Zoe app estimates case numbers. Whilst useful as an indicator at national level its not so reliable at local levels as its based on the number of people reporting- the fewer reports the less accurate the extrapolation is.

Wakemeuuuup · 16/05/2021 17:28

Does anyone know if positives from people in hotel isolation are added to Hounslow and Hillingdon numbers?

Also, part of Hillingdon is in surge testing as a case of the SA variant was found. This is bound to push the numbers up a bit. Just what local schools need during exam ( assessment) period.

ILookAtTheFloor · 16/05/2021 17:32

I'm not sure if the Zoe weekly figures on the charts have now changed to reflect the different way that they are counting cases (due to 80% of users being vaccinated).

It changed this week and Zoe local graphs are updated weekly. They stopped the daily ages ago due to noise.
I'm not 100% though.

Just listened to an interesting R4 about “ghost” companies - with directors in the Philippines who pay staff employed at British Covid testing centres. Tax scam!

So that’s reassuring.....

Apologies if anyone had already posted this. Hope the links work.

Very interesting thread about all the different assumptions and how they alter an exit wave and also lots of positives about tools we can use to mitigate without the need for anything as drastic as a lockdown.

  • infection rates triple in Bolton teens in a week.

Just came in to post the same link! (I don't think it has been shared in this thread earlier today) It's a very sound model in my opinion. I like the way hi m he updates it very quickly following emerging evidence and is very open about the assumptions within it. Previously with the Kent strain, his model was quite reassuring, predicting very little of an exit wave. But now, if the Indian strain really is 50%+ as contagious, it looks as if we've got quite a rough road ahead. Though he's not factored in booster jabs, which might boost immunity a bit in the autumn. On the other hand, getting vaccine take-up in the under 50s up to 95% looks optimistic to me. Vaccinating teenagers is a bit of a no brainer though, and I don't know why the government hasn't yet made plans for at least the 16-17 year olds (for which Pfizer is already approved)

If they have no UK address then yes, the hotel is the address. Right now though, red list is for people with residency, so most of them will be put to their home address wherever in the country that is.
sirfredfredgeorge · 16/05/2021 18:59

@Mrex that's only if they have an address though right? If they are returning to the UK to stay with relatives / moving back because they don't feel the country is safe etc. then I don't think they would have an existing address to attach to? Question is how many there are of those, vs just returners who had to make visit overseas and then return.

Wakemeuuuup · 16/05/2021 19:03

Thanks. I think this why I have to stop myself worrying about higher rates

JanFebAnyMonth · 16/05/2021 19:16

The WHO is calling for countries with well advanced vaccination programmes to give supplies to poorer countries instead of vaccinating children, isn’t it?

Frazzled2207 · 16/05/2021 19:25

regarding Pfizer for 16-17 I have no doubt it will happen but right now they are going to be needing more pfizers for the under 40s so I imagine there might not be enough supply for quite a while. I know they ordered 60 million more but not sure of the timescales for those. Anyway I'd be surprised if it didn't happen soon after/as soon as the adults are completed. Hopefully most can be sorted ahead of the autumn school term and then onto the 12+.
16+ have been being vaccinated in Bolton this weekend which is good news anyway and more of the same is planned for this week.

lonelyplanet · 16/05/2021 19:49

@JanFebAnyMonth

It's not just teens but 10-14 year old.
TruelyWonder · 16/05/2021 20:02

I saw a report that said most the cases in Bolton were 10 to 22 year olds. A local councillor was being interviewed.

poor kids. At least by immediately shutting down school bubbles etc that ought to be a good way to contain the spread.
Pivotthesofa · 16/05/2021 20:12

This is a really interesting thread. I've been trying to get my head around the actual risk level currently to the under 40s who are unvaccinated, from the new variant. It's much easier to digest information like this.

Yes. I looked up the hotel options at one point and could only see ones for Heathrow within the Heathrow, Hardmonsworth & Sipson MSOA, which has peaked at one stage with about 17 cases in a week, currently on 15. So it isn't that. Mostly it's spread into Southall (shops) from Ruislip and Heston.

TruelyWonder · 16/05/2021 20:24

Sorry it was Bedford

Piggywaspushed · 16/05/2021 20:40

Where did you see that report truely?

Most of those cases have been in DS's school!

four week view of case rates; rank (highest rate =1) based on the latest complete 7 day period; rates for the week in progress and comparison with the same point in the previous week; and vaccination rates for 1st and 2nd dose pus rank (lowest = 1).

North West seems most appropriate starting point.
