Dh (Oct 78) had a text yesterday morning, looked at 2pm and got a slot at 2:30pm. So text to jab within four hours. AZ, he's suffering something awful now though.

3asAbird · 27/04/2021 10:03

I have signed up for vaccines trial although not sure i be what valneva is looking for.
I'm white never had covid and 41 this year.
I wonder if valneva is maybe going be used on under 40s due to az clotting issues.
Definitely can't book me.
So maybe another week.
Just annoying see younger people locally called by their gps.

TheMerrickBoy · 27/04/2021 10:04

Got all excited at the news but all the centres I can book in are at least 25 miles away....

nordica · 27/04/2021 10:08

Having to travel further away may be what happens going forward, just heard my local GP-led hub that was a 10 minute walk away is closing after this week.

IceandIndigo · 27/04/2021 10:08

March 1980, can't book yet.

hennybeans · 27/04/2021 10:08

Aug '79 here so not eligible. But when I went to check, for the first time I got a screen saying I had missed my first appt so needed to rebook. Then when I clicked on the button to rebook, it said I am not eligible. What is going on !?!?

TheMerrickBoy · 27/04/2021 10:11

We have a big vaccination centre in my city, but I guess it's all booked up for 2nd doses? Seems insane to drive somewhere else and back, especially as Dp's Moderna jab gave him an instant sore arm... would be difficult changing gear on the way home, based on his experience.

I think it must be overloaded? I got the screen saying I'd not been able to attend my first jab (which I didn't ever book) and would need to book again, and now the list is shorter and the nearest one even further away!
Frazzled2207 · 27/04/2021 10:14

@TheMerrickBoy
It will be that to some extent but in my city's case I think they just haven't released slots for next week yet. Yesterday there were a few slots for this week up to Friday. Nothing for next week. So I think just not released yet.

SurreyMumOfOne · 27/04/2021 10:21

@WaitinginWorcestershire

So how long does email confirmation take to come through? I have booked but don't have an email. I can't check as I don't know the booking reference. Got text now to book.....
I booked mine last night and only received the text & email confirmations this morning.
TheMerrickBoy · 27/04/2021 10:21

Fingers crossed then!

Autumn101 · 27/04/2021 10:22

Hennybeans - that screen comes up for me too!

HSHorror · 27/04/2021 10:23

I just complained at 119 as cannot believe there are no appts ever showing at a city of 500k and yet they want to add more year groups!
They need to sort it quick as we are laying to dust all areas within an hr drive! So what the crap about anyone who cannot drive
We are already looking at 15th may!

HSHorror · 27/04/2021 10:24

Can you do gp for one and main site for other?

Frazzled2207 · 27/04/2021 10:28

Bristol is just under 500k and no appointments showing for locals not eligible. Our doctors surgery only doing 2nd jabs Some are travelling bath or Somerset only doable via car. The Bristol vaccination Centre is south so 2 buses for all other areas of Bristol to get there via the city centre. But apparently its not showing anything in Bristol today for those who can book.
Firstworddinosaur · 27/04/2021 10:53

I rang 119 as I'm 43 but the nhs booking system says I'm not eligible....even though it says 42+. They just fobbed me off with 'oh its just taking time to update try again tomorrow'. FFS I just want to book!!!

HSHorror · 27/04/2021 10:56

Its offering worcester so about an hour away

Scissorsforthedrifter · 27/04/2021 10:57

When it dropped to 50 my CCG took a few days to allow you to book. Wonder if it's where you live, @Firstworddinosaur

HSHorror · 27/04/2021 10:58

119 couldnt do anything even when i said i wanted to complain

They need to flag this as its pretty unacceptable.

WaitinginWorcestershire · 27/04/2021 11:00

HS it wasn't offering Worcester last night!

Yes it must be my area, I'm in Bedfordshire, hopefully not long now. I got so excited when I thought I could book this morning!
RedToothBrush · 27/04/2021 11:03

I know there are definitely problems with some vaccination centres booked solid twelve weeks in advance. They add new slots daily as the next day gets entered to the system as it updates. You can only book if you get lucky and get those new slots as they pop up.

A friend of mine has told me that she's been told that Manchester seems to be behind and is having problems with booking people in. She said to look out for pop up clinics through the council website which are just walk in, no appointment necessary.

From what I'm hearing this seems to be common in major cities.

Also the online booking system seems to be more centralised locations rather than based locally. My guess is that people in these areas with mobility are booking centralised locations (perhaps in cities) which is adding to the problems.

So its hard to get an appointment close to you if you are out in the sticks, but if you are in the smoke its hard to get an appointment because the demand is much higher due to people travelling in.

Given that they seem to be closing a bunch of hubs too, thats probably the issue. They need to increase the number of sites again.

ouchmyfeet · 27/04/2021 11:05

Does anyone know if booking through the national link would mean you don't get a text from your GP inviting you when they have capacity? I'm not eligible yet but DH is 43 so in theory can book today. Nearest appointment is 20 miles away and in mid May.

Wondering whether to book it and wait for contact from GP, at which point he could cancel the May booking

OrangeBananaFish · 27/04/2021 11:10

I'm in Darlington. We have a mass vaccination centre on the outskirts. Another one in town, plus there's also Middlesbrough not too far away. Nothing anywhere close. An hours drive for me. I keep checking every hour or so just in case.

I get that they want to concentrate on 2nd doses, but why open it up to us as well? I've never been bothered about waiting my turn, but now it is my turn I want it. Its like standing in a queue for a till at the supermarket or shop and as soon as you get to the front the cashier goes home
