Hurray!
I am a secondary teacher and just hope it really happens.

He did

No masks at all

FrippEnos · 10/05/2021 17:43

@FourOnTheHill

Those who think we should continue wearing masks in schools should really try teaching in them. I do not believe they are helping otherwise I might support their use in spite of the problems they cause.
You are aware that many of the posters on this thread advocating for masks are teachers?
FrippEnos · 10/05/2021 17:44

@Pastanred

He did

No masks at all

It says no masks for pupils, so teachers can still wear them.
Wakemeuuuup · 10/05/2021 17:46

Hmm. Not sure that's a great idea

noblegiraffe · 10/05/2021 18:01

No, neither do the scientists advising the govt who said that it was important that masks should stay in schools.

No more masks in classrooms - hurray!
Mistressinthetulips · 10/05/2021 18:03

I would assume pupils can still wear them too. But the effectiveness is reduced if it isn't the majority.
It's always interesting viewing what posters say about not needing masks in the light of their comments on other threads about how they haven't been sticking to the rules.

HazeyJaneII · 10/05/2021 18:06

@Pastanred

Cv teachers will be vaccinated so the fact they’re cv is no longer relevant

There have been hardly any uk child deaths at all so even if cv, the risk to those kids is ridiculously low

I realise the risk is low, but children like my ds were deemed to be at enough risk to have shielding recommended for most of the year, he won't be vaccinated until a paediatric vaccine programme is rolled out.

I realise it isn't really on most people's radar, but it's really disheartening to see children like D's referred to so dismissively as we come out of this.

AppleKatie · 10/05/2021 18:06

Yep the mask is dead. I can’t decide what’s worse-
Today- 170 children squeeze past me in a narrow corridor over the course of 20 mins to get to lunch. Most wearing masks but roughly every third child needs to be told to put it on/get it out/pull it up so walks within a foot of me saying ‘sorry’ ‘I forgot’ ‘oh yeah it’s here miss’ ‘have we got homework?’ ‘Did you know it’s well-being week and I’m still cold?’ Etc...

Next week- same but without having to say ‘put your mask on please’ so many times. Perhaps I can hold my breath for longer in an attempt to protect myself?

ThatIsMyPotato · 10/05/2021 18:09

I feel so sorry for the teachers. Can they be prioritised for a jab?

mrshoho · 10/05/2021 18:09

The experiment begins then. Not happy that the government is prepared to use our children and school staff in this way.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 10/05/2021 18:14

So glad DC are homeschooling these days

Toomanymuslins · 10/05/2021 18:14

I sympathise with that hazey but the same applies to deaf children, EAL children.

It’s hard. I hope all goes well for you and your ds.

MrsHamlet · 10/05/2021 18:15

@TimeForLunch

Masks not required in class from next Monday - just been confirmed. Hurrah! Not a moment too soon.
Let's hope we don't have to send any exam groups home then.
AlmostSummer21 · 10/05/2021 18:15

@Onceuponatime1818

Surely this means no more masks in shops, factories, buses, planes, shopping malls etc.
No, apparently - once again, there's a special kind of magic protecting those in schools

(No I'm not a teacher)

IloveJKRowling · 10/05/2021 18:18

And yet one of the India variants (B.1.617.2) is growing fast (in the community, no longer confined to those who've got off a plane) and apparently may be a much bigger threat to younger adults and children - all of whom are unvaccinated.

I'm never going to understand why they're willing to take the risk.

More the experiment continues.

Lets not forget that the group that had the highest increased rate of Covid was teenagers.

squiglet111 · 10/05/2021 18:22

I feel like the only reason teachers weren't added to any priority groups was to appease the Tory voting daily mail readers that hate us. It wouldn't have been difficult to add us to the list as carers etc could.

Onceuponatime1818 · 10/05/2021 18:24

@squiglet111

I think it was because if they vaccinated school
Staff that would be admitting schools are not as safe as they are making out

Sillysop92 · 10/05/2021 18:25

In a way it's good, especially for those with hearing impairments. Teachers, I assume, can continue to wear masks. I tend just to wear a visor in class as I work with hearing impaired children and the clear masks have been problematic. I think I would have gone for a staggered relaxing of the rules and keep masks on in corridors especially at lesson turnover. I also hope that those children who wish to keep their masks on can do so.

Honin · 10/05/2021 18:28

It's fascinating why some still "argue" about people getting infected with mask on, proving mask don't work. Seeing the amount of adults not wearing properly (not just parents but teachers as well!), no wonder why mask don't work!

If you look at it, base on this logic, there are a long list of protection we wouldn't need, i.e vaccination (even Dr. Kapila died after his jabs), or even better - seat belt! God knows how many people died from car crashes each year while having their seat belt on. Does this prove seat belt don't work?

Pastanred · 10/05/2021 18:28

Teachers don’t need adding because those at risk have been vaccinated

Why don’t people get it?

mrshoho · 10/05/2021 18:29

Yes, you are quite right FrippEnos, they've actually had a reckless approach to schools from way back.

It really wouldn't have been difficult in the great scheme to supply teachers and hearing impaired students with clear masks. Certainly since April at least.
