How’s everyone feeling about Happy Monday?

Wingingit15 · 29/03/2021 08:31

I’m not feeling all that happy actually and just feel will have to hide away more in a week or two when there has been so much mixing. Not saying that’s not right, just don’t feel confident at all particularly when schools
return post a fortnight of it!
I suspect it might be different if you’re vaccinated etc though.

For various reasons it doesn’t make much difference to me. But I’m happy for people who are getting to do some of the things they’ve been looking forward to.

LoudestCat14 · 29/03/2021 16:06

Relieved and excited. I'm not vaccinated but most of my friends are and I've got two of my girl friends coming round for lunch tomorrow in the back garden and I cannot wait.

PilatesPeach · 29/03/2021 16:07

I just taught a workout class outdoors at lunchtime - had 15 was great! Lovely weather, everyone happy, the first class I have taught since 18th December!

irregularegular · 29/03/2021 16:15

Very happy. Especially as it is sunny! Got a group of friends coming round for garden drinks tomorrow and a few things planned over the Easter weekend (all outside, all groups of 6 or two households, including my sister and her family who I have not seen since Christmas). Unlike some people (it seems) I've been sticking pretty strictly to just meeting one local friend at a time for walks since Christmas, so this feels great and I'm looking forward to it.

I'm a little worried about mixing taking off generally. I think that what I am doing is OK but if people start mixing indoors much more then it could be a problem. I hope the vaccines will be enough, but it is hard to be sure. I'm not anxious about my own or family's health particularly. It is not really in my nature (plus my older husband has had one jab and there is no-one close to me who is particularly vulnerable). But I am slightly worried about the possibility of hospitalizations increasing again and restrictions having to be tightened up, especially in schools and universities.

Newnamefor2021 · 29/03/2021 16:19

Well I had my vaccination on the weekend and feeling better today so happy Monday!

A huge amount of my husbands colleagues at British Gas are being handed their notices today meaning they will be fired on Thursday with no redundancy because they didn't agree to work unsafely with times jobs, take a pay cut and work more hours. So that's a bit shit really.

GrandDuchessRomanov · 29/03/2021 16:31

@Wingingit15 My DH has asthma and hasn't been hospitalised for it for over 20 years never mind within two.

He had his vaccine before me although according to the list I should have had it first.

I think you need to get back on to your GP practice.

homesickinscotland · 29/03/2021 16:56

I'm anxious about it, in my 40s, unvaccinated, children at school and worried about the risk of long covid in particular. Similar to the OP with no local support so can't risk getting ill. So today means nothing positive for me but just a little extra worry.

MrsBennetsnerves · 29/03/2021 17:18

I'm happy, but I am coming up to 3 weeks past my first vaccine. I've got a couple of outdoor social meetings this week and the weather's good. So while I feel some caution, I also feel a certain relief at any changes for the better right now.

Dowser · 29/03/2021 17:26

Not a lot different from any other Monday to be honest
Just been to a couple of garden centres
Which have been pretty busy but no ridiculous queuing outside

AllisoninWunderland · 29/03/2021 17:27

I’m happy because my DC can now meet their friends for outdoor and garden playdates finally. And I can have a couple of friends and my family round for drinks in the garden. And it’s the holidays and the sun is shining hurrah!

In two weeks we can go shopping and have a coffee/food outdoors too 😊

And the death rate is very low finally, half the population have had at least their first vaccine. It’s all looking so good.

Dowser · 29/03/2021 17:28

@Newnamefor2021i can’t see how they can get away with that
What about the union

CoffeeWithCheese · 29/03/2021 17:28

I welcome any relaxation of things before many people's mental health is destroyed any further.

To those with a problem with this - especially those who've whacked themselves on their own mental vulnerable list - you have had a year of my children's lives, you have had people's livelihoods destroyed to keep you safe - and now we've got people pissing and whining on here about how the buses are going to be full and how horrendous it is?! Fuck the fuck off.

Carycy · 29/03/2021 17:35

I’m mostly angry they haven’t opened up more. I have two weeks of Easter holidays to entertain my kids and there is very little we can do. Things open up more the week after so private school kids can take advantage of that. It feels extremely unfair. I have had enough of taking them on sodding walks and to the playground. We had cabin holiday booked that we had to cancel and missed out by one week. I don’t see how staying in a sodding cabin in the forest with my family could have harmed anyone. That’s our chance to have a family holiday gone now till the end of may. It is ridiculous that half the population has been vaccinated and we still can’t do anything.

beginningoftheend · 29/03/2021 17:35

@UmbilicusProfundus

But cases haven’t gone up despite all schools being opened for 3 weeks now. Yes case rates have plateaued (well yesterday was another significant drop actually) but this already reflects massively increased testing.

I don’t see how increasing social contact OUTSIDE will have much effect whatsoever. Later steps of the road map out of lockdown are clearly more risky though the numbers vaccinated will continue to rise until then.

Rates are rising amongst school ages according to Whitty today. Presumably parents will start to catch it in the weeks ahead.

Agree the later stages of easing are more risky.

Schools could be pretty grim by half term?

DumplingsAndStew · 29/03/2021 17:38

Meh, just another day.

motherrunner · 29/03/2021 17:38

Just as usual Monday. Teaching all day although we did send home two years groups today so I doubt they’ll be happy.

FedNlanders · 29/03/2021 17:39

I've had both vacines and still nervous

Carycy · 29/03/2021 17:46

Op Asthma has been excluded because it has been shown that it makes little difference to outcomes otherwise it would have been included.

Abraxan · 29/03/2021 17:47

No real change for me until the weekend. Still at work until Thursday when my school breaks up.

Dh was excited this afternoon to be heading off to play golf - and the sun's shining so he will be even happier.

The weekend will be more of an event for us re the new rules. Dd is heading home from university and it's her birthday. Her 18th last year was in total lockdown, but this year she can have 5 friends over for her birthday for drinks and food in the garden. I just hope it's dry.

It's the holidays next week too so we are driving nearly 3 hours each way to visit my parents, my sister and my nephew - not seen them for months, last twice at family funerals. I've not seen them since a few weeks before I was pretty poorly with covid in hospital in October. Me and my parents have all had our first vaccines, and all of us do regular LFTs so risk is minimal really, esp as outside. I'm so excited to visit and see them even if it means 6 hours in the car!

We will also be seeing friends in their gardens. Looking forward to G&Ts in the gardens :)

I'm just hoping for dry weather next week!

Me too, except late 40s for me. Rates will go up quickly. There will probably be fewer older people who get very ill, but those who do end up in ICU will be parents and their children's lives will be changed forever. Long covid is very common among 40-50 year old women.

AllisoninWunderland · 29/03/2021 18:17

Is long Covid really ‘very common’ in women in their 40s?!

Is there a link to show this?

kittensarecute · 29/03/2021 18:20

This. The roadmap is way too slow.

I would be surprised if it was. Been hearing this for ages with no evidence whatsoever. In fact the only evidence I have seen is the opposite
UmbilicusProfundus · 29/03/2021 18:25

Yep @2boysand1princess (and @beginningoftheend ) but last September everything was open. Restaurants were even carrying on EOTHO independently. We weren’t testing asymptomatic school children. Oh and we didn’t have any vaccinations. So I’m glad you are a bit more hopeful this time. And yes I am more cautious about what happens in a few months

dottiedaisee · 29/03/2021 18:27

I walked the dog today at one of our local recreation ground and it was really lovely seeing all the children letting off steam after school. My daughter walking in Brighton today and she called me for a chat...her voice was so happy because she said she was loving seeing people out enjoying themselves..so all good 😌
