As of Friday 30th April

34.3m first jabs
14.9m second jabs

have been given in the UK. This means that 65% of all adults have some level of protection and 28% are fully vaccinated.

Additionally evidence is currently suggesting that the vaccines are effective against the Brazilian and Indian variants 🥳

Always lower on a Monday.
+18,894 vs last week.
Good job, Hugo!

More than 1 million first doses in England in the past week ... for the first time since April 3.

InMySpareTime · 18/05/2021 15:19

I'm booked in for my second on Friday 💉, just less than 10 weeks after the first.
I hope I get a sticker this time.

CaveMum · 18/05/2021 18:47

Saw an interesting piece on the US vaccination programme, they “only” have an 80% average uptake so that explains why they’re already onto 16+, and even talking about 12-15 year olds in some places.

123banana · 18/05/2021 22:30

@Paulina23 I was texted a link by my GP to book and had the vaccine at a local mass GP hub. When booking through the link I wasn’t given an option to book my second dose.

Does anyone know the timescales for the Pfizer jab - can doses be done 11-12 weeks apart like the AstraZeneca or with Pfizer do you need the second dose sooner?

InMySpareTime · 19/05/2021 06:39

I got a second text from my GP 9 weeks after the first (but I had AZ)

Pfizer has been proven to be fine if not better with a longer gap like AZ. I think the general scientific consensus is a gap of 8 to 12 week is desirable for maximum effect. Though some countries are still using a shorter gap. The main protection from Pfizer is after 4 weeks so all good either way.

The latest study also shows AZ has the same number of antibodies as Pfizer after 4 weeks too in most people.

My husband got a text from doctor to have his first. Then another text to have his second at 8 weeks.

Originally it predicted I would have my first jab in September not this month Grin

5th September - marvellous!
(And I have a break booked with DH and my mum and dad from 6th to 10th. That'll do me!😃)

In England, people aged 34 and over are being invited to book their first dose online

People aged 30 and over in Scotland are now being invited to get their vaccine, although in some parts of Glasgow, appointments are being made available to 18-39 year olds

The Welsh government is offering vaccines to everyone aged 18 and over - more information is on the Public Health Wales website

DarceyDashwood · 20/05/2021 11:14

I’ve been on various threads trying to work out if it is best to get your jab early if you can eg 9 weeks or to wait until 12 weeks for maximum effect (AZ). I’m a bit torn/confused as to which is of the most benefit/protection. Fully vaccinated sooner or waiting until 12 weeks. Any guidance would be much appreciated!

Kyph · 20/05/2021 11:33

@DarceyDashwood All the results I have seen show that the 12 week gap with AZ ultimately gives better immunity.
If you are over 50 the advice is to have a shorter gap in case you catch the Indian varient.

I imagine part of the reasoning is that they plan to give boosters to the over 50s later this year which would further increase immunity whereas under 50s may not get a booster?

DarceyDashwood · 20/05/2021 11:36

@Kyph thank you for this. I’m early 40s with no underlying conditions so potentially no booster for me! I hadn’t considered the booster element. Perhaps I’d be better waiting until nearer the 12 weeks in that case - as keen as I am to be fully vaccinated. Thank you for replying.

Bordois · 20/05/2021 14:14

Some good numbers - first doses look to be on the rise again too 🥳
