Changing rooms that are open.

I thought starting a thread where we can say whether changing rooms are open or not in stores. Government guidelines allow for them to be open now.

I tried to buy a bra yesterday in House of Fraser (don't ask). Changing rooms were closed. I cant buy the hundreds of bras online I need to try on while trying to work out what fits me now. So I gave up.

So. Please add to this list.

House of Fraser - closed.

Zara had theirs open today

usernotfound0000 · 14/04/2021 14:46

H&M had theirs open on Monday.

TabbyStar · 14/04/2021 14:48

Mint Velvet open for up to three items.

lurker101 · 14/04/2021 17:09

@DialsMavis I’m jealous! Oxford St Zara changing rooms weren’t open on Monday, so I’ve got an outfit to return now.

Gant and French Connection were open

IcedPurple · 14/04/2021 17:38

@RoseRedRoseBlue

This is is just so ridiculous and over zealous. We need to be realistic about Covid and start lifting some of these pointless rules and policies.
I wonder if this is yet another example of reduced services - shops don't have to pay staff to monitor the changing rooms and return clothes to the racks - 'because of Covid'?
KatChocolate · 14/04/2021 18:12

Why can we try shoes on but not clothes? Are our feet not susceptible to the virus?

Actually mine are probably a very good deterrent Grin

MeadowHay · 14/04/2021 19:04

Random question but does anyone know if we take toddler DD to Halfords or something would they let her try on a helmet? Grin

52andblue · 14/04/2021 19:09

I went into 4 charity shops today. 3 had closed changing rooms.
I bought books.
1 was open, so tried on a dress. I'm not the same size as pre-lockdown.
I asked in all 4 shops. All four said 'the rules are unclear, bloody Boris'
(well, 3 were more polite but the last one did say 'B** Boris')

RaggieDolls · 14/04/2021 20:15

A non contact bra fitting? What is that?!

I've booked DD an appointment at M&S for a first bra fitting. There are no details on the booking email. Hoping that a/ they can actually help her and b/ I can go in the changing rooms with her as she has said she doesn't want to be alone.

schroeder · 14/04/2021 20:27

The Joules near me has not opened the changing rooms, so it might be worth ringing the actual shop as it could vary.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2021 20:42

So its not necessarily company policy driving this then if some shops in chains are open and some aren't. Unless company policy isn't being followed.

Its bloody ridiculous and I say that as someone who is CEV. We still need clothes that actually fit us and bras especially are impossible to buy without trying for many.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/04/2021 20:43

I mean I've had mine so long now, I cant even read the label to see if I can buy the same again because it's worn away.

Great thread

The lack of changing rooms is frustrating. The buy and return then lose the receipt grrrrr! Oh and queue to get in, then queue to pay then queue back in and queue to return 🙄.

I swear you could lick the clothes and still not get blooming covid (not that I recommend licking clothes... more for the nasty finishing chemicals and that it would be weird 😂)

Primark were shut.

Online has been hit and miss for us I thought women's were bad for different sizing but my daughter is driving me crazy trying to get things to fit her. She currently has 3-4/4-5/ 5-6 in the hope of a better fit! Locally all her sizes have sold out so anything I see I have to just buy and hope!

I found brastop fine for bras but I am able to buy enough for free post and return that said very few stores do bigger bras in person anyhoo (bras are a bastard to fit me so I do actually need to try all I order not just chuck one in to get free post). I wait for the sales there.

I’m in Lancashire and boundary mill outlet changing rooms are open and have been so all year
Sensible people

Haenow · 14/04/2021 21:04

@RoseRedRoseBlue

I went to a big shopping mall today and because I’m chatty and nosy, I asked lots of retail staff, just to gauge opinion. This is what I gathered;

  • Some places said because they now need staff manning doors and they’re limited in numbers of customers, the businesses have reduced number of staff on the floor so can’t (won’t?!) accommodate staff to assist in fitting rooms.
  • Some smaller places have fitting rooms too small to accommodate social distancing.
  • Some places are actively trying to reduce people trying on because everything then has to go into 72 hour quarantine, although all returned need to also.

Shopping isn’t a particularly enjoyable experience during Covid. :(

Francofilly · 14/04/2021 21:07

@DialsMavis

Oh good thread! I only know about Sainsburys-still closed. I desparately need to try on bras and jeans & can head to one of two shopping areas depending on who has opened up their changing rooms.
Annoying re Sainsbury’s! I haven’t tried yet but had an email from Tu Customer Services confirming changing rooms would be open from 12 April....
TrashPanda · 14/04/2021 21:08

I'm baffled at how M&S think they can do no contact bra fittings when they absolutely can't do them normally anyway!

IrisPurple · 14/04/2021 21:24

Matalan changing rooms were closed.

So of course I had to buy all the clothes I potentially wanted, in order to try them on at home so I could see which ones actually suited me.

I had a £15 off if you spend £75 voucher. They'd applied the discount to each item I bought, so when I returned some items I didn't get the full refund. So as a result of their closed changing room policy I lost part of my £15 discount despite still spending over £75 on items I kept. Angry

So beware!

PrincessNutNuts · 14/04/2021 21:39

@zzzebra

Also desperately need bras for my post breastfeeding deflated balloons.

Only place I've heard that has their changing rooms open is Bravissimo. But I don't live close to one.

I tried measuring myself at home and then ordering online but couldn't find a good fit.

You could do the boob or bust and a bra that fits calculators, and order something based on what they said?
mooonstone · 14/04/2021 21:43

@DialsMavis

Zara had theirs open today
Which Zara was this? I’ve been to a few recently and each still had them closed
ilovecarbs90 · 14/04/2021 21:46

Does anyone know when M&S is likely to open theirs?

I have a voucher but I have no idea what size to buy. I've lost a bit of weight so I need to try clothes on and I don't fancy the faff of ordering several sizes and returning.

PrincessNutNuts · 14/04/2021 21:49

Can we get colour matched at counter for foundation?

We're attending a huge family wedding in NZ via Zoom and my foundation has gone off.

schroeder · 14/04/2021 21:49

I think each shop will have to make their own decision about whether to allow changing rooms based on the size and layout of the shop.
