Can the 40-49 age group now book their vaccine?

Sister’s boyfriend (43) was able today to book his vaccine by entering his details on the national booking site (he is Derby based). Sister late 30s tried too but it said she was not eligible. Her husband tried last week and was also not eligible. Just wondered if anyone else has tried in the 40s age group and been able to book?

My GP hub were offering 2 days a week of first jabs and I assume the other days were being used for second jabs

Crispina · 14/04/2021 09:15

They were offering Thursdays and Saturdays

worriedatthemoment · 14/04/2021 09:18

@WombatChocolate yes think I will as he had to go in peoples houses as part of his job so very important really

WombatChocolate · 14/04/2021 09:20

Even if GPs were previously offering more clinics of 1st jabs, remember that supply is limited for 1st jabs at the moment. There were no deliveries for this purpose this week and won’t be any next week.

The GP on the other thread said they are offering just 1 clinic for 1st jabs for a fortnight and won’t be calling anyone else for 1st jabs until that period has passed and until more delivery comes.

The system is different now to earlier phases as supply is less and there is much more reliance on the national booking system and non-GP led services. That’s not to say there aren’t any, but relying on them coming through for large numbers in the next weeks won’t result in everyone being happy. Some areas will just offer what they have to 49s as they cannot offer local to all.

If you don’t. Book nationally you will eventually get scooped up by GPs, but that could be well into May.

@RedToothBrush Good point. I was surprised in the difference in vaccine hesitancy between France and UK. (Graph from January, so before the blood clot thing was talked about.)
It feels like it's spreading here a bit based on mumsnet, so hopefully younger age groups won't have a much lower take up than older.

@worriedatthemoment I've got 1st at Taunton and 2nd at Westpoint, is that an option for you?

middleager · 14/04/2021 09:30

@WarriorN

A friend in her 40s around Birmingham had the jab a few weeks ago; she says they're onto the over 35s there.

So either vaccine hesitancy or other factors has pushed that programme on.

I'm in the NE and anecdotally south Tyneside seems to have also moved further ahead.

It depends on the luck of the draw again. I'm 48, Birmingham area. Friends at neighbouring GP in their 40s were vaccinated a month ago. But my GP, just two streets down, has not been offering vaccinations on site, so I had to wait and only got mine yesterday after the national system opened up to over 45s.
Ceara · 14/04/2021 09:30

My GP surgery cancelled booked vaccination clinics last week and this week and postponed the appointments by a week or so. Assume vaccine supply issue? though there could be an unrelated reason. I have booked through the national website and I think it may be a while before my GP gets to my age group.

middleager · 14/04/2021 09:34

I had AZ, 8am appointment. Have a headache as the only side affect. DH, 47, has had fever and chills, no appetite. So relieved to have it though.

middleager · 14/04/2021 09:35

Effect!

Crispina · 14/04/2021 09:40

I felt a bit fluey the day after AZ. Lemsips helped a lot though. Small price to pay. Felt fine the next day

RedToothBrush · 14/04/2021 09:55

Another thought about London...

How do you go about vaccinating more than 100% of the population (according to the ONS figures) in the 75 - 79 age group in every area but London? Thats quite a feat.

Second Homes? Poorer record keeping? People moving out of the capital / UK due to Covid during the course of the pandemic?

ArtfulPuss · 14/04/2021 09:55

Really appreciate this entire thread and everyone contributing. Also thank you @WombatChocolate – your posts the other day really helped me to recognise the value of continuing the rollout to healthy under-40s in areas with lower vaccine take-up, when I was struggling to get my head around it before.

RedToothBrush · 14/04/2021 09:58

The above about more that 100% of the population being vaccinated outside London very much suggests that the London figures may well be no where near as bad as they appear on the surface and indicates a movement of people out of London especially amongst older age groups who have retired.

It would mean more that the ONS records were out of date rather than the figure for London being significantly lower.

Had Moderna this morning (48)

BentBastard · 14/04/2021 10:25

Those who were worried about not getting confirmations, I just got mine, 26 hours after booking, so might be worth checking email again for peace of mind.

ilovebrie8 · 14/04/2021 10:28

@User27aw whereabouts are you that you are getting Moderna? if you don't mind me asking!

CooDeGrass · 14/04/2021 10:34

Done! NE England, AZ.

I even got a sticker “for being brave” Wink

Fingers crossed for everyone else who’s still waiting to book.

Me too. Felt quite excited on my way in.

Currently sore arm, but it’s been in less than 2 hours so early days.

jealous of your sticker!
mrsknottschicken · 14/04/2021 10:54

I had AZ today, 8.30am. Just a sore arm so far but realise it's rather early days for side effects! I would have preferred Moderna - and am slightly kicking myself as the Madjeski was one of the options available to me, but I didn't book it because I thought a hospital would be a better bet. BUT I am very thankful to have been vaccinated and was impressed with the organisation, cleanliness and people a the centre I went to.

My friend was 45 at the start of April and the computer says no for him, so I'm thankful really.

User27aw · 14/04/2021 10:54
@User27aw whereabouts are you that you are getting Moderna? if you don't mind me asking!
It was at the Madejski stadium in Reading

Blondiney · 14/04/2021 11:52

Quick update for those wondering whether to wait for GP to invite to prevent the n3ed to travel.

I was accepted on the NHS website on Monday but decided not to book as the locations were a faff to get to. GP just texted to invite me to get it at my local doctor's surgery. Much easier.

Glad I waited a whole 2 days. Grin

ilovebrie8 · 14/04/2021 12:06

@Blondiney thanks for that update re GP's! useful to know...

Blessex · 14/04/2021 12:12

I just had my AZ. @mrsknottschicken why would you have preferred moderna? They both give 100% protection against severe disease. Is that not enough for you? Honestly I think how bloody lucky we are in this country to get any of them.
