Pharmacies are definitely offering Pfizer. One of our local pharmacies has set up a Pfizer clinic for this weekend at our village hall.

I have no idea how that works with storage etc but they must have overcome that barrier.

pitterpatterrain · 12/05/2021 21:16

Re Pfizer storage - they have likely changed the requirements that were originally problematic: “after consideration of new data submitted by Pfizer, it [FDA] was allowing undiluted frozen vials of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to be transported and stored at conventional temperatures commonly found in pharmaceutical freezers for a period of up to two weeks. This provides an alternative to the preferred storage of undiluted vials of the vaccine in an ultra-low temperature freezer at -80 °C to -60 °C.“

That was the US write up so assume similar for the UK, and the quote was from an article back in early March

Tinkling · 12/05/2021 21:17

I am 33. Jab booked for 20th.

Applesandpears23 · 12/05/2021 21:17

Sept 81. Just booked through the national system. Offered a choice of many pharmacies not the big site near my house. Most appointments were for late next week but I found one for Sunday. Second dose it only offered me 12 weeks later.

lms2017 · 12/05/2021 21:31

33 .... Patiently waiting x

Silversun83 · 12/05/2021 21:53

@usernotfound0000 - that would be useful, thank you! Good luck with it.

FlatStanletta · 12/05/2021 22:07

I am 37 (38 next month) and it just let me book! I also was offered lots of random pharmacies so was wondering about whether that was for AZ rather than Pfizer or Moderna.

I opted for a larger vaccination centre next to a major hospital just in case (although I guess still no guarantee!)

ferretface · 12/05/2021 22:13

Think the national booking service is being opened to 38 and 39 tomorrow which is why it's letting those go through today. Wonder whether the cohort after that will be 35+ or 36 and 37?

FlatStanletta · 12/05/2021 22:19

Yes that’s right @ferretface - apparently it let 40 year olds book the night before the age went down to 40 too.

There it says that people who will be 40 before 1st July are eligible which is perhaps why it let me book since I will be 38 before the 1st July, even though I am still only 37 at the moment.

lurker101 · 12/05/2021 22:31

@year5teacher do you mind saying roughly your region? Desperately hoping for a vaccine for my similarly aged bf soon

letsgetbackto2019 · 13/05/2021 03:04

Booked at a major vaccination centre which was the last in the list, 19 miles from home but I guess that's measured as a straight line as Google maps says 27,

I googled it and found a tweet from them from two days ago saying "Pfizer and Az available this week", and on FB someone registered themselves there and tagged someone else in a picture of a lost vaccination card, first dose was Pfizer and date 12/5/2021, so I thought they must have it today as well!

Newname9 · 13/05/2021 07:15

So I'm a month too young to book! Anyone else wondering how long it will be till they get to 37 year olds? Maybe a couple of days?

RC000 · 13/05/2021 07:28

I'm 36 and husband 37, in Exeter and no luck this morning!

LittleRen · 13/05/2021 08:05

I am pretty certain the 44 and some
43 year olds were able to book from 23rd (on the quiet) but then more
on the 24th... then on the 26th I was able to book for my 43 year old husband, so it was only 2 days between cohorts.
I imagine this will be the same.

Newname9 · 13/05/2021 08:21

Oh that's good to hear - I hope so 🤞

Thesearmsofmine · 13/05/2021 08:25

37 and not able to book yet, hopefully only a few more days to wait.

LittleRen · 13/05/2021 08:29

I’m 36 (jan 85) so also waiting with you!!

HarrietOh · 13/05/2021 08:41

34 (35 next month) and waiting. A friend who is 38 got an invite to book yesterday.

namechanged984630 · 13/05/2021 08:53

My 38 year old bf booked last night and didn't ever get confirmation and loads of sites were available so we were worried we'd done it too soon or he'd get AZ but he's having Pfizer.

InglouriousBasterd · 13/05/2021 09:05

37 London, no luck yet!

RedQueen81 · 13/05/2021 09:30

I'm 39, went in to book and it offers me a lot of pharmacies and some hospitals. I called a few (Boots and a hospital) they confirmed they are currently giving AZ. Pharmacist said he's had 10 calls in half an hour asking the same! It doesn't look like it's filtered to Pfizer & Moderna centers in my case, or not yet anyway... I will keep refreshing and come back later to see if it changes.

usernotfound0000 · 13/05/2021 09:43

That's interesting RedQueen81 I actually tried to cancel mine for today and try to rebook but the option isn't there and it says come back tomorrow. I also can't find a contact number for the vaccination centre, so I will attend this afternoon and see what is available.

LittleRen · 13/05/2021 09:48

The advice is we will only be offered Pfizer or Moderna if available, and if it won't cause delays. It is not guaranteed.

However...

The booking website is being redesigned to allow those under 40 to request a Pfizer or Moderna jab specifically, and vaccines minister Nadhim Zahawi said the NHS was “having to deal with a much more complex set of deployment challenges and doing it brilliantly”.

If no one is seeing this change, it isn't in place yet. The website still says over 40s, so it must not have been updated yet.

Poppytime · 13/05/2021 09:54

Website has said 38 since 7am - hopefully those of us who booked yesterday will get the other vaccines if we want

RedQueen81 · 13/05/2021 09:59

Hi Little Ren, I can see the booking website is saying over 38 now (could it be it's showing differently in different areas? strange as it's supposed to be national).

I'll leave it for a bit and come back tonight and tomorrow, no rush.
