Who’s felt like shit after the vaccine?

I’ve got mine next week and all I keep hearing is how awful people have felt after getting it. I really can’t afford to be ill or take time off at the moment. It’s actually making me want to cancel. Tell me it’s not that bad!

Apart from a dead arm and feeling a tiny bit below par I was fine.

I could have gone to work feeling the way I did (if I wasn't still on furlough).

Maybe book an appointment the day before your day off?

sunsetsand · 04/05/2021 16:33

I was fine as were all my friends and family bar one. She had a headache but is prone to them.

RumHoney · 04/05/2021 16:33

Not too bad for me. AZ on Sunday, yesterday I was a bit lethargic and spent the day on the sofa but that was at least partly because the weather was grim - if I'd had something to do I could probably have done it. Today I'm fine.

I felt completely fine after mine, apart from a slightly sore arm for a couple of days. I know lots of people who have been vaxxed now and only a couple who felt slightly ropey the next day, completely fine after 24 hours. No one I know has had a severe or long lasting reaction.

amylou8 · 04/05/2021 16:44

Had the AZ and really did feel bad for 24 hours afterwards. I know it's not everyone's experience, but I would try and have it when you can take the next day off if you need to. I will be for my second one.

Aprilshowersandhail · 04/05/2021 16:46

I had the AZ last Sunday night.. 24 hours later I felt rubbish. Had an early night and felt fine in the morning..

idontlikealdi · 04/05/2021 16:47

Everyone I know was fine, I felt like shit for 48 hours. Still glad I had it though.

Whereismymojo · 04/05/2021 16:48

AZ, I’m 46, I really did feel rough for three days. It started 24 hours after the jab. It was like a hangover with no cure. If I yawned, my jaw joint ached. Everything was an ache. My face twitched a lot too. I was tired but a big sleep didn’t cure me.

flowerycurtain · 04/05/2021 16:48

I had mine on Sunfay. Astra Zeneca. I'm a healthy 40 year old. Felt rough yesterday but I managed at work. I was in bed with the kids though!!

Absolutely fine today.

hennybeans · 04/05/2021 16:51

I had AZ midday Saturday. By midday Sunday I was full blown fever, chills, aches, head ache. By 10 pm Sunday I felt almost recovered.

Can you schedule your jab in a Friday or Saturday so that you have the next day off? Or failing that, last appt at night so that effects might not kick in until end of workday the following day, then sleep it off overnight?

Mindymomo · 04/05/2021 17:00

I never had any side effects, with AZ, not even a sore arm. Have slept really well since, sleeping through the night when I usually wake up once or twice.

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 04/05/2021 17:00

I had AZ Monday afternoon, spent most of today half asleep but expect to be fine tomorrow.

SwedishK · 04/05/2021 17:00

Had AZ about 10 days ago, felt like I had the flu the day after with high temperature and aching bones, but with plenty of paracetamol and tea I managed to do at least half a day of work from home. Next day I felt better and worked a full day.

Frequentflier · 04/05/2021 17:04

It's really so jarring- complete dissonance- to read about people reluctant to take the vaccine in the UK bcos of a day's worth of side effects, when entire families are being wiped out in India for lack of a vaccine in time. Healthy parents in their 30s are dying leaving children orphaned. I so wish the vaccine could be sent to people who really want it.

No doubt I will be reported or yelled at for this, but I don't really care. Someone has to say it.

Orangebug · 04/05/2021 17:04

I was absolutely fine after AZ except a sore arm. DH felt a bit rubbish for 48 hours though.

Anniissa · 04/05/2021 17:06

I had some flu like symptoms over night and slept poorly. The next day I felt really knackered (probably from lack of proper sleep) but nothing that stopped me from working. For the vast majority of people I know who’ve had various of the vaccines, most have had no or very minor side effects for a day or so. My friend had a serious reaction which needed hospital treatment but she was told it was an extremely rare event and she is fully recovered now and said she would still rather be vaccinated than not.

YellowGlasses · 04/05/2021 17:07

I had Pfizer and was fine (slightly sore/heavy arm). DH had AZ and was unwell for the best part of a week.

santabetterwashhishands · 04/05/2021 17:11

I had the az and just felt nauseous for 48 hours. I probably couldn't have gone into work but didn't feel exactly poorly.

doodlejump1980 · 04/05/2021 17:15

I had AZ yesterday. Feel like I’ve been hit by a bus! Feel really achy, arm is sore, tummy a bit fragile, temp slightly raised. Spent today in bed! Didn’t sleep much last night as heart was racing. BUT, better this than covid!

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 04/05/2021 17:21

Our bosses (and I admit we’re lucky) gave everyone a bonus day off after our jabs. Possibly because they felt pants for 24hrs afterwards so extended everyone the same benefit.

By extension, and since we’re all old farts at 40+, it encouraged us to have a 100% vax rate in the office.

I’ll admit, 3 weeks down the road my arm is still sore, and I had a temperature & the most peculiar fever dreams for 24 hours (everyone had eggs for heads in one of them), but after seeing 1 boss be admitted to ICU last July it’s infinitely preferable to consoling his wife when she’s been asked to sign a DNAR on her 55year old, ex fireman as fit as a flea husband with a 20% chance of survival.

(Boss is fine now & still a moaning bugger lol).

MrsMackesy · 04/05/2021 17:30

Yes, after the Pfizer. Rather that though than a really bad case of Covid-19 and we will definitely be getting our second dose and boosters.

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 04/05/2021 17:37

When I booked mine there were appointments everyday if the week. Could you book yours just before a day off/weekend!

I felt spacey, had a bit of a headache and tired the day after I had mine. Had a nap and felt much better later that day.

teaandcustardcreamsx · 04/05/2021 17:39

I had Pfizer on a Thursday morning. Arm hurt after dinner time and took paracetamol. Had paracetamol again in the morning and apart from the arm pain (and slight acid reflux at night Hmm) was okay. Next day arm pain was the worst but went to work anyway, though probably wasn’t idea (work in nursery so move it around a lot ... that hurt). Was slightly tired and groggy too
