How’s everyone feeling about Happy Monday?

I’m not feeling all that happy actually and just feel will have to hide away more in a week or two when there has been so much mixing. Not saying that’s not right, just don’t feel confident at all particularly when schools
return post a fortnight of it!
I suspect it might be different if you’re vaccinated etc though.

It's interesting the difference in attitudes. Like a couple of other posters on the thread I'm 45 with a school age child. I'm totally unbothered about catching COVID. The statistical chances of me becoming seriously ill with it are very slim and if it happens it happens. In the past few years I've had shingles and flu. Both were horrible and had me feeling awful but I didn't shut myself away in case I caught them. I've obeyed the rules to protect others but I'm happy things are opening up.

Coachee · 29/03/2021 11:00

@MaxRiemelt

Infection levels are plummeting. If you've not had the vaccine then you're obviously not vulnerable. It's fine. You're over thinking the situation.
I’m pregnant and 40, and am a bit worried about becoming higher risk as the world opens up. Not high risk as an individual so not offered the vaccine, but would be reluctant to have it in pregnancy anyway, due to a history of miscarriage and a lack of data. As a result I’m not making many proactive plans to meet people beyond the usual park trips etc.
Annabellesdad · 29/03/2021 11:09

I'm made up, I'm playing golf every day this week and twice on saturday! Cant wait for the 12th when I can have a sit and a chat outside the clubhouse with a coffee!
I've been stuck working (busier than pre covid in the cycling world) the whole way through this crap and just want to be able to live a little again!

There’s a lot of areas where infection rates are rising again, mine being one of them.
Wingingit15 · 29/03/2021 11:12

@MaxRiemelt

I see you have diagnosed yourself as "medically vulnerable"Hmm
@MaxRiemelt so sorry I couldn’t reply within the two minutes you waited for my answer. I have my hands full as a single parent of under fives. I’m not self diagnosed, I have Asthma but in my area you don’t get it unless been hospitalised in the last two years.

I'm happy i can now have a cuppa with my mum in her garden after our walk and not just disappear. Roll on May when I can sit inside with her.

Gladioli23 · 29/03/2021 11:25

Have you ever been hospitalised with Asthma OP? Because if so you should show them the green book: <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/961287/Greenbook_chapter_14a_v7_12Feb2021.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjMnKDGo9XvAhXITsAKHYpXCj8QFjAAegQIAxAC&usg=AOvVaw2Kn2NYY2Ish-b4veu4vQWc" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/961287/Greenbook_chapter_14a_v7_12Feb2021.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjMnKDGo9XvAhXITsAKHYpXCj8QFjAAegQIAxAC&usg=AOvVaw2Kn2NYY2Ish-b4veu4vQWc

And the NHS England letter:

<a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/wp-content/uploads/sites/52/2021/02/C1124-Vaccination-of-cohorts-5-6-and-additional-funding-for-residential-settings.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwj9w9ampNXvAhXRTsAKHW2wA2oQFjAAegQIBBAC&usg=AOvVaw2E06KQJSUE9jlU7GxQE1vS" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.england.nhs.uk/coronavirus/wp-content/uploads/sites/52/2021/02/C1124-Vaccination-of-cohorts-5-6-and-additional-funding-for-residential-settings.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwj9w9ampNXvAhXRTsAKHW2wA2oQFjAAegQIBBAC&usg=AOvVaw2E06KQJSUE9jlU7GxQE1vS

Which both state anyone who has ever had an emergency hospital admission due to asthma should be vaccinated.

But cases haven’t gone up despite all schools being opened for 3 weeks now. Yes case rates have plateaued (well yesterday was another significant drop actually) but this already reflects massively increased testing.

I don’t see how increasing social contact OUTSIDE will have much effect whatsoever. Later steps of the road map out of lockdown are clearly more risky though the numbers vaccinated will continue to rise until then.

