AstraZeneca severe side effects?

Hi all, apologies if this has been asked recently I've been trying to limit my mumsnet usage as it was getting rather high 😳 had my first dose Saturday morning and since about 4pm Saturday I have felt like death. Saturday night had a raging fever and full body aches, tossed and turned all night. Yesterday felt like a zombie, nearly passed out from making a cup of tea so like the worst flu I've ever had and then some. Woken up today and again I feel like there's an elephant sat on my chest/upper body, neck pain and just no energy. Has anyone else felt like this for so long? Everyone says after 24hrs you should feel fine. Was hesitant to have it in the first place and now I do not want the second dose at all.

Exactly the same for me. Other firiends and family have had no problems Envy

Mammyloveswine · 29/03/2021 06:55

You probably should get a covid test..

Confuzzlediddled · 29/03/2021 06:59

I agree with Mammyloveswine, the only person I know who has had severe symptoms/ lasting more than 24 hours subsequently had a positive covid test as they had evidently caught it just before getting the jab.

ThankGodForChocolate · 29/03/2021 07:01

I don't for a second think I have covid. I always react badly to vaccines, it's why I don't get the flu jab like I should and was very hesitant to take this.

A couple of my friends were bad for 48 hours starting the following day, so it is possible. I hope you feel better soon.

Flowers24 · 29/03/2021 07:06

I have heard of several people feeling awful for 2 days after also,

Monkeytapper · 29/03/2021 07:06

I had mine yesterday at 12.35pm...so far so good, no side effects

bettybyebye · 29/03/2021 07:07

I k is several people who have felt bad for around 3/4 days afterwards OP. I was bad for about 48 hours. Hope you feel better soon

bettybyebye · 29/03/2021 07:08

I know!

MyOtherProfile · 29/03/2021 07:08

I felt really rough for about 36 hours then started to feel better. I heard a thing on the radio about how people react to this jab and they said some people just have immune systems that go into overdrive.

nicky2512 · 29/03/2021 07:11

My 19 year old Dd was like this for about three days and took a few days more after that to fully get over it.

ThankGodForChocolate · 29/03/2021 07:11

Fingers crossed I will wake up tomorrow feeling human again then 🤞🏻 I am in the immunosuppressed category so that's probably why my body has thrown me into overdrive. Going to have to force myself into the second dose I think. I only took it so as not to be a hypocrite as I told my mum to get it and now I wish I hadn't!

My ex had the same reaction as you. I had no side effects. What you are experiencing appears to be “normal” for some. My son is expecting similar side effects to you based on his friends/colleagues experiences. He is in his late twenties.

ThankGodForChocolate · 29/03/2021 07:18

@Iwant2move I'm late twenties, wasn't expecting to feel like this as my mum, grandparents were all fine just a sore arm. Seems I drew the short straw 😂 though I don't know anyone else my age who has had it

Obakarama · 29/03/2021 07:20

I had mine Wednesday morning. Felt grotty 10 hours later for a day, then fine. Yesterday though I started feeling dizzy, even fell over. Arm feels site. Anyone had a resurgence of symptoms?

Obakarama · 29/03/2021 07:21

Arm feels. *sore

MiniMaxi · 29/03/2021 07:38

It really does vary person to person. If it helps, apparently side effects are less from second dose. Hope you feel better today!

(FWIW I felt awful for about 36h)

Fontofallknowledge2 · 29/03/2021 07:39

My daughter had the AZ vaccine last Monday afternoon. Started feeling unwell Tuesday morning and had to take a couple of days off work. She stayed in bed on both days as she didn't have any energy and lost her appetite. Where she had the injection in her arm was very red and slightly swollen, the area also felt very hot. She was back in work on Thursday but her arm has only just returned to normal appearance.
I had the vaccine six weeks ago and didn't experience any side effects other than a slightly sore arm.
We're both grateful to have been 'jabbed'

Coffeeislife04 · 29/03/2021 07:45

I had the exact first jab Thursday its now Monday and I'm just starting to recover. I felt worse than when I actually got covid! I spent the last three days in bed with bad fly like symptoms hope you feel better soon.

louleey · 29/03/2021 10:30

It would seem that younger people are getting more side effects, from what I have read. Hope you feel better soon

DappledOliveGroves · 29/03/2021 10:38

It's not uncommon to feel awful and for side effects to last more than a few days. It appears, anecdotally, that the younger you are, the worse the side effects. I still have a lump on my arm, two and a half weeks after my jab. I spoke to the doctor this morning and she said she'd seen a few of these. Mine at least has finally stopped hurting and is less swollen than it was.

I know someone else who was vomiting and in bed for about five days after her jab.

cathyandclare · 29/03/2021 10:46

I was ill for over 48 hours. Although I was less achy and uncomfortable the second night, I still felt poleaxed with fatigue. By the end of day 3 I felt back to normal.

tsmainsqueeze · 29/03/2021 10:57

I became ill 20 hours after my 1st , felt much ,much worse than when i had the virus which was very mild .
6 days later felt normal again .
i will be getting 2nd jab but don't think i will have annual vacc in future if that's the plan.

ThankGodForChocolate · 29/03/2021 12:01

Wow I didn't realise side effects were worse in younger people I wouldn't have expected that, hoping I feel better tomorrow because I can't have any more time off work

MiL and FiL both fine with both doses of AZ. DM
In bed for 2 days after first dose of Pfizer.
