Tinnitus

I’ve just read (on the daily Mail online (don’t judge me)), that the vaccine has caused tinnitus in some people. Has anyone experienced this? Is it any particular one of the vaccines?

My tinnitus started right.that at the start of the pandemic- some people who've had Covid have been left with it. There's lots of reasons people get it tbh.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/04/2021 08:34

I have had mild tinnitus since DH had probable covid early on. I wasn’t unwell but then had tinnitus, could be a coincidence as we can’t be sure that was what he had. When I read that Covid can cause tinnitus I did wonder though.

pistachioicecream · 27/04/2021 16:24

Hadn't heard about a vaccine link before but my DH has been left with tinnitus after having Covid last summer.

He's had various scans and tests but they've said there's nothing they can do.

Eyjafjallajokulldottir · 27/04/2021 16:29

Really? I've had what I assume is tinnitus since having my second jab. Started about 3 days after. Like white noise in my ear constantly.

Lanique · 27/04/2021 16:59

Yes I had it for a few days post-AZ. I suffer from it mildly anyway, and always when I have a virus. So it didn't surprise me when it worsened. It's back to normal levels now.

Lanique · 27/04/2021 17:03

My tinnitus started four years ago as a result of a very strange virus that went on for weeks and ended up giving me pneumonia. Since the CV pandemic I've wondered whether it was a kind of covid-related bug. I work in an environment in which there is potential for diseases to come in from all over the world.

ALevelhelp · 27/04/2021 17:05

Oddly I started getting tinnitus just over a year ago - hadn't thought that it may have started with Covid!

blackwych · 27/04/2021 17:50

I have had really bad tinnitus for about four weeks now. I have wondered if it is down to the vaccine or covid itself. Had first jab about a month before the tinnitus started, which seems like too long a gap to me. I have wondered if I had covid about a year ago. Have had shingles more recently.

FreyaFolkvangr · 27/04/2021 17:52

It can be caused by stress and anxiety so it would be really hard to say it's the actual vaccine that's caused it. It's more likely the fear we've been living with as a society for the last year. That has a huge impact on the nervous system.

Arcadia · 27/04/2021 18:10

My cousin says she has suddenly developed it four days after AZ Sad

Arcadia · 27/04/2021 18:11

She has hardly told anyone as she hasn't wanted to put other people off having their jabs, she only told me after I'd had mine (which was a different vaccine anyway)

ThornAmongstRoses · 27/04/2021 19:23

I have horrendous tinnitus. I first saw my GP about it last October but that was months before my first jab.

My GP did make some noises then that some people who have had Covid (I hadn’t had it to my knowledge) are left with tinnitus as a long term side effect.

I had my first jab four months later (Feb this year) and the tinnitus got so much worse.

I’ve got an appointment with ENT this weekend and I look forward to hearing what they have to say.

HSHorror · 27/04/2021 19:44

I got pulsative tinnitus after covid.
But put some olive oil drops in ear and it helped.

It can also be b12 i think.
So if you are veggie/vegan

HSHorror · 27/04/2021 19:46

Or iron anaemia - which covid can cause.
And probably a vax can cause anaemia too as it is used making antibodies

ThornAmongstRoses · 27/04/2021 21:02

I’ve been really anaemia for the last 10 months and despite taking three iron tablets a day my levels are still really low.

When I first spoke to the GP about my tinnitus he did say that anaemia can be related to it too.

GoBrookeYourself · 28/04/2021 07:35

Ah so it seems it could be after covid and/or the jab. I wonder what the percentage is? For those who had it, has it got any better/worse?

ThornAmongstRoses · 28/04/2021 09:23

So, so, so much worse.

MrsMeg1 · 28/04/2021 10:02

I suffer with this and am also worried about the effects of the vaccine which I'll be offered soon. I'm on a tinnitus support forum and have noticed numerous new members reporting it after the vaccines (mainly mention Moderna and Pfizer but also some AZ)for some time now. My tinnitus has been hell and only recently getting some relief so don't want to jepordise things. Saying that, I know covid can also cause tinnitus....

Arafina · 28/04/2021 11:01

I've signed up just to comment on this as I also have had constant tinnitus since having covid in January, I've had it intermittently before when I've had sinus problems but never enough to bother me, covid took it to another level as well as dizziness, it's slowly improving but I've put off getting the vaccine as I'm terrified of it getting worse

10storeylovesong · 28/04/2021 12:13

My best friends mum has suffered with tinnitus since covid in December. It was pretty much her only symptom.

lilithxx16 · 28/04/2021 12:31

Yes, woke up with it morning after I had AZ jab along with typical fluey symptoms. Loud buzzing in my left ear. I've had mild tinnitus before. It took about 2 weeks to disappear. I think it's caused by inflammatory response. If anyone else has experienced this, I would like to know what happened after your 2nd jab.

GoBrookeYourself · 28/04/2021 13:01

I’m so sorry to all experiencing this, it must be so hard to deal with mentally too. I hope it subsides for you soon.

I’ve had tinnitus for months now. Pre vaccine. I’ve wondered if I had Covid at the start of the pandemic.

Gemma77 · 03/05/2021 07:54

I had headaches and fatigue symptoms a year ago and started to experience tinnitus. There wasn't mass testing then and I didn't have the three main symptoms of covid but my GP sent me for a test because they were starting to suspect that ear ringing might be a symptom of covid.

Annoying I never got my test results because they got lost! Clearly testing is much better now!

The tinnitus took a long time to stop... probably 8 months.

Anyway - had my AZ vaccines at week and had 36 hours feeling like I had flu. And now the ear ringing is back! Hopefully it will stop sooner this time. But does make me wonder if it is covid related.

Don't get me wrong - still very happy to have had my vaccine and will be getting my second one in July.

grenadines · 03/05/2021 08:24

My dh has had tinnitus since December 2019 which was the time some members of the family had a viral illness with a bad cough. I still wonder if covid could have been circulating then.
He had the az vaccine recently and it did not affect the tinnitus. It seems awful there is no cure for tinnitus.
