Just interested to see what people's feelings are given the latest news on AZ from Canada and Germany.

So, as the title says..

If you were offered the AZ vaccine tomorrow would you take it?

@BuggerBognor

Did your husband have blood clots?

No, he had temp >40, rigors, hallucinations where he thought he was being eaten alive and tried to climb the walls, screaming etc. I had to throw our mattress out because it was wringing with sweat. My autistic child has not slept through the night since. DH is young and is hcp hence getting it about 6 weeks ago. He won’t be having a second dose. We reported it via yellow card.

So yeah, no thanks.

Sounds grim. I hope he’s ok now.
doesthatmakesense · 31/03/2021 10:53

I'm off for mine in half an hour. Bloody grateful, if a little worried about the 24 hours afterwards- DH had chills/fever/aches.

Even if there is a causative link between AZ and platelet issues, it is still overwhelmingly less blood-clot causing than the contraceptive pill, which bazillions of women have taken every day for years.
OP, thank you for this post, it has been reassuring.

Those who don't want to have it and can protect themselves from covid / don't have high exposure risk, I can see the logic. For those with kids in school though, what I don't understand are those who are concerned that the vaccine could make them ill - aren't you equally worried about covid making you just as ill if not iller? Statistically it's far more likely to.

I do have underlying conditions, the science says I'm far more likely to have a negative reaction from having covid (and the risks are relatively high with 2 kids in 2 different totally non socially distanced schools without masks) than the vaccine. Rates already going up since schools went back here (unsurprisingly).

Wherediditgo · 31/03/2021 12:04

No I wouldn’t but that’s because I’m in a terrible mental state at the moment and feeling unwell. I’m terrified of the side effects so i would rather wait until I am in a better place.

Yes, already had first dose of AZ. So have DP and DS. We will all go for our second doses in about a month.

I've previously had a blood clot but it was a DVT/PE which is different from what's supposed to be associated* with AZ isn't it?

*At a possible rate of 1 in 100,000-1,000,000. I am not an expert.

I wonder if I'll be 'allowed' to have my 2nd dose of the guidance changes and becomes much more cautious?

Tonty · 31/03/2021 12:32

These blood clots, within what time frame did those who had them develop them?

MrsKeats · 31/03/2021 12:37

I've had it. So pleased.

AlexaShutUp · 31/03/2021 12:39

Yes.

Well, not tomorrow, but I've had my first dose and will have the second one when the appropriate time comes.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 31/03/2021 12:40

The vaccines reduce the risk of more common blood clotting issues like DVTs and PEs. COVID infection itself carries a very high risk of causing blood clots. If you have a history of DVT or PE it's likely the risk: benefit is greatly in favour of having the vaccine

It's only if you've had this very rare disorder heparin induced thrombocytopenia that you would be at increased risk as far as we know so far

ittakes2 · 31/03/2021 12:41

yes - I have had one already

Roszie · 31/03/2021 12:42

Yes. I am jealous of people who are being offered it.

Thanks, that's reassuring. After all the Heparin (Clexane) treatment I've had, I guess I'd know about it.

I'll look forward to dose #2.

I really appreciate your knowledge.

I fully expect Pfizer to be available privately before long if the NHS can’t accommodate a request for Pfizer, Moderna etc.

I thought there was going to be a ban on private sale of vaccines.

Already had the first AZ as a volunteer and having my 2nd at the end of May. Not slightly worried.

littlewhitestar · 31/03/2021 15:49

No but I have blood clotting disorder that is a risk factor for CVST.

IloveJKRowling · 31/03/2021 15:53

I'd go into debt to pay privately to be honest at this point if it was available (I'm desperate to be vaccinated!)... but I thought it was a principle laid down early on that they didn't want there to be a two tier system where rich people could get vaccinated and live an easier life/ travel / mix while poor people couldn't.

@ILoveAllRainbowsx

People take all sorts of medicines every day which can have bad side effects in a small number of people.

If we all worried about these rare side effects, no-one would take any drugs at all.

Most people don't even read the leaflet which comes with the medicines yet are worrying about AZ vaccines.

Excellent point. I must use that one next time I hear someone say they’re ‘not sure’ about the vaccine.
Ginandfantalemon · 31/03/2021 16:30

Just had my appointment through today for my vaccine and having read the recent news re. Germany and Canada I am truly petrified! I suffer terrible anxiety which at the moment is heading off the scale. I know I need to take the vaccine to get us back to some sort of normal, my friends are skipping off down to the vaccination centres, and I truly wish I felt the same, but I feel physically sick to be honest. I don't want to be a 'statistic' - the '1 in 100,000' who is unlucky. Its like a game of russian roulette. Might I die from the vaccine, or might I die from Covid? I just dont want to die quite yet from an injection of goodness knows what. It worries me that there seems so little 'bad' side effects reported in the UK. Are we not being told everything and just rushing them through before the truth gets out? I'm 56, so right in the middle of the age range re. the problems being highlighted. I do wonder if it could be something to do with women's hormones, or whether the women having these clots were taking the pill, or HRT, or were smokers. I feel I need to know all this first. It needs to be broken down and more transparent. I read on another post how many ladies have noticed their periods are being affected. I have two weeks to make up my mind!
