Its the pictures coming out of india, with the recent festival and hundreds of people crammed together, during a second covid wave. This virus will just mutate forever, its too global to contain. Its just never going away. What the hells going to happen to us or our kids futures?
I can't see a way out of this. Science can't catch up, its too far spread to ever get a handle on it.

@HesterShaw1

FFS. Stop watching the news, get off MN, get outside and just bloody do stuff.
Ive been a walk thanks. Theres fuck all else to do up here.

It cant go on like this forever. It's just not sustainable.

We will have a good start on herd immunity by now with vaccine rollout and previous cases.

Exactly.
Bonifacethethird · 20/04/2021 20:33

Honestly since it all kicked off I've thought it might take about three years for normality to return. That is still my hunch.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 20/04/2021 20:34

Australia and New Zealand are living normally within their own countries.

Chazzy19876 · 20/04/2021 20:35

@CoffeeWithCheese

Science was never going to be able to eliminate this - think about how many viruses we've managed to eliminate as mankind (hint: it's a very very small number and with the fuckwits running the world these days even if they did - they'd manage to leave the remaining phial of doom on a bus or something retarded).

It is going to become something akin to flu that the dominant strain changes each year and some years are nastier than others. Realistically we cannot afford the hit to have constant lockdowns, everything running at reduced capacity forever, and everyone 2 bloody metres apart or we'll manage to make ourselves bloody extinct as a species when no one can get within shagging reach of another human being.

There are a lot on here who really do delight in the doom and gory horror stories though and seem to have covid doom and judgement as a newly acquired lockdown hobby.

Step away from the covid board - go argue about fruit shoots or something on AIBU and get out of the doom spiral a bit.

This is brilliant 🤣

OP defs take a step back from the news. Life will go back to normal, as humans we are sociable creatures and our economies won’t survive. There can’t be another lockdown in this country, it would finish us.

XenoBitch · 20/04/2021 20:36

The Spanish Flu burnt itself out. No pandemic lasts forever. All these lockdowns etc are prolonging this one though.

Frequentflier · 20/04/2021 20:36

I am Indian and feeling all this very intensely at the moment. The guilt at sitting here, while half of my family is there, is killing me. And just a few months ago India was seemingly doing very well. I try to not watch the news, get out in the sun and just take each day as it comes. Focus on the small pleasures and not the big future.

Oly4 · 20/04/2021 20:36

You’ve made a load of assumptions in your post.
India is in a mess because vaccine rollout still isn’t high enough to prevent a massive wave.. and yet they are holding mass events.
There is no evidence that vaccines don’t work at all against variants. The World Health Organisation and others are actually quite positive. Anyway, we will have new vaccines by autumn. Science CAN easily keep up.
Some people who are worried might continue to social distance and wear masks, most of us will go back to normal.
Yes we will have to live with a certain level of death but we already do that for other illnesses.
Basically.. there is lots to be positive about!

ssd · 20/04/2021 20:37

The Spanish flu is completely different. They weren't all jumping on planes then.

The Spanish flu is completely different. They weren't all jumping on planes then.
They had mass movement as the First World War ended and everyone returned home.
ssd · 20/04/2021 20:39

Still not near as global as this is

@ssd

The Spanish flu is completely different. They weren't all jumping on planes then.
It was also different in that science was nowhere near as advanced. They weren’t able to develop vaccines in a few months... in fact their microscopes weren’t even strong enough to identify it as a flu virus for a significant period of time. But yeah, just focus on the negatives. It really helps.
SummerHouse · 20/04/2021 20:41

You are spiralling OP. I have been there and got the sad, sorry t-shirt. Situation is terrible in India. They are in my thoughts and prayers (not religious).

You honestly need to protect yourself at the moment. That's as easy as switching off the news and social media. It really, really helps. The worrying does nothing to help the situation and is just going to hurt you and your mental health.

NothingIsWrong · 20/04/2021 20:41

@ssd

Still not near as global as this is
You are utterly determined to wallow in this. You crack on. If you are saying there is nothing to do but walking, you are not looking hard enough. In the last 2 weeks, my children have had dancing, swimming and gymnastics lessons, we've been for a family swim, out for lunch in a pub, spent an afternoon with friends in the park with a picnic and ice cream, we've seen relatives and both of us have been working nearly full time in offices.
Quartz2208 · 20/04/2021 20:41

Ssd Spanish Flu had LOADS of people moving about at the end of the First World War.

But actually the argument about planes means that it has spread far quicker than say the Black Death - that lasted years because its movement across Europe. But in each individual area it was less. (Although outbreaks did occur).

You are right though it is never going away - like every single other virus we have ever had except for Smallpox. We do need to learn to live with it. The variants and mutations are all fairly similar now.

There is a lot to do other than go for a walk. Are you too anxious to do so?

ssd · 20/04/2021 20:42

Your right @SummerHouse
Thanks

@NothingIsWrong crack on yourself

Were not all in England

OP posts:
kickergoes · 20/04/2021 20:43

And the vaccines cant keep up with everything out there. Theres too much of it.

What qualifications do you have to validate this?

Quartz2208 · 20/04/2021 20:44

And Spanish Flu was global like this - only small pockets escaped

lightand · 20/04/2021 20:44

Get as much out of life as you can, within the rules.

I see so many people not living life as much as they can at each stage as rules are relaxed.

Do not worry about tomorrow.

CarmelBeach · 20/04/2021 20:45

My area is doing surge testing at the moment due to allegedly high cases

My parents panicked though they are due 2nd vax any day now

Once I actually looked at the case numbers, I was surprised how low they were. I'd say try not to worry. Vax numbers will be very high by end of summer.

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 20/04/2021 20:47

Seriously? I dont believe you for a second

If I’d been asked to hazard a guess as to who had started it, your name would have been up there OP.
