I thought that was promising too but sadly not

vcrees6 · 16/05/2021 09:08

I got a message from my husband at the vaccination centre just now saying that he is too young! He is 38 in 3 days and the booking site let us book him an appointment. He never got a text but did get an email confirmation and we booked through the national website.

user19097527484949 · 16/05/2021 09:09

If you're really really desperate to get it, go down to a centre nearish 5 pm and ask for a spare. I now know 10 people who have successfully done that. Good luck.

There seem to be spares a lot.

springhasalmostsprung · 16/05/2021 09:10

@vcrees6 so are the refusing to do his vaccine?!

I would, but sadly our nearest is 30-40 minutes away and 5pm is the childrens dinner time :(
user19097527484949 · 16/05/2021 09:13

@springhasalmostsprung of course I didn't think of that. That's not very practical in case they don't have it. If it's any consolation, the people I've known who've done it, were successful every time. So it may be worth the drive. All depends on your circumstances. Good luck. I know everyone is just so anxious to be protected.

vcrees6 · 16/05/2021 09:14

I told him to tell them that the website says 38 by 1 July and they acquiesced. But WTH!

vcrees6 · 16/05/2021 09:17

They said they didnt care if he had a booking reference or not because 'anyone can book through the website'. I beg to differ!

Tinks177 · 16/05/2021 09:18

@Lycopodium8

I feel exactly the same *@Tinks177*. I'm 36, pregnant and work in a FE college with 7000 students. Everyone I know has been vaccinated now
I feel so sorry for people in your boat and really hope you're not waiting much longer. I know a few pregnant teachers who are getting really concerned now, especially as masks are no longer mandatory for students.

I am so glad to see people of all ages getting vaccinated and it's brilliant there's such an appetite for it, particularly as a lot of the press made out us 'younger ones' wouldn't take a vaccine, but I just don't understand how they've completely skipped pregnant ladies as a priority. If they missed out any other group classed as clinically vulnerable there would have been uproar. If there's a good explanation, fair enough, but I've been looking into it for a while now and can't find one. I feel lucky that at 32, even without priority, hopefully I won't be waiting much longer. It's the younger pregnant ladies, especially those in their third trimester and most at risk, I feel really sorry for. It's just so unfair.

@user19097527484949
It's a good idea and might be possible on a day dh is home so we don't have to drag the children on the round trip!
I should probably let DH go first though as he's a year older than me!

It's a risk. I suggest the one who can get there easier, goes first- to suss out the centre / situation and ask a few questions. Get him to go from 4ish and see what the situation is. I've known teenagers to get spares. They'll give it to anyone who's there if they have it ! I'm talking about Pfizer only. No idea with AZ.

Thesearmsofmine · 16/05/2021 09:23

Late 1983 here and still not able to book.

IWishTheBishopWell · 16/05/2021 09:25

32 here, my area seems to still be on the over 45s. I have underlying conditions but my asthma wasn't bad enough to qualify me for group 6, and none of my other conditions qualified.

I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis in early March but that didn't bump me up to group 6 as due to Covid I still haven't had an appointment for pre meds counselling so not yet on immunosuppressants to bump me up.

I'm really worried as to how long DH and I will have to wait.

Gosh it really shouldn't be this hard!
springhasalmostsprung · 16/05/2021 09:28

@user19097527484949 he can as he drives (almost) past one on his way home from work. He could leave early one day. Whether he'll bother or not is another question

Gunhilds · 16/05/2021 09:35

84 here and just tried the nhs website and was able to book! Have not received any SMS to book.

Obviously rollout is not even, but I honestly think all over 30s will have been offered 1st dose by 1st week of June.

Papers reporting an increase of 500,000/day to 800,000 in the next two weeks. If you consider 1st doses has crept up to close to 200,000/day average for the last week, and you add 200,000 from that extra 300,000, which is probably low end, it might be all of it.

400,000 1st doses a day is huge. You will get through each year in about 2 days. (About 8m people aged 30-39 in England) As of 13th, I think 25% had already had 1st dose. So 6m/0.4 = 15 days from when they ramp up, or 30 days from now. But if you then consider take up won’t be 100%, then you are looking at less than 30 days for sure.

Doomsdayisstillcoming · 16/05/2021 09:38

8-9m in U.K. not England**

KitchenWarrior · 16/05/2021 09:40

1984 (June) and booking site still saying I'm not eligible, grrr!

Chamonixshoopshoop · 16/05/2021 09:41

36 here and had mine yesterday, DH 35 has been invited to book too.
As other posters have said, if you go at the end of the day I’m sure you’d get one.
My centre started to empty at 4pm, and the staff even commented how it was starting to get less busy.
They definitely had more capacity.

RC000 · 16/05/2021 09:42

Me too @kitchenwarrior I need to stop trying for a bit I think! I'm driving myself a bit mad!

Cindy87 · 16/05/2021 09:44

30 yo friend in East Grinstead booked, I am 38 and booked - I'm in London.

I had the same issue with mine. But as the Indian variant news got worse and worse, he finally got it into his head that it's important not to wait. He finally went and got it on the first try.

Morsehole · 16/05/2021 09:48

Dh and I are booked for vaccines today at a large vaccination centre.
He is 39 and I am a few months older at 40.
Are there any vaccinators here who can tell me if I will be able to get the Pfizer vaccine too? I do not want to have the AZ vaccine unfortunately, but do not want a wasted trip to the vaccine centre.

That's so frustrating. I thought they would refuse to do mine on Thursday too because the admin person made it seem like I had booked a day earlier than permitted. Confused Not sure why it would matter anyway, it's not like it's January and we are jumping the queues ahead of 70 year olds...
