As of Friday 30th April

34.3m first jabs
14.9m second jabs

have been given in the UK. This means that 65% of all adults have some level of protection and 28% are fully vaccinated.

Additionally evidence is currently suggesting that the vaccines are effective against the Brazilian and Indian variants 🥳

@Wakemeuuuup not too bad! I didn't have the best nights sleep with weird dreams and sweats. Muscles aching and a headache. So I went back to bed for a nap after getting dc to school. Had a warm bath and seem better now. Just a low level headache and sore arm.

Wakemeuuuup · 13/05/2021 13:34

@Dementedswan That's good to hear. Keep taking paracetamol for a few days, no need to put up with the symptoms if you don't need to.

lunar1 · 13/05/2021 14:29

According to Hugo this is the 8th biggest vaccine day so far!

I don't know what to do with myself now I've been double jabbed. That's been a focus since Feb 🤣 now what?

Behave yourself for the next week or two. So it is fully working?🤓😂

Serious I am very happy for you. One less thing to worry or stress about ❤

You are all sorted for indoor eating etc to open up and have lots of protection in case the India variant starts being to much of a bugger. Lets hope we can get everyone else that wants it jabbed quickly now💉

Dementedswan · 13/05/2021 18:16

Ah don't worry! I've no intention of going out socialising for a while. Not until we get more data on variants.

Next date to look out for is 4 weeks post jab I guess. Past the clot risk, funnily enough now I've been jabbed I'm not overly worried but will certainly be aware of every twinge .

Only my sister and her dh left to be done out of our family, apart from dc. But they are young.

Thank you for all your support through this, what a lovely thread Smile

GypsyWanderer · 13/05/2021 18:34

Can I join please? I’m pleased to read a non ‘doom and gloom’ thread. Me and my husband both have our vaccines tomorrow and I’m really anxious about it. I have Anxiety disorder and health anxiety specifically so this is a major trigger for me. It’s the uncertainty of knowing how we will both handle the after effects I guess. I already feel relief writing this though to be honest.

Dementedswan · 13/05/2021 18:44

Hi @GypsyWanderer do you know which jab you are having?

I too suffer from anxiety and depression. I'm on meds to try and control it but the covid and vaccination caused me so much stress and these lovely people helped.

Wear your biggest pants Wink I did and got through it Grin

lunar1 · 13/05/2021 18:45

@GypsyWanderer, I've been volunteering in a vaccine centre since the start. At least half the people who come are nervous and have worries so you aren't alone by a long way. I have health anxiety and I was terrified despite watching 100's of people come and go every day!

This is our right of passage that we can bore future generations with our vaccine story.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/05/2021 18:52

Well, there is a chance you may get a headache and feel tired for a day or so: that's a one-in-ten. Think "hangover", and drink lots of water and take paracetamol, seems to be the best way to deal with it!

Oh, and if it makes you itch (there's a one-in-a-hundred chance of that, apparently) try not to scratch.

It's very rare indeed for any results to last for more than about a week, as far as I can make out.

Seriously, compared to getting the disease, the side-effects of the vaccine seem to be a doddle for everyone but one person in a million, which is such a small number that it's not a risk I tend to pay attention to in ordinary life. More likely to be struck by lightning!

Dementedswan · 13/05/2021 19:02

I've had both Az, Dh has had both Pfizer. I had sore arm, muscle pain, headaches with first, second jab I had yesterday and so far same side effects but not as bad. Dh had sore arm, tiredness and a little headache with Pfizer, same with second.

Nothing that stopped him from working, and I just rested, watched rubbish and read for a few days.

Most people I know have had similar or nothing.

Hi and thanks for the welcome. I finished CBT a few weeks back and had been doing so well but then last week my husband was hit by a car while cycling to work (he’s fine thankfully!) which triggered my anxiety and now this vaccine tomorrow is making me feel worse.

But I have been so anxious about covid for over a year anyway so I know this is the right thing to do. No idea what vaccine I’m having. I turn 39 next week so I assume it won’t be the AZ one?

Thank you I appreciate that. I tend to avoid vaccines and doctors and even paracetamol Grin so this feels like a big deal. My husband having it at the same time is on one hand great because I won’t be alone but also means I’m worried about him too!

Dementedswan · 13/05/2021 19:29

Just think of all that lovely protection

Dementedswan · 13/05/2021 19:33

My ds and bil getting jabbed tomorrow so they will be in Fridays numbers. That's all the adults in our family done. Most double jabbed and they have their first 🥳🥳🥳

nordica · 13/05/2021 20:25

Had my Moderna this morning so I'll be in tomorrow's numbers, yay! Very busy at the vaccination centre although the volunteer I spoke to said it wasn't even nearly as busy as it gets sometimes. Got my sticker!

Expecting the famously painful "Moderna arm" to appear in the next few days... Grin

TruelyWonder · 13/05/2021 20:39

First real-world data out of Italy shows out of 37,000 people vaccinated with their 1st dose of AstraZeneca:

99% effective against severe disease/hospitalization

100% effective against COVID-related death

95% effective against ALL infections
