Anyone else regretting their choice to get vaccinated?

onthetracks · 03/04/2021 09:27

I had my first vaccine 4 weeks ago (AZ)
I was really put off my having it and didn’t feel 100% happy, but since I’m clinically vulnerable to Covid and I also look after my elderly grandmother who is Clinically extremely l vulnerable, i thought it was the right thing to do.

Since having the vaccine I read no end of negative reports, side effects, blood clots and now deaths.

I’m terrified that I’m going to develop a blood clot and die.

I know this may sound irrational, which is surprising for me as I’m usually able to rationalise things.
But I can’t help feeling that it’s all been a bit rushed.
We’re all so desperate for normal life that we’ve jumped at the chance to be injected with something that we don’t actually know is safe.

Only now that millions of people are having the vaccine are we being alerted to adverse effects.

I’m really starting to regret that I’ve had the vaccine and I honestly don’t think I will go for my 2nd jab. 😣

I’d just love a vaccination, AZ or otherwise. But I’m in my 30s and it’s clear it’s still a long way off. It’s madness to be worrying about this when you had the vaccination 4 weeks ago. If we all have to suffer under restrictions for longer because people can’t assess risk properly and don’t turn up for their second AZ doses it will be absolutely infuriating.

thenightsky · 03/04/2021 10:17

I took the pill for a few years and now take HRT, so I can't see AZ as more risky, so I'll definitely be having my 2nd dose, even though I was really ill for 24 hours with the 1st.

I'll just do what I can to minimise risk by making sure I'm very well hydrated for the weeks afterwards and maybe take a small dose of aspirin.

LizzieSiddal · 03/04/2021 10:17

You have more risk of having Covid and developing a blood clot from that, than developing a blood clot from the vaccine.

People need to start reading proper scientific facts rather than the click bait headlines.

Midlifelady · 03/04/2021 10:18

There are fewer people developing clots than one would expect from the general population.
Your risk from covid is far greater, even though that risk is relatively small, risk of clots is teeny tiny.

PatsyJStone · 03/04/2021 10:18

No regrets.

I’m more likely to get run over by a bus than get a blood clot. Also, as others have said, unsure it’s been proved the vaccination caused the extremely few/rare blood clots.

I’m waiting for my second and can’t wait to do whatever having had both lets me do in the future.

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 03/04/2021 10:18

I think your feelings are rational as long as you don’t eat preserved meats (like bacon/ sausages) never drive or travel in a car, never eat BBQ food, carry no excess weight, drink no alcohol etc.

Since these all have known risk factors on your health.

IF there is a risk to the vaccine (and it is not proven that there is) it is still far less risky than you or those you care for catching COVID.

BlueJag · 03/04/2021 10:20

I have no regrets (AZ)

pinkearedcow · 03/04/2021 10:20

4.35 million people in the UK have had Covid.

Stats on deaths from Covid in the six months from June 20 to Jan 21 show that:

nearly 3,000 of those deaths were in people aged 50-59

962 were aged 40-49
331 were aged 30-39

89 were 20-29

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-reported-sars-cov-2-deaths-in-england/covid-19-confirmed-deaths-in-england-report

18.1 million people have had the Oxford vaccine in the UK. 30 have suffered blood clots and seven of those have died. No link to the vaccine has been proven.

It is a no-brainer, even for younger people.

Mumsnet need to do something about these fear mongering posts.

Pyewackect · 03/04/2021 10:21

I work in ITU and if you suffer from Asthma then you don't want to get Covid 19, believe me, you really don't. Also being on the pill carries a greater risk of clotting as does pregnancy/child birth and obesity.

I think you need to calm down and give your brain a chance to catch up.

GabsAlot · 03/04/2021 10:22

no i had mine a week and half ago still in the time i can get a clot but i wont regret it even if i do as covid would probably kill me

giao · 03/04/2021 10:25

I'm a rational person, I understand percentages, I'm delighted to be living in a country that has made the vaccine available to me. Looking forward to my second jab.

jessstan2 · 03/04/2021 10:25

You would probably have had a blood clot by now if it was going to affect you that way.

Take some low dose aspirin if you are worried.

I will be vaccinated this month and have no idea which vaccine I'll receive.

WilsonMilson · 03/04/2021 10:25

I have not had a vaccine, and I’d be concerned like you if I had. The vaccines are still in in trial stages until estimated Feb 2023. At the moment they have been given a licence for emergency use due to the crisis.
The truth is that no one knows what the longer term effects will be, they simply haven’ t been around long enough. On that basis, and due to being under 50 with no underlying health issues, and not working around other people, I’m not going to have it at present.
If I was vulnerable or elderly I would probably weight up the risks differently and have the jab.

FourWordsImMuNiTy · 03/04/2021 10:26

If your asthma is serious enough for you to be given the vaccine early then you are absolutely safer having had it than leaving yourself at risk from a bad case of Covid. Especially since there are no reports of these extraordinarily rare possible side effects happening later than a month after vaccination.

I’ve just had the AZ (fifty year old woman). If you forced me to bet I actually do think that these very rare clotting cases probably are vaccine related, I’ve never been a fan of the black and white “vaccine is safe full stop” narrative, but I’m completely confident that the tiny side-effect risk is outweighed by the benefits for me.

Vaccine protection will reduce my risk, it will make me confident about visiting elderly relatives over the summer, and letting my teenagers go out and about to mix with their friends and live their lives (as and when that becomes legal). That’s absolutely worth it.

pinkearedcow · 03/04/2021 10:27

C;lassic anti-vax script there from WilsonMilson

BreatheAndFocus · 03/04/2021 10:29

Covid is far more likely to give you a blood clot. Why weren’t you concerned about that?

You had the vaccine, you’re ok - chill!

SmallPrawnEnergy · 03/04/2021 10:29

100% this. “I’m terrified of something I’ve literally done ZERO research on” it’s getting ridiculous:

TJ17 · 03/04/2021 10:30

@Vickles20 I think you're right judging by the last comment from OP 🙄

Ffs would you rather catch Covid and die because that seems more likely.

CirqueDeMorgue · 03/04/2021 10:35

@Vickles20

Is this your first ever post on mumsnet? Just to stir up paranoia. I smell a rat people. Don’t bite.
Actually, this.
RosesAndHellebores · 03/04/2021 10:36

Nope not worried at all. Had it almost 4 weeks ago. Mother, Step and MIL have now all their 2nd doses. DH and I are looking forward to having ours on 25th May. DC, in their 20s, are looking forward to getting theirs.

MNet really need to introduce a "Grip" emoticon. OP calm down, be rational and buck up your ideas.

MeltsAway · 03/04/2021 10:36

I’m terrified that I’m going to develop a blood clot and die

This was just discussed on BBC Radio 4 Today programme, so reliable stuff:
your chance of dying from a very rare kind of blood clot after the AZ vaccine is 1 in a million ie 0.000001%

your chance of dying of COVID in the 30-40 age group is 1 in a thousand ie 0.001%

As others have said, if you’ve taken the pill or been pregnancy, you already had a much higher risk.

I’m actually very jealous you’ve had a vaccination!! There seems to be a significant political agenda behind the bad press.
