Anyone else regretting their choice to get vaccinated?

onthetracks · 03/04/2021 09:27

I had my first vaccine 4 weeks ago (AZ)
I was really put off my having it and didn’t feel 100% happy, but since I’m clinically vulnerable to Covid and I also look after my elderly grandmother who is Clinically extremely l vulnerable, i thought it was the right thing to do.

Since having the vaccine I read no end of negative reports, side effects, blood clots and now deaths.

I’m terrified that I’m going to develop a blood clot and die.

I know this may sound irrational, which is surprising for me as I’m usually able to rationalise things.
But I can’t help feeling that it’s all been a bit rushed.
We’re all so desperate for normal life that we’ve jumped at the chance to be injected with something that we don’t actually know is safe.

Only now that millions of people are having the vaccine are we being alerted to adverse effects.

I’m really starting to regret that I’ve had the vaccine and I honestly don’t think I will go for my 2nd jab. 😣

*vaccination

IdblowJonSnow · 03/04/2021 10:56

No!
I imagine the clotting issues would have happened to those people anyway.
Certainly the risk of dying from covid is much higher.

Chocolatecakes · 03/04/2021 10:58

No. No regrets whatsoever and I feel extremely lucky to have had it

ThatsShitTryHarder · 03/04/2021 10:59

OP, I think your best bet is to not have your second vaccination, then stay indoors until Covid has been completely eradicated globally.

Not much fun, but at least you’ll avoid the infinitesimally small risk of having a blood clot from the AZ vaccination.

SpareBib · 03/04/2021 10:59

No regrets, Covid itself is a much, much bigger risk, both to me and to more vulnerable people I could pass it on to. It would be wonderful to have 100% risk-free vaccines, but in reality they just don't exist: it is the same with any medicine.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 03/04/2021 11:01

Bonjour Emmanuel Macron.

Positivevibesonlyplease · 03/04/2021 11:01

I’ve had my first AZ jab and am happy and grateful. I will have the second jab without hesitation - the risk that Covid presents is much more threatening.

Well said.

I think a very worrying issue that has come to light since the pandemic is that many many people seem unable to understand maths adn think about thier individual risks. Previous posters have highlighted the relationships between bloodclots and the pill, HRT, (2 in 1000 after 7 years ) and childbirth (1 in 500), flying (possibly as high as 2 in 100), after surgery (in in 140) and yet 30 cases and 7 deaths in 18 million seems a risk too far for a vaccine.
My personal risk of catching and dying of Covid is 1 in 15,000 as a fairly fit 58 yesr old (there are calculators on line which will give you a personal risk). I am thrilled to have been able to be vaccinated not just for myself but for the hundreds of thousands of others who are not yet vaccinated and so will have protection from those of us who are.
Please people, think about the maths!

Kendodd · 03/04/2021 11:05

No regrets.
And I think a vaccine and treatments had to be rushed in the face of the covid death and very serious long term complications rate of covid.
The blood clot thing needs research but even if caused by the vaccine, the chances of dying from covid (even if younger) look many many times higher than dying from the vaccine.

ACovidofWitches · 03/04/2021 11:07

Absolutely no regrets and I'm looking forward to my second one.

We are so privileged in this country to have access to it. If you go back to remembering this virus itself is only just older than a year, we've had scientists working round the clock worldwide to get these vaccines produced asap but also safely and we get ours for free - it's just mind-blowing. We aren't even having to deal with the political cock-ups some wealthier countries have which are going to cost so many lives collectively. It would have astonished me if any vaccine had been produced and there weren't some minor problems at some point with them just because every single vaccine ever made has done some small harm somewhere along the line (even if just because some people have an allergic reaction to something in it). That's medicine for you - people have issues with aspirin and paracetamol too. There is no magic pill you can take that fixes something and never causes any issues. But overall most people are at much more risk from Covid than this jab. And yes, if you're on the pill or you drive, eat junk food or smoke you are at risk in bigger ways.

There is a lot of scaremongering going on about this vaccine because the others are being made for profit. Don't get sucked in by that.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/04/2021 11:07

I'd have mine today if I could. But then I don't take any notice of anti vaxx scaremongering.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 03/04/2021 11:07

Nope, no regrets at all, I had my second in January. I was very lucky and had it just before they extended the time in between the two.

The vaccination was worked on by labs globally, it went through testing. Everything has potential side effects, everything...have you ever looked at the leaflet inside OTC medicines?

Kendodd · 03/04/2021 11:08

@HuaShan
Can you please link to the risk calculator, I can't find a good one. Also, don't forget, it's not just dying from covid, people are being left with permanent health and organ damage. It's a horrible disease.

