Who’s felt like shit after the vaccine?

I’ve got mine next week and all I keep hearing is how awful people have felt after getting it. I really can’t afford to be ill or take time off at the moment. It’s actually making me want to cancel. Tell me it’s not that bad!

DH & I both had it yesterday tea time (40 & healthy), both fine afterwards until early hours when I was cold & shivery. I had a headache but it went after ibuprofen, had achey hips all day (not helped by sitting down working) & DH was fine until about 3pm when he just couldn't get warm & felt tired & achey.

He's asleep already but I feel fine now.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 04/05/2021 21:21

I have been at work today, had my vaccine yesterday.

I will admit that I woke up in the night feeling like someone had taken a baseball bat to my head and feeling queasy...although playing tennis in the pouring rain yesterday may have contributed to that.

My ex played massively on how ill it made me to avoid having our dd (knob) but honestly other than feeling like I had a massive hangover (I don't drink) I've been ok

Zofloramummy · 04/05/2021 21:22

Has Pfizer on a Saturday, sore arm and dizziness that day. Following day was really tired and felt unwell but able to function. Arm was fine. Well worth a short time of mild discomfort for protection as I am frontline in education and 45+.

diamondpony80 · 04/05/2021 21:46

AZ on Saturday and had a sore arm for about 2 days (felt bruised). Other than that, no side effects.

CoolShoeshine · 04/05/2021 22:10

Just felt really knackered and had a deep nap the following day. Was glad that i wasn’t in work as ploughing through the tiredness would have made me feel rough. Felt great after lots of sleeping.

notangelinajolie · 05/05/2021 00:19

Nope, for me nothing whatsoever apart from a sore arm.

DH started to feel poorly about 6 hours after his jab. And then had a very fast heart rate during the night - it proper scared the hell out of him. He was fine the next morning. It would be an understatement to say he is terrified of having his second jab. He will have it though.

Both of us had Astra Zeneca.

mnaab · 05/05/2021 00:24

felt a bit fluey the next day but carried on working etc. DH felt a tiny bit off but was fine after some paracetamol. DMIL who is elderly and disabled was absolutely fine after both doses

ladymuck111 · 05/05/2021 07:07

Had AZ yesterday. Woke on the night around 2am feeling sick. Haven't slept much since so far just have awful nausea.

nolongersurprised · 05/05/2021 07:44

I had Pfizer and 24 hours afterwards had mild diarrhoea and sore arm and was tired. Not unwell enough to have to stop and rest though. After 48 hours I had some mild sweats which was weird because I felt completely well while they were occurring. I worked though them and barely noticed them really

shumway · 05/05/2021 09:55

I had AZ on saturday morning and was feeling all smug because I felt totally fine all day saturday. Woke up on sunday with a sore throat, sore throat went and then I felt achey all over especially my legs and felt weak and rough, by the evening I had a really bad headache and felt a bit hot. Monday my head was still twingey. Now my arm is itchy.

Mandalay246 · 05/05/2021 11:21

I had Pfizer on Monday morning and other than a sore arm - no worse than after a 'flu jab - I've been fine, and so have my colleagues (we all had Pfizer - not in the UK).

FakeColinCaterpillar · 05/05/2021 11:24

It was way better than covid.

Hollanda40 · 05/05/2021 11:50

Pfizer here. Dead arm and flu symptoms, felt rough since yesterday but after a lot of sleep feel better. The worst thing was shortness of breath and heart racing. I'm still a little tired, but fine. Rather that than Covid.

Got to lunchtime today and tiredness hit me. I've just woken up from a 3 hour sleep and feel like I've been hit by a bus
TheSaucepanMan · 05/05/2021 18:52

I had Moderna on Monday, I had awful backache but nothing else, today I've completely lost my appetite which I'm thinking is a bonus, I was considering wiring my jaw to stop me eating rubbish. Long may it last!

SquashMinusIsShit · 05/05/2021 19:01

Anyone who had a sore arm with AZ how long did it last? I only had mine Monday afternoon & it feels worse today than afterwards/yesterday. It feels bruised but also hurts when I lift it above shoulder height or side to side

pipsqueakbollock · 06/05/2021 09:45

Pfizer #1
8 hours later ... Felt cold. Went to bed. Woke up no probs. Arm less sore than annual flu jab.

Pfizer #2
8 hours later.... Felt cold. Went to bed. Awake most of last night. Ache, poss mild fever, headache, nausea. Chest pain. Arm more sore than last time but less than flu jab (I think this is due to the competence of the jabber!)

I had non tested Covid Apr 2020 and I feel exactly as I did then even down to the random stabbing pain at the back of my rib cage. Utterly exhausted and lethargic. Dry throat. Headache. Nausea but I can eat. Feel like someone is sitting on my (asthmatic!) chest.

Happy to wallow in my bed but hope it's not for 10 days as it was in Apr 2020

pipsqueakbollock · 06/05/2021 09:46

@SquashMinusIsShit dunno about AZ but annual flu jab arm is only usually 2-3 days, 4 at a push in my 10 year experience.

Thanks. Mine is definitely better today (day 3) than yesterday so hopefully by tomorrow it'll be ok Smile

Can I remind everyone that side effects from the vaccines can be reported online via the Yellow Card scheme. As the vaccines are new, it seems a good idea to report.

Firecarrier · 06/05/2021 11:18

@MrsMackesy

Can I remind everyone that side effects from the vaccines can be reported online via the Yellow Card scheme. As the vaccines are new, it seems a good idea to report.
I know of several people who have had quite severe reactions.

1.woman late 50s - mild stroke after first jab.
2.man late 50s very bad rash down back of legs
3.nephew, aged 21 extreme shakes
4.40 year old nurse, like an aged shakey old woman now been told she may not work again.

None of these apart from the nurse have reported or intend on reporting anything. The nurse was told she must have had a reaction to the Aluminium?!

MrsMackesy · 06/05/2021 11:24

In my experience, most people do not know about the Yellow Card scheme. Serious side effects are thankfully extremely rare and the higher risk for the vast majority of people comes from Covid-19.

MrsMackesy · 06/05/2021 11:35

With the people pp mentions concerningly, it is impossible to know if these were directly caused by the vaccine as health events happen to people all day, every day, vaccine or not.

Pinkpaisley · 07/05/2021 15:40

There are certain reactions that are considered normal. There is a schism about how to best present the vaccine. Some advocate focusing on how it is safe and effective. Some advocate talking about how a good percentage of people do have what count as mild side effects. Even mine, being utterly exhausted for several days, counts as a mild side effect and I am ok with that. I work for an employer that happens to have several vaccine experts on staff so we were advised not to schedule anything important for the days after our vaccines in case we needed to call in sick. They said it doesn’t happen to most, but those it hits need to take the time. No big deal. I personally find this pragmatic approach much more appealing and think it would go further towards vaccine uptake to be very forthcoming.

Blueskytoday06 · 08/05/2021 22:19

Oh crickey - sorry to say that after initially reporting nothing more than a sore arm, today I feel like I've been run over! I've not moved from the sofa unless it was to go to the toilet with an upset tummy, my bones have ached awfully and truly have felt horrendous. Obvs I know that it's better than getting COVID but genuinely haven't been this ill for years. Managed to just crawl to bed - hoping to feel better by the morning.
