I do - more so today not sure why
I’m scared of the Brazil Variant affecting the young
Afraid of getting the vaccine - what more will be found
Obviously not taking is not the smartest option - so afraid everyday I’ve not had it is a risk
Afraid to go back to work in the office

I just feel so tired and teary all the time

Nope.

I'm done with feeling scared. I'd rather die than continue with the restrictions that I've been subject to over the last year.

Living in Leicester has been brutal, and I slipped through every available furlough and self employed financial scheme. I'm not prepared to loose any more life and would rather take my chances than live in fear.

MagicSummer · 08/04/2021 19:42

So what if the Brazil variant affects the 'young'? Various forms affect different sections of society!

bookworm1632 · 08/04/2021 19:46

@Delatron

Nope. I feel really positive today. Good reports out that we may reach herd immunity by Monday. One article also pointed out many have t-cell immunity rather than antibodies so this won’t come up on tests/studies but will contribute to even more immunity nationwide. Then it also pointed out 1 in 10 already have some natural immunity from other similar coronaviruses. Well that made me feel great and off I went about my day! Things are on the up.

Lol - the Telegraph article right?

It's complete nonsense - we don't even know if it's attainable yet as it depends on the extent to which the vaccines stop transmission, but if we can get there, it'll be a few months off yet.

motherrunner · 08/04/2021 20:07

I’m a teacher. Have spent the last year living with anxiety as spend my day in closer proximity with 200 people plus a day. Had the AZ a month ago - feel relieved.

thenightsky · 08/04/2021 20:14

Nope. Was a tiny bit worried this time last year. Since mid-May last year, I've been pretty much over it. Now, I can't even be bothered to think about it.

DamsonTrousers · 08/04/2021 20:15

No, I’m feeling pretty good. Nice bright weather, if stark bollock freezing when you step out the door, and less than a week until I finally get a haircut!!!

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 08/04/2021 20:39

Nope, I'm sick of the whole thing.

My 10 year old tested positive at the weekend. Loss of taste and smell on occasion and a bit of a headache. I've had my first vaccine so hoping I'll be fine.

I have family in S.A. who haven't bern vaccinated and aren't afraid of the varient. If they aren't worried about it in not going to!

QuestionEverythingOrBeASheep · 08/04/2021 21:18

@daffodilsandprimroses

I’m terrified of the vaccine Sad
Me too, especially with all this pressure to take it for the greater good. Where will these people be if it goes wrong, not helping that's for sure because they are okay. I do have a history of DVT on my mother's side and a protein deficiency so I'm not going to risk it. I've actively looked after my health and my immune system my whole life and have only taken medication on a handful of occasions. Rarely do I pill pop and I can't remember the last time I went to a Dr, maybe 12 years ago. Either way for me, how I live, my absent social circle and lack of interaction even pre covid, it's not something I'll do no matter how much I'm flamed, encouraged, coerced.
ShrikeAttack · 08/04/2021 23:54

No, no I'm not scared of the virus.

I'm also not scared of mad conspiracy theories where the government wants to control us.

I'm not really scared of unlikely scenarios or mad things.

Fear's internal. You don't have to be scared. We'll all be deaders soon enough. Why waste the years we have with fear.

What are you scared of? Why? Much striving is fear-based. What do I want? Why do I want it? What if I don't get it?

Fuck it.

I've always been a fan of the Stoics and the Epicureans. Just live your life, never live it for anyone else, but enjoy the people around you that bring joy and solace.

I'm not anti-capitalist, I see it's human nature to want more and better for their families. There's nothing essentially wrong with that. All societies were based on the predication of wants. And that's ok.

It's all OK.

Being so scared of death that you can't actually live is topsy-turvy though.

ShrikeAttack · 09/04/2021 00:01

You all get in cars every day, knowing that people die on the roads every day, due to the carelessness of others. You still do it.

I know seven people who have died in RTAs. I still drive.

I know women have died from blood-clots whilst taking the contraceptive pill. I still did it.

I know that multitudinous women have died in childbirth. I still had children.

Why has this virus caused more fear than these more common killers?

And why has the vaccine, caused more fear than a pill women take every day?

LoveFall · 09/04/2021 00:02

I am in British Columbia and everyday the news is so grim. Today we had record cases. The government says the variants are dominating and they are going to assume that is what is spreading.

The whole Astra Zeneca thing is frightening people off vaccines. Our ling term house cleaner is eligible for the vaccine but said today "not yet." She is hesitant I think because of the media reports.

Thankfully my husband and I have both had the first Pfizer injection, but I worry about supply for the second.

They were going to use the AstraZeneca for frontline workers but now it is restricted to older groups so that has slowed down.

We are in a three week "circuit breaker" lockdown. Whistler has had an outbreak and is now shut.

It makes me upset, scared, and angry that people have brought the Brazil variant here and that our government has let it happen somehow.

