Just interested to see what people's feelings are given the latest news on AZ from Canada and Germany.

So, as the title says..

If you were offered the AZ vaccine tomorrow would you take it?

I do feel for those that cannot be vaccinated for whatever reason. However it does seem that with the fuss a lot of people are making, we are heading for a situation where this virus is mainly going to carry off the stupid!

delilahbucket · 31/03/2021 07:19

Yes of course! It's a smaller risk (if it really is a risk) than the contraceptive pill and I've been taking that for the majority of my adult life.

Circumlocutious · 31/03/2021 07:23

Yes. I take far greater risks every day, including being pregnant and giving birth.

Frequentflier · 31/03/2021 07:30

Yes. Waiting for my second dose.

Abraxan · 31/03/2021 07:33

Yes I would have.
As it is, I've already had my first vaccine which was Pfizer.

Dh is happy to have any, as is 18y Dd.

I don't know anyone in real life who is refusing the vaccine or any specific vaccine.

I knew a few who've already had AX including two in trials.

Lindy2 · 31/03/2021 07:34

Yes.

You can see by the number of new cases and the much, much lower number of deaths how the vaccine is helping us all.

Then you can look at Europe and see what happens when your vaccine roll out is failing.

The vaccines are saving lives.

@Boringlynormal

I wonder how many of the ‘yes’ people above are under 55 (ie the people that Canada and Germany have stopped giving it to).

I am. Had my first AZ on Friday and was bloody grateful - BUT - given the option again I wouldn’t have it for now. It’s very worrying to be on day 4 after having a jab that may have serious risks for women in my age group between day 4 and 20 post jab.

Me, Dh and Dd are all under 55. My friends are almost all under 55. All would be happy to have AZ.
EasterIssland · 31/03/2021 07:42

Im one of those yes and I’m 36

Abraxan · 31/03/2021 07:42

@Quit4me

What I don’t get it people saying 30 million have had the vaccine and very few have had clots. The thing is that the 30 million are in the large majority those above 50 and women and men. How many million women age 16-50 have been given the jab?
Group 6 has several million people in it and involved a lot of women. Group 4 includes a lot of people under 50 including woman. Many areas are vaccinate under 50s now and have been for a while.
Shosha1 · 31/03/2021 07:46

Due my second in a few days and never had a doubt.

Frequentflier · 31/03/2021 07:50

Am under 55 and so is DH. I think the risk of getting blood clots still less than getting Covid.

Oversize · 31/03/2021 07:52

I guessed that I'd be more likely to come to serious harm while driving to the vaccination centre than from having the vaccination itself.

MrsBennetsnerves · 31/03/2021 07:53

I have my 2nd AZ appointment in May and plan to keep it. I'm 57.

Boringlynormal · 31/03/2021 07:54

Those wary over a second dose all the cases of the rare blood clotting disorder in Germany were after 1st dose

That’s because most people have only had one dose. I don’t want to be amongst the first to be an under 55 female and have a second dose as I don’t feel there’s enough information about the risk yet. I trusted them and had my first dose and 3 days later several countries say it’s not safe for my age and sex.

Lauren15 · 31/03/2021 07:56

Absolutely yes.

Yes - I trust the scientists research more than my own attempt at research.

RedcurrantPuff · 31/03/2021 08:05

@BuggerBognor

No.

I’d already decided to avoid it because of DH’s side effects. So the news from Germany and Canada is just further underlining the decision I’d already made.

I’ll happily take Pfizer or Moderna.

Did your husband have blood clots?
Nith · 31/03/2021 08:06

Yes

RedcurrantPuff · 31/03/2021 08:08

People who are saying they aren’t having it because people have had blood clots - I’m interested in the thought process.

There has been something like 31 blood clots out of 2.7 million jabs - so say just under 1 in 100000. And no link established to the jab

Even in the youngest and healthiest people the risk of serious illness or death from Covid is higher than this.

TooMuchYarn · 31/03/2021 08:09

Yes. And I have worked in running clinical trials for 25 years.

I find it reassuring that countries are prepared to pause and examine the data in more detail if there are any safety concerns. It is exactly what you would expect the National Competent Authorities (not governments) to do with a product that has EMA conditional approval. It does not mean there is a problem, just that they are following due process in getting in more data to examine in detail what has happened.

This is what EMA conditional approval means - In the interest of public health, applicants may be granted a conditional marketing authorisation for such medicines on less comprehensive clinical data than normally required, where the benefit of immediate availability of the medicine outweighs the risk inherent in the fact that additional data are still required.

OppsUpsSide · 31/03/2021 08:10

So do you think Canada will give the all clear after more investigation?
Delatron · 31/03/2021 08:14

Yes I would. As risk is tiny.
We know for other medicines (the pill for example) has a small risk of blood clots and DVT. I took the pill for 20 years...

I would like more info. So in Germany how many total jabs have they given and how many in the affected age group. So we can work out actual risk.

How many doses have we given to women age 16-50 in this country with no issues? That would reassure people.

How many blood clots would we see per million people anyway? Etc. This is for reassurance of the public more than anything else.

RedcurrantPuff · 31/03/2021 08:17

I’m under 55

My risk of death from Covid is something like 1 in 700 I think. Risk of hospitalisation may be even more. It’s a no brainer for me.
