to start trying for a baby.
Same! I’m 36 and we put off trying for a second during covid and now really want my jab so we can plan again!
BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 16/05/2021 21:26

I really despair!

NuttyinNotts · 16/05/2021 21:43

It seems that the original plan was to only offer an alternative to AZ for the under 40s. I'd have no problems if they changed it to offering a genuine choice of vaccine for the under 40s. It would mean that in places like Blackburn people would be able to get AZ on the vaccine busses and that would be a fairly rational decision there. But to remove choice to under 40s, particularly after offering alternatives to the least risky portion of that age group (38-40) is just going to increase the number of people remaining unvaccinated.

Also, I can't tell if this is a rational thought or not... But I'd be very hesitant to accept AZ as we near the peak of a 3rd wave. If hospitals were anywhere near overwhelmed, I'd be highly worried that a persistent headache could get dismissed by overworked medical staff. We know survival from VITT is better with early diagnosis, that isn't possible if medical care becomes harder to access.

YourSexNotGenderIsOnFire · 16/05/2021 21:44

I think reversing the AZ age decision would be monumentally stupid. When they were saying that 30+ may get AZ and would have no choice I was planning to delay getting the vaccine for a number of months until there was more data on the impact of AZ on women my age (I'm 35) so that I could assess the risks properly. However, I'm happily waiting to sign up on the basis that I'll get Pfizer/Moderna. I'm sure others must be in the same boat.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 16/05/2021 21:55

@YourSexNotGenderIsOnFire The immense relief I felt when they changed their recommendations for 30-40s surprised me. I'm very pro-vax and a (usually) pretty rational person! Since they changed their recommendations I've been positively counting down the days until I can book a vaccination. We can't be the only ones. Really hope they don't change the messaging

DixonD · 16/05/2021 23:01

@BridgetJonesDaiquiri

I really despair!
It’s not that dramatic if you can find the full (short) conversation about it.

He said it’s something they can look into but it’s not necessary at the moment. They’re being open minded it seems.

Would be bloody stupid though!

Herein98 · 17/05/2021 00:03

Does anyone know what is taking so long to get below the 38-39 year olds?! We’re supposed to be trying to outrun this Indian variant while simultaneously loosening the restrictions tomorrow so why have we been stuck on this two year age group for almost a week?! Confused

YourSexNotGenderIsOnFire · 17/05/2021 01:09

Does anyone know what is taking so long to get below the 38-39 year olds?!

I would imagine the fact that they're not using the AZ jab slows things down a bit, given the logistics for Pfizer/Moderna. I read that they are also accelerating some second jabs which will have an effect too.

I'm really hoping 35+ goes live in the morning.

LittleRen · 17/05/2021 06:11

I’m 36 and I have been able to book since last night. Only my second jab though so maybe that is a factor.. not sure if once you have first through gp you get access to nhs booking site

NeilBuchananisBanksy · 17/05/2021 06:34

Just tried this morning and it still says I'm not eligible.

springhasalmostsprung · 17/05/2021 06:48

Me 35 and dh 36 not able to book this morning Sad

rainbowfairydust · 17/05/2021 06:51

I don't think it will open today, maybe tomorrow night for Wednesday perhaps

RC000 · 17/05/2021 07:32

36 and can't book still!

pinkpanther84 · 17/05/2021 09:25

37 and still can't book

38-39 became eligible to book on Thursday you only then asked that question 3 days later, that’s not really “so long”
DixonD · 17/05/2021 09:34

Yes, it’s not long. I’m 38 and we had to wait much longer than 3 days for it to drop from 40+.

stitchmaker85 · 17/05/2021 09:41

I think it was about 10 days between 40+ and 38+??