SueSaid · 09/04/2021 08:34

'The only thing that scares me is the government keeping us on this nonsense merry-go-round because of a virus that 99.9% will be fine with & for most it's no worse than a bog standard cold virus'

Well if we're all going to be 'scared' the one thing that 'scares' me is after everything we've seen, the massive surges in critical care that have only been managed by pausing routine and elective services, we still have folk bleating out such crap as above 🙄.

The gov have no reason to keep us on this 'nonsense merry-go-round' other than the fact it is public health crisis. Look at Europe, look at Brazil!

How tf can people still think it's all been overegged. Jesus.

Poorlykitten · 09/04/2021 08:34

@ShrikeAttack maybe because we have seen what happens if it’s ignored? Brazil have tried to coast through it and at what cost? It’s like a war zone out there now, with people dying on the streets and mass graves. They didn’t have lockdowns as we have done or other measures. Quite simply that could have been us with all our hospitals totally overwhelmed and shortages of oxygen. The danger is not so much the virus but an overwhelmingly high proportion of the population getting it, I thought that was clear now?

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 09/04/2021 08:37

Nope, I haven't been scared at all throughout the whole thing . You can't be scared of illness it's part of life , if you stopped to think about how dangerous life is and how vulnerable we really are to all sorts of things then you are not going to get the best bits.

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 09/04/2021 08:40

@Poorlykitten how can you compare Brazil to the UK? How many favelas in your neighbourhood?
Do u think people didn't due in the streets out there before this pandemic . You need to educated yourself about other countries and stop thinking Brazil is Surrey with sunshine

SueSaid · 09/04/2021 08:41

'I am in British Columbia and everyday the news is so grim. Today we had record cases. The government says the variants are dominating and they are going to assume that is what is spreading.'

Oh but for many it's no worse than a cold so just ignore it and get on with it! that is the pathetic theory of many bright sparks on mn.

A pp who compared it to car crashes and deaths in childbirth.. it is different y'see because every icu is not busting at the seams with post childbirth complications. It has been a supply and demand issue regarding critical care, which for those 1year later who still can't keep up, means that if you or a friend/relative needed critical care after a car accident there may not be a bed available because sadly many ICUs were struggling even with a surge capacity.

Still it's only a cold and 'only' over 60s die. Innit.

Poorlykitten · 09/04/2021 08:43

Thank you. I’ve actually been there but it doesn’t negate the fact that this virus could get out of control. I don’t understand what’s so tricky to understand about that. As one poster said, even with our measures we have still reached critical capacity at times and an NHS very much a breaking point. My friend in ICU was driven up to Newcastle because no beds.

Poorlykitten · 09/04/2021 08:45

And for the record people do very much die on the streets of U.K. it’s mostly homeless people so nobody reports it.

Beebityboo · 09/04/2021 08:55

I'm mostly scared now that may 17th will get pushed back and I'll have to wait longer to see my family :(.

Pinkandwhiteblossom · 09/04/2021 09:00

Nope. More scared of what is going on in NI. So sad to see.

This^^

@Derrymum123 if your username represents your location, thoughts are with you all. So sad to see these scenes again.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 09/04/2021 09:03

@Beebityboo if the rates stay as low as they are currently there’ll be no justification in keeping people away from their families and pushing that date back. It’s bordering on criminal as it is, no other nation in Europe bar ROU has that in place. I’ve already seen some of mine (outside, and on one occasion in) and no way will I be accepting any more bans to visit my own family. Data not dates was supposed to be the message, remember? I’m not going to blindly follow the government any longer when they no longer have the numbers to back this shit up.

jasjas1973 · 09/04/2021 09:11

@MagicSummer

So what if the Brazil variant affects the 'young'? Various forms affect different sections of society!
You should be, that variant appears to be much more vaccine immune, re infects those who have had CV before.

BUT the current vaccines seem to limit its severity and the risks of blood clots are tiny, whereas the risks from CV are huge, inc disability and death.

So try to remember that if you want to refuse AZ.

Beebityboo · 09/04/2021 09:13

They live too far away to have them over for a few hours in the garden, and I live in a village that has gone full wicker man during this pandemic so would get reported if they came inside. I feel so isolated and so lonely. I've never had lots of friends and none round here at all. My mum is my best friend Sad.

DenisetheMenace · 09/04/2021 09:14

Quite the opposite. Had first jabs (AZ), seconds in May and June. Feeling more positive than we have for a year. The free, twice weekly LF tests for everyone are a big, positive step forward too.

Tartyflette · 09/04/2021 09:20

We subscribe to a daily newsletter from NHS.managers.net. written by Roy Lilley , who talks a lot of sense.
His email today, talking about the Oxford Astra Zeneca blood clot risk and the mismanagement of news, said that all the Government needed to say, was;
^All medicines have risk, even Aspirin. The risk from OAZ, for some people, under 30yrs is tiny and not worth worrying about… but if you are concerned, you can have an alternative. The biggest risk, for you, your family and all of us, is not being vaccinated…
… end of.^
