As of Friday 30th April

34.3m first jabs
14.9m second jabs

have been given in the UK. This means that 65% of all adults have some level of protection and 28% are fully vaccinated.

Additionally evidence is currently suggesting that the vaccines are effective against the Brazilian and Indian variants 🥳

🥳 Even if a little lower than we like. Still jabs in arms and potentially less deaths or illness.

Fingers crossed Hugo is rightSmile

Splendid 🥳

I will join you in the overall figures on Thursday then. My first dose of AZ on Wednesday. Long awaited as I am 46.

Wakemeuuuup · 10/05/2021 16:42

I was included yesterday's figures for 2nd doses. I was unexpectedly called for my 2nd az jab at 7 1/2 weeks as the had spare capacity.

Most of the 2nd jabs yesterday must have been from.my centre, it was the busiest place I've been in about 18 months Smile

CaveMum · 10/05/2021 16:51

@TruelyWonder snap! I’ve got my first dose on Wednesday too - it’s my 40th tomorrow!

Dementedswan · 10/05/2021 17:00

"Everybody lives, Rose! Just this once — everybody lives!"

Now we need a day like this for the whole of the United Kingdom.

Dementedswan · 10/05/2021 17:35

@Wakemeuuuup can I ask how you are after your second az jab?

Wakemeuuuup · 10/05/2021 17:43

@Dementedswan I feel much better than after the 1st jab. I've been a bit fluey but paracetamol is keeping the symptoms at bay. No headache so far which is a relief. I just hope 7 1/2 weeks is long enough for antibodies to have developed

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/05/2021 17:45

Wednesday, huh. Thursday gives you a long weekend if you need to take the day after it off....

@Wakemeuuuup as thats good, long may it continue! I was bad after my first, felt like I'd been hit by a bus and still having issues with tinnitus and random sharp pains in my head, arm and ears Confused I'm hoping the second one resets me Grin

Oh I'm going to milk it, dh can run around after the dc for a change WinkGrin
TruelyWonder · 10/05/2021 17:53

My husband had his second jab at 8 weeks. A few days can't make much difference. No side effects or even a jab mark with his second. If he hadn't got a new sticker I would have not believed he went to get it.

Any the latest data from Brazil is showing how wonderfully AZ and Pfizer are doing. So more good news❤

My London borough has not reported a single death since March. Which is obviously brilliant Smile

Plus Whitty was at the briefing talking variants. I love a bit of Whitty at a briefing ❤😂

Also I'm sure I read somewhere that az is effective against the India variant Smile

Wakemeuuuup · 10/05/2021 18:00

@Dementedswan That sounds awful, I had a headache for weeks after the first. I hope you're OK with the 2nd

Bordois · 10/05/2021 18:03

If AZ is effective against all known variants does it follow that other vaccines using the same "technology" should also have the same or similar levels of effectiveness?

OP posts:
TruelyWonder · 10/05/2021 18:05

All the vaccines are proven or thought to be effective against all know variants. Even the new ones.

Basically the way it works is if one works for some reason I can't remember the others will work to some extent too
