Who is still dying?

MaxHanno · 14/04/2021 16:47

Do we know who is dying from Covid19 now? Is it still the elderly and clinically vunerable even though they may have been vaccinated? Or is it unvaccinated younger people?

Those with highly weakened immune systems will continue to die if infected, regardless of vaccination.

MaxHanno · 14/04/2021 16:54

Indeed...sad but true

Seems to be mainly 60+

ClashCityRocker · 14/04/2021 22:08

A mixture of -

  1. Those for whom the vaccine didn't 'take', for whatever reason. I think there is evidence to suggest that older people have a weaker immune response and no vaccine offers 100% protection in the real world.
  1. People who haven't been vaccinated - my CEV husband has been in hospital since early Feb so despite being offered numerous appointments at the local hub, hasn't had his vaccine (and given he is on end of life care, is unlikely to be offered it - and probably wouldn't take it if he was). Whilst take up has been impressively high, even 5% of large numbers is still quite a big number.
  1. People who caught the virus before being vaccinated/before the vaccine had chance to fully take effect.
  1. People who have died of something possibly unrelated, but happened to test positive for covid within the last 28 days.

I think 1 and 3 will probably be the largest groups.

Pootle40 · 14/04/2021 22:26

Well I thought the average age of death with Covid is still 80+. Hardly anyone is dying if we actually remember how many people die every day In the UK. Plus some of the people dying in the numbers we are told died weeks ago but we're only just registered

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 14/04/2021 22:35

I was wondering this too op.

I also wonder how many daily deaths will be “acceptable” in the long term - Flu deaths are in the thousands each year for the elderly and vulnerable and about 1400 people die daily in “peacetime” and no one bats an eyelid

At what point will the scientists say this is the daily number where we worry?

Unsure33 · 15/04/2021 07:28

Actually one person I know who has been told very low chance of survival is 48 and caught it before vaccine . No pre existing conditions.

However I will say the hospital has been brilliant and trying a lot of new treatments developed over the last year by research. If it had been in the first wave I think he would have had zero chance .

rosesinmygarden · 15/04/2021 08:05

There are also many, many people who are dying or will die because the NHS is effectively laregly closed and is refusing people treatment for other conditions.

I thought the above article was quite interesting. It is behind a paywall but you can read much of it. Many people have been saying this for months and months and told they were wrong.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 15/04/2021 08:54

The data has always been there though. The ONS is pretty transparent separating the figures.

givemushypeasachance · 15/04/2021 09:14

The NHS really isn't 'largely closed' this time around, especially now. My dad had non-emergency cataract surgery in the middle of lockdown three! And I have a doctor family member who is involved in specialist cancer surgery in London, and he's still been working on that throughout.

Im one of them!

I have been shouting this from the roof tops since day one.
I have repeatedly said on here this time and time again but no.

We get so many deaths shot in our face over the past year to scare us into compliance and no one has questioned the figures.

Too many people have been very willing to give up their freedom and liberties far too easily without question, imo.

Here’s the breakdown by age for this week.

Who is still dying?
LucilleTheVampireBat · 15/04/2021 09:30

MrsHastingslikethebattle me too. I have given up now though!

That's fantastic and I'm so pleased for you.

I and several people I know are being refused treatment unless we pitch up at a and e and stamp our feet. My emergency referrals have all been sent back with a 'computer says no' response, despite the fact I have possible cancer symptoms. In our area, the NHS is largely closed and people are getting very seriously ill as a result.

BrilliantBetty · 15/04/2021 09:37

Someone I know recently died after a short battle with aggressive cancer.

When tested (after death) it came up C19 positive and that was recorded as the cause of death. Even though no symptoms of covid and lots of side effects of the horrible cancer, which is why they died.

Misreporting imo!!

Clearly the NHS is great for individuals. My experience is being passed from holding appointment to holding appointment with months between them and not much actual treatment being done.
Mumblechum0 · 15/04/2021 09:43

I'm finding that the NHS is great so far as hospital is concerned, but virtually unusable if you're trying to see a GP.

I was called for a routine test recently, they found some suspicious bits, I got a letter last Saturday, went for biopsy yesterday and will get the results on Wednesday which I thought was pretty efficient. If it's anything nasty I'd normally go private but I got the impression that the NHS would whip the lump out within a week or two if necessary.

GPs on the other hand.....I've given up and only use the private service now.

Same here. My husband has endured 12 months of being let down repeatedly by the NHS. It absolutely is closed in many many areas.

This isn’t true.

It’s only been forced to not treat other conditions when overwhelmed by Covid. Lockdowns didn’t stop other treatments, locking down too late did.

Other treatments are happening now. I’ve been treated and so has my mum.

This is exactly my experience.

Ive been prescribed treatments which I've told the Drs I have already tried with no success and am basically dismissed and told to go away.

I'm now being refused any treatment through the normal channels and was forced to camp out at a and e to be seen.

Our gp have a totally unusable telephone appointment system with disadvantages anyone who need to work and are also refusing tests and medication which involves face to face contact.

This may not be in all areas but it's been like it in the SE for at least 18 months now. Most services are indeed CLOSED.

rosesinmygarden · 15/04/2021 10:10

Thats great for you @Blubellwood. It doesn't mean that what I'm saying isn't true and isn't happening though does it!

Radioheadbanz · 15/04/2021 10:14

Yep, my elderly relative who died last year died with Covid, not because of it. She was in and out of the hospital and on end-of-life care and it was 3rd or 4th on her death certificate. She makes up one of the numbers though.

FreyaFolkvangr · 15/04/2021 10:15

My friend's neighbour has just died. He'd had one jab so far a few weeks before his death.

He was elderly and went into hospital for treatment for a heart problem, I believe. It's very sad he died, but this is where society needs to get it's head around the fact you can't stop all people from dying. The vaccination isn't a miracle and any virus can kill someone who is already weak and unwell, unfortunately.

MrsHastingslikethebattle · 15/04/2021 10:21

@Blubellwood just because you or your family haven't experienced it, doesnt mean to make it not true.

There has been an quarter less cancel referrals this year and has many cases where those who have had cancer have to deal with it at home.
