Choosing not to get vaccine

InnerDiscomfort · 08/05/2021 20:18

Not looking to start a fight, but interested if you have made the decision not to get the vaccine and have no condition that you know of that would stop you, why not?

Family members abroad have decided not to get the vaccine (Pfizer I think). Vague concerns about it not being safe and/ or tested enough. They both work outside the home and have families. Fairly fit and healthy so unlikely to be seriously affected by COVID, under 50 years of age.

It's not something I agree with but up to them I guess. I'm also unlikely to get ill but had my first vaccine mainly to help stop the spread (and I'd like to go abroad!)

So if you haven't had it, I'm interested in your reasoning if you would care to share.

This is not a normal situation it’s a pandemic
Jesus. And people speak utter BS because they simply don’t understand side effect profiles, public health etc and so forth.

I haven't heard anyone on this thread explaining their decision not to vaccinate against Covid using "utter BS". You seem desperate to show everyone who refuses enforced vaccination has some mad theory on 5G and microchips and denies the existence of Covid, or is a nasty piece of work with no social conscience. I suspect it irritates you that nobody has mentioned these things (I don't even know what this thing about 5G is even about, I only hear about it from the pro-vaccination brigade) and has been fair and reasonable.

We all want to respect your viewpoint but you won't even tolerate ours.

XenoBitch · 09/05/2021 19:57

@electricdreamssheep

Just get the vaccine. 🤷‍♀️
I don't think that is going to convince anyone at all.
MercyBooth · 09/05/2021 20:07

Regular drinkers, regular red meat eaters, maybe even occasional smokers, overweight, sedentary lifestyle, most exercise they do is walk the dog, thinking they live a healthy lifestyle

I know right. Thats why closing the gyms was such a huge help. Hmm

As a direct result of the vaccination?

@NeverForgetYourDreams

DH has a needle phobia. He fainted when having a pin prick on finger once.

He went for the first dose. And he's going for the second.

So proud of him as it's taken so much guts to go

Superstar well done him. It is not an easy phobia to overcome Star

Oh believe me it's a thing. The twat I know shared it in FB and is more than happy to bang on about it to anyone who will listen. I'm not sure exactly what they believe as I couldn't be arsed to listen. They probably believe we've been injected with microchips as well!
@KOKOagainandagain

I'm sorry but most of your post is incorrect. Very few vaccines offer sterilising immunity. The current covid vaccines significantly reduce the chances of both contracting covid and, crucially, being able to transmit covid to others.

So there really is a benefit to society at large when individuals receive the vaccine.

Whether an individual has the vaccine or not is a choice for them but it is not true that choosing not to have the vaccine only impacts the individual concerned.
It depends on whether or not the individual has already contracted coronavirus too. That also reduces transmission and the risk of contracting it again.

@NeverForgetYourDreams well done to your husband! I know how hard it is as I have a needle phobia and it was a huge deal for me to have the vaccine.

@XenoBitch I agree about the comments to posters with a needle phobia, some have been disgusting. I'm sure if they'd been said to anyone with any other fears or issues they would have been challenged but those of us with a needle phobia are apparently fair game.

XenoBitch · 09/05/2021 20:14

I mention 5G to friends as a joke... mainly when they try to start a conversation with "I had my vaccine today". I then say "oh, full 5G now then?" Grin

I think it is something along the lines that bill gates had injected us all with microchips (that's what the vaccine is 🤨) but I don't know what that's got to do with 5G 😂 there's a few on my fb who I have had to hide since this pandemic started....

I'm a little disappointed as if anything my wifi has been absolutely terrible since I had the first
LondonWFuck · 09/05/2021 20:19

@whataballbag my husband has had the jab and his phone has 5G. I haven't had the jab yet and my phone only goes up to 4g. COINCIDENCE???!!!!!! Grin

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/05/2021 20:19

I've done the same @LondonWFuck. I haven't unfriended them as sometimes I have a look just for a laugh!

@whataballbag I've had the same problem. If I have to phone Sky I must remember to mention the vaccine!

You need the profile pic frame thing on FB.. the one that says you have had the vaccine. Then you get 5G Grin

Plus jabs - so far at least - do not look like they will be a requirement for travel

I live just a mile from a border with another country. Normally we would pop across the border for errands, shopping etc pretty much daily. Now I can only go if I have a recent PCR test or if I'm fully vaccinated. So while it's not a requirement, I'd rather be jabbed twice than have a swab up my nose every few days. Jab hurt way less.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/05/2021 20:22

I missed a trick there. I decided not to mention I'd had the vaccine, mainly due to people saying to me 'it wasn't that bad was it?' if they know about my phobia. I should have had the frame just to wind up my mad acquaintance!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/05/2021 20:25

I think they must all be followers of David Icke or someone like that. It just amazes me that people that I used to think were intelligent, relatively normal people are like this (not David Icke obviously!).

I appreciate we all have different opinions about the vaccine but it's one thing to have concerns about a medical procedure but another to think you've been injected with a bloody microchip!

Megan2018 · 09/05/2021 20:27

DH (48 and fat) hasn’t had it yet, as he’s terrified of needles and is pretending that he has some kind of objection to the vaccine until it has been updated for the new variants Hmm
In reality he’s holding out for the nasal spray he thinks is coming.
I have given up arguing - I’ve had my first (AZ).
I’m telling everyone I know how ridiculous he’s being, there’s loads of help for needle phobia but he doesn’t want to be helped. Twat.

Yes.”

I am very sorry to hear that, London. My condolences. I am assuming that your sister’s friend was young (under 40)?

I am strongly in favour of vaccines. My CEV husband has had both, I have had one (can’t wait for my second) and our (grown up children, youngest 18) will be taking theirs as soon as it is offered. Nothing to do with us. They’re autonomous and keen (particularly asthmatic child).
There was an interesting programme on the radio last week (maybe Inside Science) that broke the stats down for young people. Those, under 30, will, if I remember correctly suffer death or serious complications from Covid in 0.008% of those vaccinated whilst 1.001% (I think they said), will die or suffer serious complications as a result of the AZ jab. Comparable stats are not yet available for the other options So, there is clearly a case for young, healthy people to weigh up their options. On balance, though, qualified people still believe that it is in young people’s interests to receive one of the alternative jabs.

In the end, we are so lucky to live in a country where we have options.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 09/05/2021 20:29

Your poor husband @Megan2018. If someone told me that their husband was ridiculous because they had a phobia I tell them to stop being such a bitch and try showing some empathy.

MaxNormal · 09/05/2021 20:30

@KatharinaRosalie are you in the EU or elsewhere?

looptheloopinahulahoop · 09/05/2021 20:31

I know two people who've decided not to have the vaccine. I am not entirely sure why one of them isn't having it, as his partner is and her dad is in a care home, but maybe he doesn't go with her to visit. But he's not had it so far.

The other had covid last year and doesn't feel he needs it.

I'd rather be jabbed twice than have a swab up my nose every few days. Jab hurt way less I agree. I've got much more of a phobia about testing than I have about a tiny scratch on my arm that I don't have to watch happening.
