As of Friday 30th April

34.3m first jabs
14.9m second jabs

have been given in the UK. This means that 65% of all adults have some level of protection and 28% are fully vaccinated.

Additionally evidence is currently suggesting that the vaccines are effective against the Brazilian and Indian variants 🥳

@Dementedswan

I'm amazed at the speed and efficiency of the vaccine rollout. Well done to everyone involved 👏
Me too. Where I went they were doing 15 every 10 minutes. So each 10 minute appointment had 15 people booked in.
FlattestWhite · 14/05/2021 19:46

It is pretty amazing.

And yet, given the urgency to get more people done, especially in areas of concern/low uptake, I wonder what the limiting factor is to not going faster?

supply of AZ, supply of Pfizer, supply of Moderna, places to use as vaccination centres, number of vaccinators, admin to make sure people are getting the right vaccine, hours in the day, people not wanting to book in the areas that have spaces, etc.?

I have read that there are stockpiled vaccines, and lots of vaccinators and volunteers who can't get shifts; I have heard that there are empty sites and no queues in places. So it sounds like it might be more that it is difficult to get the resources to the places where they are needed - what can be done to increase the options there, convince people to come, increase the hours, increase numbers of sites??

Or is it actually supply issues after all

They are closing down one of our local places for vaccinations in two weeks. Pushing it back to GP's. I wonder what is going on?

buttery81 · 15/05/2021 08:58

It’s super Saturday - anyone looking forward to some big vaccination numbers later today? Grin

BruceAndNosh · 15/05/2021 10:28

I was entering patient data of vaccines given yesterday...
You get a pile all together from one vaccinator and I noticed her times "dose given"
One every 3 minutes. (then obviously a gap every now and then as she goes for a new vial)
EVERY 3 MINUTES!

Our local major hub (a racecourse) was shut down about 2 weeks ago - don’t know if they have any plans to reopen it.

Will we get over 20 million 2nd doses on the gov.uk website tomorrow? I think we will!

Also, we only need just over 11 million more 1st doses to hit 47.4 million (90% of the total UK adult population).

To get 95% of the adult population (which would be phenomenal take up) we’ll need to administer a total of 50,014,807 1st doses.

TruelyWonder · 15/05/2021 12:53

Wow buttery81 those figures are amazing and we are not far off are we. Another big push and we are thereStar

531,484 new vaccinations in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 yesterday (185,059 1st doses, 346,425 2nd doses)

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 & NI later, no 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 numbers on a Saturday

The Bolton vaccine team have basically said, come and queue up, we will find a reason to vaccinate you. The mobile unit has had 4000 vaccines today to administer.

TruelyWonder · 15/05/2021 16:14

😂

Brilliant numbers and a great percentage ❤

Yes!

Dr Helen Wall, who is leading the vaccination effort in Bolton, said the target for Saturday was to distribute 4,000 jabs.

She said 10,000 people eligible for jabs had yet to be vaccinated in the BL4 and BL5 postcode areas, with issues like not having phone credit to make a booking often cited as a reason for putting off taking the vaccine.

Asked what would happen if a younger person turned up for a jab, Dr Wall said vaccinators were following the guidance but would "look for reasons to vaccinate people, not reasons not to within those criteria of eligibility".

Bordois · 15/05/2021 16:20

And cases are still fairly flat across the UK with a small drop in England

Number of people in hospital is now below 1000 for the first time since mid September.

TruelyWonder · 15/05/2021 17:42

Yes the figures all look very wonderful ❤

I have been looking in the areas of concern and they appear on the surface to have pretty low numbers in hospital and deaths still. I think it is just wait and see what happens with that in the next couple of weeks. Let Whitty and co do their observations and maths🤷‍♀️

buttery81 · 16/05/2021 09:51

Number of people in hospital is now below 1000 for the first time since mid September.

Such good news!

And that’s encouraging @TruelyWonder - let’s hope it stays that way.

Can we hit 20 million 2nd doses today?

buttery81 · 16/05/2021 09:55

When you consider that there were 40,000 people in hospital at the peak, the fact that figure is now down to 991 is very positive.

lunar1 · 16/05/2021 13:51

559,726 new vaccinations in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 yesterday (205,962 1st doses, 353,764 2nd doses) - other nations reporting later

Good to see 1st doses going up a bit.

thatgingergirl · 16/05/2021 14:02

lunar1 - yes, really encouraging! Looking forward to seeing the UK total!

mateysmum · 16/05/2021 16:17

Interesting to see that this is the first time we have had 4 consecutive days at over 600k per day. In the mid March peak there were a couple of spectacular days but only 3 days over 600k. It's just that now the doses are split whereas in March it was pretty much all first doses.