Sparkletastic · 29/03/2021 11:40

@en0la

Great if Bez is involved, otherwise not bothered Grin
And Rowetta. She makes it for me.
Boredsillyathome · 29/03/2021 11:40

I'm excited it's my birthday on Saturday and I can actually see friends and family this year, my daughter is over the moon about football starting again!

ifonly4 · 29/03/2021 11:58

It's good we're moving forward. Have to say mixing inside with 200 children in close proximity is enough for me now though.

woodhill · 29/03/2021 12:00

Not happy as I am still not able to see my family who live in other UK locations.

Am I right in thinking we are still meant to stay local?

HolmeH · 29/03/2021 12:07

It’s now only guidance @woodhill - so you cannot be fined. We are venturing further afield now. Not too far, within an hour to different country parks etc all still in the rules of 6 etc ..

Bluesheep8 · 29/03/2021 12:07

Because asthma has been excluded unless hospitalised knows last two years.

Are you sure? I know 2 people who have been invited to have their vaccine because they've got asthma. Neither has ever been hospitalised.

woodhill · 29/03/2021 12:10

Unfortunately it is probably further but would involve driving on M4. I may consider it but don't want to be fined

woodhill · 29/03/2021 12:11

Thank you HolmeSmile

wevs · 29/03/2021 12:12

No, the sports minister was on the TV news this morning saying that the government had set no distance but people should be sensible about getting petrol etc in their own area to stop unnecessary spread of virus outside area.

And I read some other guidance on online newsite this morning that distance was not limited if visiting a relative who had been isolated.

So no distance set in law (which had better be respected by the police).

Mumof1andacat · 29/03/2021 12:26

Not fussed about today. Still contacting patients to get them swabbed before treatment to come in to hospital. Still the same conversations of covid doesn't exist, I've had a vaccine so I wont get covid, I cant come for a swab I'm busy! etc etc.

Last time someone said this was last September and we all know what happened with cases a few weeks later. I still remember that thread, so many posters saying schools been open for 3-4 weeks and we haven’t seen an increase yet. You won’t see cases increase in 3 weeks. First the kids catch it and then pass to each other, then the adults or community get it and that’s when you see a sharp increase. However, I’m very hopeful this won’t be the case this time round as we have half the adult population vaccinated now and many kids and parents being tested twice weekly.
wevs · 29/03/2021 12:39

Political expert on Jeremy Vine on R2 just now confirmed there is no legal limit on distance, just that you can't stay overnight.

EternalOptimist7 · 29/03/2021 12:43

Confused! And I’m working for most of the Easter holidays so need to sort a childcare bubble with my folks, who haven’t seen DD for ages.

Figgygal · 29/03/2021 12:49

I’m completely underwhelmed today ask me again on the 12th of April when I see an actual change to things

My family are on the other side of the country haven’t seen them since Christmas 2019 that’s not going to change today

Myself and everyone I know are working today so not exactly rushing out to see each other. I will probably see the in-laws at the weekend.

In fact biggest change is that my Eldest can get back to his football 4/5 times a week which honestly I’ve quite enjoyed the break from

No they aren't. They were, but they aren't now.

Plus they are higher than they were last august still

People being complacent and mixing, not social distancing will cause problems.

The vaccine is amazing, but more than half of the population haven't had even their first one yet.

The last thing we need is the infection rate going up again and the virus mutations changing to a vaccine escaping variant.

Don't take the pee with the change to rule of 6 or two families & keep up with social distancing, no hugging, masks & hand washing etc.

Don't be tempted inside

coogee · 29/03/2021 12:53

Today's changes won't make much difference to me. I'm looking forward to the next stage though.

Delatron · 29/03/2021 12:56

More like pathetic Monday. We’ve been in lockdown for 3 months. But now you can sit out in the cold with a few more friends. Basically legalising what most people have been doing anyway.
It’s another month and a half until families can meet indoors which is ridiculous.

The government are chucking out crumbs and expect us to be grateful. Hospitals are not overwhelmed, vaccinations are going well. The balance has tipped.