Emmacb82 · 03/04/2021 11:09

With every single medication there will be a handful of people that will suffer adverse effects. Does this mean that you won’t take paracetamol because somebody somewhere had anaphylaxis to it? Just weigh up the risk between having the vaccine and having covid and there’s your answer. Aren’t we lucky that science is so amazing and is the road out of this mess. People a year ago that died of covid would have loved a vaccine.

Parky04 · 03/04/2021 11:10

More chance of getting a blood clot through pregnancy, smoking and obesity.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 03/04/2021 11:10

No.

I had the A-Z, too, and don't regret it, and will certainly get the second one.

Topseyt · 03/04/2021 11:11

I had my first dose of AZ on 27th February and have no regrets at all. I am eagerly waiting to be asked to make an appointment for my second dose.

Any risk from the vaccine is utterly minuscule and I wish this baseless scaremongering would stop.

Stop looking for utter bollocks on the internet. The more you look for this shit the more of it you will find. Just because it is there though doesn't mean it is true.

Kendodd · 03/04/2021 11:11

With every single medication there will be a handful of people that will suffer adverse effects.
And yet it's funny people focus on vaccines so much and pretty much ignore the rest. I don't know why?

Rainbowsandstorms · 03/04/2021 11:13

@onthetracks I completely understand your concern as I’m 7 days post vaccination and have followed the news on this very closely. You are now however outside of the at risk time frame which is 4 to 20 days post vaccination so you can relax.

Personally I would like to see more data regarding the risks in our specific age group and gender, to enable me to make an informed choice regarding the second dose.

For everyone talking about blood clots in general terms. The event that is being monitored is a rare platelet disordered called thrombocytopenia which lowers platelet levels in your blood and then causes your blood to become more sticky followed by a rare type of blood clot on the brain. It’s the very specific rare type of event that is a concern, as it looks like it’s occurring at a greater rate than we would expect it to. Obviously the link is still being explored and the risk is small. However younger females seem to be one of the most at risk group therefore for me the data I would like to see is how many women in their 30s have been given the AZ and how many of them have had this type of clot. This is a new vaccination and it’s important that this is investigated throughly. It’s not scare mongering to be concerned. Each person will make their own risk versus benefits analysis and the outcomes of those of us who have had it will provide the data that will be used to fully establish the risk. I’m not saying anyone shouldn’t have it but I think people should have a proper understanding of the current situation. Some people will still be desperate to have the vaccination and be protected and see the risk as tiny. Others will prefer to wait for a bit more data. Neither is the right or wrong course of action. However it is not unreasonable for some of us who have had it recently had it to feel concerned as there is more data coming out while we remain in the period that this side effect could be experienced. The scientists are currently working hard to establish if there are any specific risk factors for the clots so it may well be that they are able to identify these and then avoid giving it to people who are at risk. It’s all early days.

Tatum1234 · 03/04/2021 11:15

Not at all, much higher risk for being seriously ill with COVID or long COVID. Will take the 30 in 18 million chance. Nothing is risk free.

FlyingBurrito · 03/04/2021 11:15

I'm not sure that's a very sensible suggestion, accidents in the home are statistically much more likely than the risk of a clot

I can't believe you're suggesting such a dangerous course of action @ThatsShitTryHarder , very irresponsible

Mistressinthetulips · 03/04/2021 11:17

I'm having mine tomorrow, in my 50s. I would like to know what warning signs there might be if you were affected by a blood clot and what to do.
I'm more worried about Covid than clotting so I am definitely having the vaccine.

YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet · 03/04/2021 11:17

Hello everyone.
We’re getting a number of reports about anti-vax sentiment and misinformation. Mumsnet, being an open site, does mean that this kind of thing tends to be robustly challenged on the boards, and many users are here looking for reassurance after all.

We're always on alert to anyone here with a specific agenda to share a particular (often extreme) point of view. We'll usually ban such posters as their contributions to threads are rarely helpful. We also delete links to sites that are clearly peddling bad science/fake news.

We think, especially with the emergence of new vaccines, it’s understandable people will want to discuss what’s involved - but we’d always urge anyone with questions to speak to a medical professional too. You can also find further information about vaccines on the NHS website. www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/why-vaccination-is-safe-and-important/

MintyMabel · 03/04/2021 11:17

Having had long covid for over a year and being under 35 I am delighted at having had the AZ vaccine two weeks ago

Some with long Covid are reporting feeling better after having the AZ jab.

I’m not going to have it at present.

“I’m going to wait until all the elderly and vulnerable take it, then for all your mums and dads to take it and if they don’t die, then I’ll have it”

If it is considered as safe as we are told it is, why won’t the govt accept liability for vaccine damage in the future? That worries me a lot.

It took me less than 10 seconds on google to ascertain that this is not true. The government’s own website has the coronavirus vaccine at the top of its list of vaccines you are eligible for a vaccine damage payment for. If things are going to worry you a lot, it is worth actually researching stuff rather than accepting something you saw on SM as the absolute truth.
