Anyone else regretting their choice to get vaccinated?

onthetracks · 03/04/2021 09:27

I had my first vaccine 4 weeks ago (AZ)
I was really put off my having it and didn’t feel 100% happy, but since I’m clinically vulnerable to Covid and I also look after my elderly grandmother who is Clinically extremely l vulnerable, i thought it was the right thing to do.

Since having the vaccine I read no end of negative reports, side effects, blood clots and now deaths.

I’m terrified that I’m going to develop a blood clot and die.

I know this may sound irrational, which is surprising for me as I’m usually able to rationalise things.
But I can’t help feeling that it’s all been a bit rushed.
We’re all so desperate for normal life that we’ve jumped at the chance to be injected with something that we don’t actually know is safe.

Only now that millions of people are having the vaccine are we being alerted to adverse effects.

I’m really starting to regret that I’ve had the vaccine and I honestly don’t think I will go for my 2nd jab. 😣

No, not at all.
I feel, extremely fortunate to have had my first vaccine and will go,for my second as soon as called.
Dh managed to have his first yesterday and again he, and I, felt incredibly fortunate.
My parents have both had their first and mil has had her second.

In 'real life' I don't know of any friends and close family who haven't been happy to have their vaccine and know of none who will be declining either first or second.

My bout of covid and ongoing issues 6 months later were of far more concern to us all.

I had my first vaccination, the Oxford/AZ one, a couple of weeks ago. I'll be happy to have the 2nd one when offered.

Even if a causal link is found between these blood clots and the vaccine, the incidence is very rare and, for the sake of my own health and the nation as a whole, it's a risk I'm prepared to take.

LemonandGingerTeafor2 · 03/04/2021 09:52

No absolutely not regretting 2nd on Tuesday

@Bakeachocolatecake2day

FGS, there have been no deaths....Stop reading stuff on the internet and do your own research from proven sources.

Clots are in the normal range for the age group of people (i.e. not related to vaccines)

@Bakeachocolatecake2day

Yes, there have been deaths.

I had AZ three weeks ago. Had one night of fever and chills. No regrets and will get the second dose.

There is a new thread at least every day on this at the moment. It's strange that a good number of them are started by posters who are new or namechanged. I wonder why that is?

It's important to be able to freely discuss the issues around AZ, but I have the feeling that some on this site won't be happy until they have frightened others out of taking the AZ vaccine.

devildeepbluesea · 03/04/2021 09:53

I was on the pill for 20+ years. I can certainly rationalise the fact that even if there is a link with the AZ vaccine, it's much much lower than the pill.

Had my first AZ on Thursday, chuffed to bits.

DumplingsAndStew · 03/04/2021 09:54

Nope, I don't regret it. I had my first dose around 4 weeks ago too. Not sure which one I had, but most likely AZ as it was at my GP surgery?

Gothichouse40 · 03/04/2021 09:54

I don't regret it but yes, the blood clot thing is a bit concerning, but Covid-19 also causes blood clots and much, much worse. I thought long and hard for many months and have always felt between the devil and the deep blue sea with the choices. I had quite bad side effects but did expect it. I have an autoimmune condition so wasn't really surprised. If I'm ok in the four week time period, I will prob have my 2nd and I know my side effects will be worse. I prefer this to intensive care or worse. I have stopped looking at the news as it doesn't help my anxiety. I only look at news very occasionally to inform myself of world events. Try not to worry, although that's easier said than done I know.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 03/04/2021 09:54

@onthetracks do you travel by car? Do you go on airplanes? Or trains? Millions of people do, every day (ok maybe not planes right now!) and when anything terrible happens, we carry on using them.

I get that you’re anxious because this whole year has been utter shit and it’s all new to us, the covid virus itself is not new, just this variant, they’ve been working on a vaccine a long time.

UnderTheSkyInsideTheSea · 03/04/2021 09:55

Not regretting it, but am still feeling crappy nine days after having it, which I wasn’t expecting. I’d still choose that over getting Covid, though.

Bakeachocolatecake2day · 03/04/2021 09:55

@onthetracks - in the report you quote....

“Risk of death is still much, much greater in people who are unvaccinated than in people who have had the [Oxford] vaccine,” he said. “It would not put me off my next dose.”

Tartyflette · 03/04/2021 09:56

I am more than happy that i've been vaccinated. It feels great and i hope everyone who wants it will get theirs soon.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 03/04/2021 09:56

Millions of people have had the vaccination, not even double figures have had clots. I have no regrets at all about having the vaccination and wish people would please stop with the scaremongering. We need as many people as possible to get vaccinated, this type of post just fuels the fire.

weareallpassengers · 03/04/2021 09:57

Yes I am with you op. I am 52 had az 11 days ago..,All I have heard since is about blood clots in women my age .I am so stressed by it all.,I cannot see me having the 2nd dose

pinkearedcow · 03/04/2021 09:58

@onthetracks if you don't get the second dose, aren't you worried about the risk of getting covid?

Vickles20 · 03/04/2021 09:58

Is this your first ever post on mumsnet? Just to stir up paranoia. I smell a rat people. Don’t bite.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 03/04/2021 09:58

Well done OP. You're succeeding in spreading the fear. Biscuit

Vierty · 03/04/2021 09:59

Do you realise thar the rate of blood clots which may or may not be linked to the vaccination is 30 out of over 30 million. Do you seriously think that this is a risk worth worrying about?

FlyingBurrito · 03/04/2021 09:59

I don't think that's true

There have been deaths but as yet I'm don't think it's been established that they were caused by the vaccine.

bumblingbovine49 · 03/04/2021 09:59

No not at all and I'd be happy to take the AZ as my second vaccine. Then again I have a science background and understand statistics and risk in this context and the AZ vaccine is safe in my opinion after looking at the research . Even if 7 people have died as a direct to result of it, which is by no means proved at all , I'd still be perfectly happy to take it based on the fact that over 30million people in this country have had the vaccine

I absolutely think that the risk to my life and the quality of my life from Covid is several hundreds of times higher than the risk of the vaccine and my risk from Covid is pretty low to begin with , even though I'm not exactly young (50s)

Momsincharge · 03/04/2021 09:59

No

lurker101 · 03/04/2021 09:59

In my 20s so low risk for covid deaths, had the AZ jab and so glad to have had it. No regrets here at all.

sipsmith1 · 03/04/2021 09:59

Have you ever taken the pill? The risk of blood clotting from the pill is 3 in 10,000. The risk from he vaccine is one in 2.5 million isn’t it?

WestendVBroadway · 03/04/2021 10:00

Oh yeah, so many side effects. A friend of mine had the vaccine, walked out of the chemist , dropped her mobile phone and it smashed. She has never broken a phone before she had the jab so it must be related surely!Wink
