Will you be going back to the gym?

I've got so used to exercising outdoors I'm not looking forward to indoor excercise again.
Running outdoors compared to running nowhere on a treadmill? No contest.
Anybody else changed how they view excercise this last year?

I won’t be as I don’t personally think it’s safe but that’s just my personal opinion.

Unventilated studios/gyms with an Airbourne virus are not a great mix. I’m convinced the gym is where my husband picked up Covid just before Christmas.

itssquidstella · 26/03/2021 07:56

Yes, I can't wait. I really miss my weights classes - it's just not possible to replicate at home, and it shows! Looking forward to getting ripped again.

MarcelineMissouri · 26/03/2021 07:58

I am desperate to get back to body pump and swimming. I enjoy running anyway but it’s not the same when you have no other options. I hate doing workouts at home as we don’t really have the space. So no, I can’t wait!

cirrusminor · 26/03/2021 08:01

I'm desperate to get back, I lift and my body's missed it so much. Definitely way more keen for that than the pubs or restaurants opening. Agree with you though OP, I'm not a huge fan of gym cardio.

Mindymomo · 26/03/2021 08:02

We converted our garage into a gym for my adult son. He has spent a lot on equipment. So can’t see him going back to the gym (or moving out any time soon). Seemed like a good idea at the time, but he’s happy.

likeamillpond · 26/03/2021 08:06

I'm looking forward to rejoining some of class.
But the gym equipment side of it isn't for me.

Yes, can't wait. Love running outdoors but miss spinning, body pump and having lots of variety.

ThreeKneeRepeater · 26/03/2021 08:09

Yes. Can’t wait.
I’ll be going back for swimming in April, but am really looking forward to the classes, hopefully starting in May. I miss all my gym friends.

ManyMaybes · 26/03/2021 08:09

It’s always baffles me that people would pay for a gym membership to use a treadmill when it’s much more interesting to run outside, and is free. Also something odd about treadmills and how they affect my ankles...

But for weights there is no replacement for a gym unless you are wealthy. Proper weights are very expensive and require suitable flooring to avoid things getting damaged. Not your 5kg home dumbbells, but 30kg plus dumbbells and way above for barbells. Anybody who says home workouts can be just as effective are probably telling you that on a video trying to sell you their home workout course.

The only option that comes close is outdoor gyms with pull up and other bars for body weight exercises, which I like to use in good weather. But there are not many bars usually so always full, and people let their children play there as well. Not idea!

So I can’t wait to get back to the gym and do some proper weight lifting! Couldn’t care less about the covid risk to myself or others that have made the same decision to disregard the minuscule risk.

Neron · 26/03/2021 08:11

Yes...and also back on the mats in the closest contact sport you can get. Cannot wait!

daisiesanddaffodils · 26/03/2021 08:13

I gained a lot of weight when the gyms were closed!

I’d like to but am on maternity leave so money is tight. Then when I am back at work I won’t have much time. So I think my gym days are at an end.

Murtaghjames · 26/03/2021 08:13

Yes I miss the weights. I'm walking a lot now but love the buzz after a tough class. I miss the chat and craic too.

Whatever9999 · 26/03/2021 08:14

I've always split my training between the gym and outside. My PT and I prefer to train outside and running outside is a million times better than in the gym, but...

I also like to lift heavy things and need a gym for that.

So yes I'll be back in the gym the day it opens, in fact it'll be the day after as my children have an inset day

Alittlelouder · 26/03/2021 08:21

No, I've built myself a mini gym. I can have my workouts done in less time than it would take to me travel to and from the gym. So much more time efficient. I'm fitter too as I often squeeze in an extra workout if I have a spare 30 minutes.

ivfbeenbusy · 26/03/2021 08:23

I'm actually contemplating joining a gym when they reopen - I enjoyed doing couch to 5k but not in the dark/bad weather. Also I want to get back to swimming (I had twins in January and got a lot Of work to do!)

zzizzer · 26/03/2021 08:25

After I've had the vaccines, yes. Until then, no.

I am so looking forward to going swimming again one day, I miss it terribly.

Dozer · 26/03/2021 08:27

Won’t be returning to gym/classes for quite a while yet due to covid, just seems unnecessary risk, but miss weights, group classes and swimming. Want to swim when that opens.

Also think would still enjoy the treadmill sometimes, as though have done it a lot don’t always enjoy running outdoors: hills and cold/hot weather!

VanCleefArpels · 26/03/2021 08:28

No. I’m lucky to have a dedicated space with equipment at home with a TV that can stream YouTube videos. I find the variety of videos and being able to do it at a time convenient to me far outweighs the gym experience which I never found that sociable anyway

Aebj · 26/03/2021 08:31

I live in Australia and the gyms have been open for just under a year ( apart from a week in February). We had to initially book in for classes but now we don’t have to. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a small gym but it’s kept very clean by the staff and we all wipe down equipment after use. Lots of spray and wipes provided. I love being back in the gym

changi · 26/03/2021 08:33

Yes. I have a quite well equipped home gym but I miss the social aspect.

capercaillie · 26/03/2021 08:36

Will probably go back to swimming but avoid the busier times in my pool and not hang round the changing rooms. Bought myself a dry robe so I stick that on and go straight home. Just don’t think gym and gym classes are safe so it will be awhile until I do that. Possibly when vaccinated fully.

user1493494961 · 26/03/2021 08:39

No, I've been walking 5 miles a day plus Yoga, so don't see the need.

Same for me. I use online workouts and managed to buy some good weights on eBay. I loved the gym but am not sure I can justify paying for it when there’s less available than there is online. I used to go partly for the social aspect but am now volunteering at a vaccine centre so see people there. Hmmm...
AxCap · 26/03/2021 08:43

I'm already back and loving it. My gym has spent a lot of time and money building an outdoor area where we can train at the moment - they take the machines and weights outside and it's great. Exercising at home just couldn't get the same intensity for me as I don't want that level of equipment in the house.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 26/03/2021 08:46

I'll be there as soon as possible.

Disability makes a gym/pool necessary for some
