As expected the government are announcing a milestone of vaccinating all priority groups earlier than advertised.

Except it's a lie Angry

My ds is group 6 and has been told he won't be offered his first dose until at least the beginning of May because they surgery have been told they must prioritise second doses over the first ones (fair enough) and they don't have enough to do BOTH.

SO Boris - would you like you explain why you say this. Why you out vulnerable people at risk by telling the non vulnerable to go out and about thinking they aren't putting others at risk?

The vaccine programme HAS been amazing. But you haven't offered all those in priority groups a vaccine.

The article linked says:

“The expansion of eligibility comes after Boris Johnson hailed passing a “significant milestone” in the battle against the virus after the health service hit the target of offering all adults over 50 a first vaccine dose ahead of schedule”

But, irregardless, your GP surgery is wrong about prioritising second doses over groups 1-9 first doses. They’re the ones you need to be challenging.

itsgettingwierd · 13/04/2021 11:41

Marking the “milestone” of reaching priority groups, the prime minister said in a statement:“We will now move forward with completing essential second doses and making progress towards out target of offering all adults a vaccine by the end of July”

From the article I linked.

They haven't met that milestone. Priority groups include group 6. They aren't all vaccinated.

Ooops x post.

Reminds me of when the 4 hour wait to be admitted to hospital was solved by the Government several years ago.

Cornettoninja · 13/04/2021 11:52

www.gov.uk/government/news/government-hits-vaccination-target-as-pm-praises-precious-protection-offered-by-jabs

“All adults over 50, the clinically vulnerable and health and social care workers have now been offered a life-saving Covid-19 jab”

OP I think you need to be complaining to the practice manager and/or CCG. Whilst I understand the need to ensure second jabs are administered in time that doesn’t negate their responsibility to your son which they’ve had ample time to assist you with. Kick up a fuss.

Devils in the detail a lot of the time isn’t it? I do think this particular case falls on the shoulders of the surgery who have responsibility for this posters son though.
MRex · 13/04/2021 11:55

If you know you're getting a Pfizer dose, can you call 119 to get him booked in the same day at that centre, or ask the centre themselves?

Absolutely

itsgettingwierd · 13/04/2021 12:07

No one under 30 can book through NHS website or 119.
I've just rung again and it's the first person who told me it's under 30 and that's why.

So the truth is that statement linked above in the gov.uk website is an absolute lie and factually totally incorrect.

She also said despite that letter saying not to prioritise second vaccinations it also states they must be done within 12 weeks and so it's a contradiction in terms because they can't work alongside each if you have 10 doses of pfiezer and 10 people needing 2nd dose.

I get waiting. I get supply issues. I don't get complete lies being printed that's placing people at risk.

DS has a neuro apt this afternoon and that's my next person to ask if he can book him in!

Next thing you know people who have been "offered" a vaccine will be blamed for not taking up those "offers"

nether · 13/04/2021 12:18

There are a fair number of the immediate households of CEV (immune suppressed) whose priority was only reinstated about 10 days ago and who have yet to be offered appointments.

Those who are under 18 in particular, because they were always Pfizer only, but now all under 30 as well.

A small group, but one who have seen their CEV relative overlooked in a few occasions , being overlooked themselves

StarCat2020 · 13/04/2021 12:22

@nether
So statement by gov is even more of a fabrication?

Disgusting

The guidance to GPs is absolutely clear. Groups 1-9 first dose comes before any second dose. That document doesn’t state they must be done within 12 weeks at all. It says However, this should be as close to 12 weeks as possible and as a minimum at least 8 weeks after the first dose as recommended by JCVI . They are misinterpreting it. They should in no way be refusing to vaccinate group 1-9 with first doses. If they have supply issues, that’s a different issue they should be taking up with whoever the distributor is. Unfortunately if you’re meeting with intransigence from them, there’s little you can do. Lots of people in the asthma group who should have been included in group six met with differing interpretations from their surgeries too.

Twinkie01 · 13/04/2021 12:26

I'm not in any of the top groups and booked mine through the government app this morning for tomorrow. Our Doctors surgery is still ploughing through group 6.

RosieLemonade · 13/04/2021 12:26

My area is doing 30-39 drop in service.

Actually it’s also CV cohort household members too, not just CEV. Another example where the guidance letter from the NHS is being interpreted in different ways. If I can find the relevant document I’ll post that too.........
Judashascomeintosomemoney · 13/04/2021 12:34

Arrrgh! Nope scrap my last post, I’ve done it now! That’s only for immunosuppressed NOT all CV people.....sorry everyone, as you were.🤦‍♀️

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 13/04/2021 12:36

I'm 47. Logged on this morning. Booked my first dose for a week on Saturday and my second dose for mid July. Was really straightforward....

Baileysforchristmas · 13/04/2021 12:39

I know a lot of people under 30 who have been vaccinated with mild asthma, ages ago
so i’m not sure that’s the reason

People in group six can’t book using the booking system though (unles they also happen to fall in to the relevant age group who can). They have to wait for their GP to invite them and so they’re at the mercy of differing interpretations of the guidance.

Quite possibly, imho I would want to know how the surgery/vaccine centres are recording their contacts though. It’s believable to me that an in-house system doesn’t allow for a ‘waiting for x brand’ option and instead records someone who can’t have a particular brand as a ‘did not attend’ to be contacted at a later date. (This happened on the national system with my df’s records and I’ve seen people baffled as to why this pops up for them too). These would count in the governments statement today.

I don’t like defending the government but it’s possible that it’s not so much an out and out lie/propaganda but a limited IT set up that doesn’t pick up nuances and no one has prioritised what is clearly a problem for some. Whether that’s because they’ve been easily resolved on an individual basis mostly up to this point I don’t know.

Generally NHS systems do what they need to but don’t really pick up errors until they become a big enough problem, partly through through the users lack of knowledge and partly because of a bad initial design. There’s a reason while roles in the NHS are dedicated to the eighteen week pathway.

Cornettoninja · 13/04/2021 12:56

While = whole

PickAChew · 13/04/2021 13:02

My 17yo only got his Pfizer first dose just before Easter. He had to go to a different gp hub for it and everyone else there was getting second doses. He was fitted in with just a few days' notice so hopefully your gp can do the same for you, if they have any leftover doses made up.

PickAChew · 13/04/2021 13:04

And, even before the clotting came to light, the AZ vaccination wasn't licensed for under 18s, which is why OP can't book her ds in online.
