I do - more so today not sure why
I’m scared of the Brazil Variant affecting the young
Afraid of getting the vaccine - what more will be found
Obviously not taking is not the smartest option - so afraid everyday I’ve not had it is a risk
Afraid to go back to work in the office

I just feel so tired and teary all the time

I feel for you op, do you had support in rl?

Unmellowbirds · 08/04/2021 16:14

Nope. I am very, very bored, though, and really want things to warm up and a bit of normality to return.

Moondust001 · 08/04/2021 16:16

@largeaslifeandtwiceasugly

should be more worried about the South African variant, that is the one that the vaccines, especially AZ do not work against.
That is not what the evidence says. A small study of young people (so the sample is statistically flawed) suggests that the AZ vaccine does not prevent you getting a mild case of Covid. That is not the same thing as "not working".

The vaccines - none of them - can prevent people contracting the virus. They reduce the chances of people getting serious infections, and since none of the people in the study got a serious case, then you could argue that it worked as designed. Equally, since they were all young, you could suggest that they wouldn't have got a bad case anyway. And reducing the number of cases is not just about who has had the vaccine - it is also about how many people have had it, and in South Africa, the answer to that is "not enough". There is other research that says that is it not as effective against this variant, but it is still "effective enough" at reducing serious cases.

I think the media have done a fab job of making people forget that they could get ill and die from all kinds of things and not just covid, and that we used to all live our lives regardless!

There’ll be a huge rise in people suffering from extreme anxiety thanks to all this.

chipshopElvis · 08/04/2021 16:35

No. I spent the first part of the pandemic feeling terrified but now feeling really positive. I've got my second vaccine next week. Looking forward to things opening up again. If you can find Tim Spector's zoe update Imperial College) from yesterday on You Tube give it a watch, it will make you feel better.

It's going to be OK OP.

OhDear2200 · 08/04/2021 16:43

Nope.

There is no reason to be scarred of the vaccines.

Can I recommend you come off MN it is full of prople winding each other up today!

Echo chamber!

I agree. Also a really good job of this 'guilt' around passing the virus to anyone else. 'Don't kill granny'. Well granny has now been vaccinated so what now?

It's ridiculous as i would be quite happy for restrictions to disappear immediately, in fact maybe I'd actually worry less in a weird way. Because now, I'm no longer worried about passing the virus to my parents, I'm worried about passing it to my children. They're 6 and 8, the risk to them is tiny, but I now feel like if I passed it to them I'd feel horrendously guilty. They're back at school, they could catch it there.

My mental health and anxiety is not good after the past year.

Kimye4eva · 08/04/2021 16:51

I’m busy scheduling in gym sessions for next week and arranging to meet friends in beer gardens. Cannot wait!

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 08/04/2021 16:56

Can I ask if anyone else is worried about their DC catching the virus? I've tried to reconcile in my head that they are incredibly low risk from it. Aren't they statistically more at risk from flu? And chicken pox when they had that?

I think it's all the 'blame' around spreading the virus. It's really affected me.

Not in the slightest. It's been a year now, we have pretty clear data that the risk to children is vanishingly small.
StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 08/04/2021 17:02

Thankyou @Waxonwaxoff0, sometimes I just need it to be said to me I think! It's like I'm not at all worried about them being back at school but I will feel guilty if it's me who they catch it from if that makes sense?

No my DS caught covid off me and his dad a month ago. He was so mildly unwell. Sore throat only really. Other 2 children didn't get it. I wasn't at all worried when he had it as he was eating, drinking and playing as normal
Lovestonap · 08/04/2021 17:07

Nope. Not scared at all. Off on holiday on Monday and can't wait!!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 08/04/2021 17:14

I’ve never been scared but I think the fact that I’ve never been able to stay at home and have had to go into work via public transport throughout has helped keep it in perspective to be honest. Can’t wait for things to open up, I’m sick of living to work with no fun or freedoms involved.

rosie39forever · 08/04/2021 17:15

No I'm really optimistic, I've just been to visit my mom and dad (in the garden) for a cuppa and chat and my outdoor fitness class is starting again on Monday. All of my family have had their first jab with many second jabs scheduled for the next couple of weeks.
It really helps to live in the now if you can, and try not to dwell on the what ifs, concentrate on the things you can control not on what everyone else is doing or what might happen.

Suzi888 · 08/04/2021 17:17

You can die from a whole host of things, the chances of dying of covid are small (generally). Someone I know of, packed up her PC and bought herself a mini fridge and kettle for her bedroom at the start of covid- setting up office in her bed. Literally her bed. She died from DVT not long into the pandemic and she was only in her fifties.
My aunt and uncle both CEV, both in their eighties had covid and both although unwell with vomiting and lethargy are fine now thankfully. My mum has had her covid jab and is the most unwell she’s been in years with vertigo. She’s bed bound.
There’s far more to be concerned about than covid 19. Yes 2019 this happened and look at us, still living like this, people are still dying, their cancer is left untreated, their mental health is declining, their livelihoods, our economy. I pray 2021 is the year things get back to normal.

eandz13 · 08/04/2021 17:19

@user1494055864 my thoughts exactly.

rosie1959 · 08/04/2021 17:26

Not scared little point worrying about things that haven’t happened

confuseddotcom090 · 08/04/2021 17:49

I'm terrified of our government and them using this as an excuse to foist a digital ID on everyone under the guise of a test/vaccine pass....and then sell our data and line their pockets.

They're so greedy and criminal they won't stop at using the fear they've induced to try and discriminate against those that recognise them for who they are. Look at their willing helpers on here who demonise those who question the severity of the pandemic or whether the vaccines are safe. Government's unwitting little helpers. Or are they witting and evil? I'm not sure,

ChocOrange1 · 08/04/2021 17:55

No I wouldn't say scared. I have never really felt scared except perhaps for those first few weeks in March when it all kicked off.

DianaT1969 · 08/04/2021 17:58

No. Full of optimism now. Can't wait to get out there and back to normal. Remember that herd immunity is rising fast in the UK.

tsmainsqueeze · 08/04/2021 18:04

Not scared of the virus , have had it very mild.
Had 1st vacc but can't say i'm that happy about it , made me quite ill , much worse than actual virus , dreading next one .
I am actually totally past caring about virus but feel flat and empty about life because of it .
I have empathy for everyone who has lost someone , but my biggest fear is what will be left and the laws, changes and rights that we may no longer have .
All the moving of goal posts , u turns etc very scared of all that .

mermaidsariel · 08/04/2021 18:12

No I’m not afraid at all. I want life to get back to normal. I’m done with the doom mongering and hysteria.

MaxNormal · 08/04/2021 18:13

@confuseddotcom090 that's all I'm scared of too.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 08/04/2021 18:15

Nope. Cannot wait to get back to the pub, to a restaurant, a packed gig.
