How are your local secondary schools doing now?

Just wondering how things are across the country. My local secondary, having escaped relatively unscathed so far, currently has approx 260 children at home isolating, after approx 15 cases. Still very much out there!

Just one case in our entire school of 1,200 here since the return last term.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 19/04/2021 17:56

Cases were detected on the pre tests before school returned after lockdown but we have not been informed of any cases since and we were notified of cases pre lockdown

NeverForgetYourDreams · 19/04/2021 18:02

No cases in our school
Since they went back in March. Secondary with sixth form so about 1000 pupils

Deux · 19/04/2021 18:05

Zero cases since September 2020 in a large secondary school of 1200 in the SE. Local infection rate really low, 8 per 100,000.

UserTwice · 19/04/2021 18:13

3 positive cases (all asymptomatic, identified by LFD and confirmed by PCR) in total since they reopened in March. The smallest number there's ever been per week since September. Very large secondary school.

PatriciaHolm · 19/04/2021 18:24

I think a lot of the country only went back today. In England, around 1.6m LFTs were done yesterday -the majority of which were probably school related, as the secondary school kids were supposed to be doing them before returning - with around 1200 of them positive (0.08%).

herecomesthsun · 19/04/2021 18:48

No positive cases of which I know since March, in either our primary or our secondary school.

FindingMeno · 19/04/2021 18:54

None as far as I know this term.
Last term was awful though with stacks of cases.

DumplingsAndStew · 19/04/2021 18:55

Which country are you asking about?

Just back today but not heard of any cases picked up. Only had two cases in pupils and one teacher since August.

NasebohrenIstSchoen · 19/04/2021 19:04

Ah of course yes, lots only back today after Easter. We were back last Monday at ours. By country I meant England I suppose, or the U.K. in general. Was just wondering how things were elsewhere as they’re pretty bad here. Hope it’s just an anomaly and it calms down soon!

We always had kids off! From September. Year 11, Year 7, half of Year 9. After Christmas half of Year 7 and pockets of Year 11

Mintjulia · 19/04/2021 19:13

No known cases at the moment, and they're all doing LF tests twice a week.

andadietcoke · 19/04/2021 19:13

At DH's school the whole of Y11 are at home plus about 30 Y8s and some Y10s.

daffodil10 · 19/04/2021 19:15

No cases since they went back in March 2500 pupils. Tested twice weekly.

NasebohrenIstSchoen · 19/04/2021 19:33

@andadietcoke hmmm so it is similar elsewhere then. Northwest by any chance?

roguetomato · 19/04/2021 19:39

Seems very much normal. Had no SI since Sept. Only one positive case in school in Autumn term, not in my dc's year group.

andadietcoke · 19/04/2021 19:44

Yep - South Manchester - Stockport Council.

NasebohrenIstSchoen · 19/04/2021 19:55

Ahh there you go. Very close by!

LadyCatStark · 19/04/2021 19:58

A couple of cases were identified when they initially went back through the lateral flow tests but it’s all settled down now. There has been 0-2 cases in my local area for weeks now.

wanderbug · 19/04/2021 20:05

Before Christmas there were so many students and teachers self-isolating that they had to close the school to most year groups. DD didn't have to self-isolate but her face-to-face lessons ended early in December.

Since returning in March there have only been 3 cases. None of those have been in DD's year group, and she says that all of her teachers are currently in school.

Porcupineintherough · 19/04/2021 21:41

Steady trickle of cases since the school went back in March. They were badly hit between October and Dec last year though so a lot of kids and most of the staff already have a degree of natural immunity.

Silverfly · 19/04/2021 21:42

My DC went back last Monday. No cases yet at their school as far as I know.

skeggycaggy · 19/04/2021 22:00

andadietcoke, NasebohrenIstSchoen, ah I was going to say the same about a Stockport school, cases in every year & all of Y11 sent home.

NasebohrenIstSchoen · 19/04/2021 22:06

Hmmm sounds like it’s maybe mainly our area then! @skeggycaggy

1st case picked up at our school today since they returned.
Asymptomatic. Other children in the form tested, other children on the bus tested and any close contacts.
