The vaccine delay has really knocked me

For background I'm 49 and a lone parent. of course it's good about the amount of vaccines done. But right now, the sudden announcement of the delay last week felt like the final straw somehow for me.

I had already been worried about dcs back at school, but was following the news closely, looking on the vaccine calculator regularly, and -stupidly- told myself it would be in April. Feels like I was hanging on by my fingertips for that.

Since that's been withdrawn I feel so down. Most people I know seem to have got the vaccine now. I'm wondering if for 49s it will even get here in May - if there's a shortage they'll have to prioritise second doses.

I'm surprised how much it's knocked me down. Just totally lacking in hope now, thoroughly fed up, feel depressed. Anyone else get this?

Well someone else would have to provide shopping and medications. The main thing is he wouldn’t be able to go get DD if needed (I had to pick her up from school recently after an injury).
I did get the flu jab on the basis he was ECV.

Sidewalksue · 26/03/2021 17:27

And he would suffer (as would DD) as he is a TERRIBLE cook 🤣

Cornettoninja · 26/03/2021 17:48

I think it’s safe to say that you qualify as a carer then. Don’t overthink it. Vaccines aren’t such a precious resource that you need to scrutinise your status too deeply. Compared to a family without a CEV member you’re at a definite disadvantage.

And don’t inflict terrible cooking on your dc! Grin

Sidewalksue · 26/03/2021 18:01

I’ll try then. Thanks

Booked in for Monday! Shocked. Thanks all!

Cornettoninja · 26/03/2021 18:17

I’m really pleased for you. Hope it all goes smoothly @SidewalksueGrin

middleager · 26/03/2021 19:25

Good luck!

Swirlingasong · 26/03/2021 21:11

@AlexaShutUp and @IloveJKRowling, thank you for understanding. The school is sympathetic but there is only so much they can do with the building they have. This year has been so lonely bad our concerns have been so different from others' and people I thought were friends have disappeared

Swirlingasong · 26/03/2021 21:12

As our concerns, that should say!

GreyHairedGardener · 26/03/2021 21:26

@daisiesinmayhang on in there. I'm 49 and a half! I was so depressed on Wednesday with the thought that I was going to have to wait at least a month. Then I got a text message from my GP yesterday...saying as I was 49 I could book a vaccine slot....I cried! Had the Pfizer vaccine today. SO RELIEVED😃

Freddiefox · 26/03/2021 21:52

@daisiesinmay

How is everyone doing now? Today the news does seem to be saying no first doses in April for under 50s. I wish we could be told properly thought- and given an idea of when first doses will start back up? It feels like they've tried to get this past us without anyone noticing.

I'm trying to just get over it and accept things but I still feel like we've been tricked a bit really and feel annoyed that nobody is talking to or about the under 50s at all now.

Tbh honest really really angry, furious if the truth be told. If I could walk off I would.

42 single parent. Work run a nursery with no social distancing at all, and still don’t have the vaccine.

All of which I would be ok, if I stopped hearing of people who are having the vaccine that working from home. 😡

Do something about it. Get yourself booked in as an unpaid carer.
Many are doing it.[/quote]
Surely you need some sort of proof?

My dad is disabled and mum is struggling to cope. Neither is CEV but they could rally do with me helping, they are too scared to let me in as I'm unvaccinated.

I'm 46 and feel so frustrated. My area is very slow apparently.

DenisetheMenace · 26/03/2021 23:29

Completely understand but hang on in there. You’ll be jabbed in a month which is faster than the original timetable.

User27aw · 27/03/2021 07:00

The Moderna vaccine is supposed to be arriving in April. Im placing my hopes on that, surely that will be going straight to the 40 year olds.

UnaLength · 27/03/2021 07:04

Lots of my perfectly healthy younger friends have had the vaccine now and I'm beginning to think the whole thing is a shambles.

I'm 45 but two of my friends in their twenties had the vaccine this week and neither know why they were called up as they have no underlying conditions.

Plumedenom · 27/03/2021 07:14

Look at the plus side, if most people you know are vaccinated then you are also well on the way to being protected. They have only had one jab, so they are not invincible either. Just try to keep going, knowing it's only four months until everyone has a level of protection.

My mum lives on her own, doesn’t drive and has what she calls bad legs. She can walk but long distances hurt. My sister has been giving her lifts and doing her shopping etc. My mum is definitely not CV and my sister is not her carer. But my sister (46) has had it and her husband (47) so that they can help my mum. They didn’t lie they just set out the situation to GP receptionist and later she rang with news they could have it the following day. (I’m a bit jealous!) could this work for you?

I'm sorry this is just not true, especially if vaccinated people are being a lot more laissez faire with the rules, which seems to be the case.
