I do - more so today not sure why
I’m scared of the Brazil Variant affecting the young
Afraid of getting the vaccine - what more will be found
Obviously not taking is not the smartest option - so afraid everyday I’ve not had it is a risk
Afraid to go back to work in the office

I just feel so tired and teary all the time

Nope, I'm feeling great. Meeting friends out for a meal next week and getting a manicure. Life is starting again!

Hellohello53452 · 08/04/2021 15:05

I get it OP. Fear and worry is a completely rational response to the overwhelming information thrown at us over this past year! In fact I’m pretty sure that was the intention. Despite what many say it cannot be switched off at will and it is inevitable that it will have long lasting consequences. I am looking forward to the relaxation of rules, vaccination etc because I remember how good it felt before but it doesn’t stop me being scared. Try not watching the news for a few weeks is the best advice I can give, it really will help you get some control back

QuietBatPeople1 · 08/04/2021 15:20

I made the grave mistake of reading the news and car across the Brazil news. Big mistake

Nope. More scared of what is going on in NI. So sad to see.

Delatron · 08/04/2021 15:23

Nope. I feel really positive today. Good reports out that we may reach herd immunity by Monday. One article also pointed out many have t-cell immunity rather than antibodies so this won’t come up on tests/studies but will contribute to even more immunity nationwide. Then it also pointed out 1 in 10 already have some natural immunity from other similar coronaviruses. Well that made me feel great and off I went about my day! Things are on the up.

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 08/04/2021 15:23

I'm scared of the goalposts changing yet again; of all the talk of 'safety' and the inability of some to grasp that life is inherently risky. Coronavirus will always be here, is this how we continue to live? New variants will always appear- I'm scared that the response in future will be restrictions and lockdowns rather than acceptance.

I'm scared of the suggestions of vaccine passports and the control the government seem to want over us all, the police and crime bill being another example.

I'm not particularly scared of the virus but do worry about the effect the pandemic, the continual manipulation and bullying by the government has had on my mental health- even whilst being more concerned with other effects I now sometimes get paranoid about passing the virus to someone else. This has gone from being my parents to now worrying about my children. Just one massive head-fuck.

NameChangedForAChange · 08/04/2021 15:24

Nope, not scared one little tiny bit.
Have had first jab and felt fine.
Cannot wait for shops and outdoor cafes to reopen next week.

We are in a completely different situation than Brazil. Our country is not similar at all in terms of population, infrastructure, healthcare. Their leader has done nothing to impose any restrictions, our government hasn't been perfect but they did act when cases started rising. We have half of all adults with their first vaccination, and our vaccinations work against the Brazilian variant. We are not going to end up like Brazil.

The UK is in a really good position as long as we continue vaccinating but just to point out the reports of herd immunity being reached by monday are extremely controversial and have been rejected by experts.

This was work done by Professor Karl Friston, a neuroscientist who has been widely criticised for his work on COVID-19 of which he doesn't have expertise. His most recent publication has been debunked by scientists and the health secretary: www.independent.co.uk/news/health/covid-uk-herd-immunity-vaccine-latest-b1828491.html

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 08/04/2021 15:36

Not scared of vaccine...had my first one and felt so lucky. Am worried about variants from Brazil. It seems like a melting pot of covid and Bolsonaro is a criminal for not putting any measures in place to protect the public.

Brazilian variant is in British Columbia and starting to cause havoc there now.

Poorlykitten · 08/04/2021 15:39

Reading about Brazil is indeed scary and heartbreaking. I’m suggest you try not to seek out news articles regarding these triggers. It will be better on your MH. Try and focus on what you have now. We are in a good place at the moment and there’s lots to be thankful for. As for the vaccine, I think if you are worried you should try reading more scientific research papers on the sunburst and avoid threads on mumsnet! There’s a lot of misinformation and scaremongering about. This is the first huge mass vaccination in a long time, especially at at once with these numbers. There are bound to be lots of people reporting strange symptoms. 99.9 % will just be coincidence.

I'm absolutely terrified of the government, and what they have done/are doing to people. I was genuinely scared of dying at the start of the pandemic, I work with very young children, no social distancing, no masks, but over a year on, I still don't know anyone who has been hospitalised with it, and I haven't caught anything from children or colleagues. I don't trust Hancock or Vantam or any if them, and I am genuinely fearful for my children's future, but not because of the virus.

largeaslifeandtwiceasugly · 08/04/2021 15:47

should be more worried about the South African variant, that is the one that the vaccines, especially AZ do not work against.

Delatron · 08/04/2021 16:00

I know @oldegg123 it’s one model but we always discuss the doomongering worse case models with thousands dying in June so it’s important to have this balance. Some models say Monday, some say May, some June. It’s just nice to see some positive news in the media. Whether it happens or not we will see. We do have huge levels of vaccinated people, huge numbers who have had it and herd immunity doesn’t necessarily have an impact from just say 75%.

Even at 50% the impact on spread is huge. This should be discussed and understood.

missymousey · 08/04/2021 16:04

Is there more to it, OP? Being tired and teary all the time suggests maybe you need a bit of support. Do you have someone IRL you can talk to?

Orangesandlemons77 · 08/04/2021 16:07

I feel more kind of compassion fatigue I think, sort of empty and exhausted. Mind you have much more of concern with some family matters right now which to me is more pressing

kittensarecute · 08/04/2021 16:13

I'm just scared restrictions won't be lifted in June, I need normality back and I'm desperate for social distancing to be scrapped.
