As of Friday 30th April

34.3m first jabs
14.9m second jabs

have been given in the UK. This means that 65% of all adults have some level of protection and 28% are fully vaccinated.

Additionally evidence is currently suggesting that the vaccines are effective against the Brazilian and Indian variants 🥳

Reading on Hugo's replies, 35+ can book now.

Kyph · 17/05/2021 15:08

News this morning said they expected to invite 35 + this week.
I'm counting down to 25 for my DS to get his.

mateysmum · 17/05/2021 15:33

Just took DH for his 2nd and asked if I could have mine even though it was only 8 weeks since the first. The man from the vaccine centre he said YES And I got a sticker!

buttery81 · 17/05/2021 16:30

Congratulations @mateysmum!

Is anyone else looking forward to getting to the next row on the excellent gov.uk squares diagram, for 1st and 2nd doses?

My calculations show that there are 526,609 jabs per square. Which means for first doses, we need another 157,983 jabs to colour in one more square and hit 70%.

For 2nd doses we need another 776,971 jabs to colour in two more squares and hit 40%!

TruelyWonder · 17/05/2021 18:44

Yep. I want that 70% and that 40% now. 70% isn't yo much to ask for tomorrow 🙏

Are there any other interesting landmarks we have to look forwards too?

Franklin12 · 17/05/2021 18:52

I know it’s only a small thing but had my second dose yesterday. Feeling a little under the weather but nothing I cannot cope with.

Wish they would get the Indian variant under control and that more people there will have the vaccine. Rather weary of people refusing the vaccine. It spoils it for the rest of us.

MrTumblesSpottyHag · 17/05/2021 19:03

I've just booked DH in for Friday, he's buzzing! He's 35 and has been checking twice a day for the last 2 weeks just in case. I'm double jabbed as I'm a carer and he's been desperate to get his booked. 🥳🥳🥳

That is not a small thing. You got your second dose and are in todays numbers. Moment of fame 🥳🥳🥳

People will do what people will do. We have to just let them live with any consequences. So long as they know the facts and the risks. Overall percentages are still looking good take up wise. I am in one of the 10 lowest take up places. So get moments of worry but then remember that some people are nervous and will probably come to the party a bit lateSmile

TruelyWonder · 17/05/2021 19:14

So they are definitely down to 35 year olds now then?

DH couldn't book this morning but I could for him this evening so yes it seems so in my area at least.

I’m in London, 36 years old and got my first dose of Pfizer last Friday.

yellowspanner · 17/05/2021 22:28

Yes, I am checking the blue squares all the time. I am hoping for 70%

@FlattestWhite

It is pretty amazing.

And yet, given the urgency to get more people done, especially in areas of concern/low uptake, I wonder what the limiting factor is to not going faster?

supply of AZ, supply of Pfizer, supply of Moderna, places to use as vaccination centres, number of vaccinators, admin to make sure people are getting the right vaccine, hours in the day, people not wanting to book in the areas that have spaces, etc.?

I have read that there are stockpiled vaccines, and lots of vaccinators and volunteers who can't get shifts; I have heard that there are empty sites and no queues in places. So it sounds like it might be more that it is difficult to get the resources to the places where they are needed - what can be done to increase the options there, convince people to come, increase the hours, increase numbers of sites??

Or is it actually supply issues after all

I'm not sure about the situation nationally but my nearest hub had stalled because they'd more or less run out of people to vaccinate in the current age group and hadn't been given permission to go down to the next one yet. Staff were being encouraged to add as many people as possible to the 'reserve list' (who were then sent a link to the normal booking form to choose appointments) but obviously that was still a lot slower than a mass general invitation would have been. Hopefully they've sped up again now that the gov have announced the next age category.

Re closing hubs, I wonder if they have fewer volunteers to staff them now that people are being called back to the office and there's more to do in our free time?

psychomath · 18/05/2021 07:30

Sorry if it's already been asked but is there anywhere you can see data on uptake in your area? Just wondering as a pp mentioned being in one of the areas with the most refusers, and now I'm interested to see what mine is like!

Which hospital? Did you book online and did you have a second dose booking offered 8-12 weeks later (an usually the Pfizer will only need 4 weeks)?

That’s what I got for St Thomas Hospital for next week, I hope it’s not the AZ one that they give using the Indian variant as an excuse.

55larry · 18/05/2021 10:18

Dd has got her second vaccine this week -AZ - at 8 weeks. She is only 29 but cv. Dh, ds 1 and I are all fully vaccinated.

The only ac of mine who isn’t vaccinated yet is my Ds who has been in Thailand since March 2020 who is coming home at the end of June. I am not quite how he will get a vaccine as I am not sure if he has a gp at the moment but he will have the vaccine as he can arrange it.
