As of Friday 30th April

34.3m first jabs
14.9m second jabs

have been given in the UK. This means that 65% of all adults have some level of protection and 28% are fully vaccinated.

Additionally evidence is currently suggesting that the vaccines are effective against the Brazilian and Indian variants 🥳

Apologies. Its working fine now

BruceAndNosh · 23/05/2021 16:13

Any idea why Wales figures are overall quite a bit better than rest of UK?

don't know for sure but there's no indication that they have been given more vaccine per head of population than other parts of the UK. However they have been very swift in giving it out, possibly due to less complicated distribution lines? Also 2nd doses have been given out generally with less of a gap. Both my parents got their 2nd pfizer after 5 weeks. Is worth noting that at the very beginning wales were pretty slow - they spent ages vaccinating healthcare workers and care homes before moving on to the 75+ and they came under quite a bit of criticism back then.

Wales are doing great aren't they. I remember in the beginning when they were looking like struggling. Well they sure swung that around Grin

BruceAndNosh · 23/05/2021 19:41

UK has got so many things wrong, but their vaccination program in all regions is something to be proud of

I recall that the Welsh government were holding some doses back to begin with. The opposition kicked off about it, put a rocket under their arses and since then every dose delivered has been sent straight out.

This story won’t mean anything to most of you (possibly all of you!) but it made me smile, just wish I could rebook my second jab in the hope of getting it done here. I did a stable tour here in 2013, saw the wonderful late Sir Henry and of course the mighty Frankel 😍

Imfedupwithallofthis · 25/05/2021 15:28

Ganesh Ranganathan@ganeshran

The number of new doses administered yesterday is 458,310

England administered 375K compared to 296K last week (FD: 95K, SD: 279K)

PuzzledObserver · 25/05/2021 16:41

So, national takeup figures are:

1st dose: 72.5%
2nd dose: 42.1%

And in my local area it's:

1st dose: 67.5% (below national figure)
2nd dose: 42.6% (slightly above national figure)

We certainly seemed to be going great guns early on. I speculate this is because of older-than-average demographic. Which would make sense - I can think of half a dozen retirement living/care complexes within the area. A lot of the housing would not be accessible to first time buyers and young families.

TruelyStruttingHotpants · 25/05/2021 19:01

4,063,071 jabs given in the last 7 days🥳

🥳🥳🥳 4 million doses in 7 days! 🥳🥳🥳
