Can this be true? Tons of people lying to get vaccine.

My mum has just told me that my dodgy cousin (about 30) has just had his vaccine with all of his builder mates by lying and saying they are ‘unpaid carers’ on the nhs website. She said no one bothered to check any of them.
Firstly, how bloody outrageous of them pulling the wool over the vaccine centres eyes and secondly, why isn’t their any check, however minor?
I know we all need to get done eventually but this has really pissed me off.

I've seen at least one person on this thread saying it's OK to get a vaccine by lying, who has been elsewhere berating other people for selfishness...

SleepingStandingUp · 21/03/2021 19:18

Excuse me?
children of single parents with no support network be placed with foster carers?
So what would your suggestion be @Lentillover1900??

SleepingStandingUp · 21/03/2021 19:19

@megletsecond

I really hope people aren't doing this. I'm 46 and desperately waiting for mine. I can't afford to get ill because my DD is so challenging. If I get ill I can't restrain her.
Are you not registered with your GP as her carer?
yeOldeTrout · 21/03/2021 19:22

We all have to get the jab eventually, Once most the over 70s are jabbed, I don't care what order everyone else gets jab in.

x2boys · 21/03/2021 19:24

Different places must be doing it differently @TalbotAMan I was able to book my DH,vaccine for ten minutes after mine ,both group six,me because I'm carer for our disabled child, and him because he has underlying health issues ,and no long queues when we went it was very efficient.

I think there's a difference between being a carer with a shit GP who would be getting it of she was at a surgery down the road and telling an omission to get in the right group and out and put making up a pile of bullshit to get it before you should

Well isn't that lovely for all the vulnerable loved ones you have under 70 eh.
PlumpAndDeliciousFatcat · 21/03/2021 19:27

I was about to make a similar point to @wintertravel1980 - if the impact of the vaccine on transmission is as we hope, and if the people doing this are also the sort of people who are not observing social distancing etc, then there is part of me which wants them vaccinated for the impact on overall rates in the community.

I know that it is unfair and galling but I find it helpful to try and be pragmatic.

Dailywalk · 21/03/2021 19:27

I think lots of people are finding ways round the system and it makes me furious. Examples I can think of include a friend who is mates with a doctor who has managed to get all her friends’done’, a 19 year old athlete who has classed himself as a carer, and a gardener who happens to work at a care home (mowing the lawn!)

Mummyoflittledragon · 21/03/2021 19:30
@Mummyoflittledragon not me. I'm 60 in July no booking system in Scotland, and no sign of an invitation yet. I'd be willing to travel
That’s rubbish. I did mean to say in England. As you’re in Scotland, it shouldn’t be long - According to this doing 55+ now. On the page before there is a phone no. But if I’m reading this correctly, you aren’t supposed to book until told to do so. www.nhsinform.scot/covid-19-vaccine/invitations-and-appointments/who-will-be-offered-the-coronavirus-vaccine

ichundich · 21/03/2021 19:30

I'm not surprised. Was chatting in the park with some mums from my son's class after school on Friday (distanced). Out of 5 I was the only one who hasn't had the vaccine. We're all early 40ies; two of the vaccined ones run a bloody marathon about once a month!

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 21/03/2021 19:35

@Sleepyblueocean

My experience has been the opposite - that people who could book automatically because they receive carers allowance and had invitation to vaccine letters with them, were still being asked to provide "proof".
I had a similar experience too when I went, they assumed I was a worker or a carer and asked why I was there when I wasn't. In my case it was clinical and thankfully I'd brought something with me though it was suddenly not needed. I am young to have had what qualified me but at no point was bringing proof mentioned and I left with the feeling that if I hadn't offered to show it they may not have vaccinated me.

"I think there's a difference between being a carer with a shit GP who would be getting it of she was at a surgery down the road and telling an omission to get in the right group and out and put making up a pile of bullshit to get it before you should" Well, yes, I can obviously see the difference, it's just ironic realising that at least some of the "SELFIIIIIIISH EVILLLL" crowd can develop nuance once there's something in it for them.

x2boys · 21/03/2021 19:35

It comes to something when we have vaccine envy! There was an article in my local paper about Amir khan ( the boxer) receiving the vaccine ,and there were lots of whys he got it ,it must because he's famous etc ,well apparently he has type one Diabetes ,my point being just because someone looks fit and healthy doesn't mean they don't have under lying health issues.

dementedma · 21/03/2021 19:35

I’m 57, in Scotland and got mine today. I am an unpaid carer for my mother but when I registered on the site it said we cant give you an appointment as one has already been allocated. next day I got my letter so not sure if the site had prompted it

I don't know as you've quoted me there if you're including me or not but I didn't have to lie to get mine, I have a decent GP who has DH and I down as carers
Lofari · 21/03/2021 19:38

This makes me so angry. I AM an unpaid carer and have waited my turn patiently. I have mine this week.

Fayrazzled · 21/03/2021 19:40

People are definitely lying to get the vaccine claiming they are unpaid carers. A friend text me yesterday suggesting the same thing as she'd heard about it from someone else who'd done it. I'm not willing to lie to get it though.

Shrivelled · 21/03/2021 19:40

@ichundich it’s possible to be fit and healthy in spite of an underlying health condition. People with blood clot disorders like myself have to keep fit and healthy to prevent clots. Doesn’t mean we’re any less deserving of being in group 6. Less judgement all round from everyone would go a long way here.

Fayrazzled · 21/03/2021 19:42

Just to add- this was through using the app and then going to a hub where no proof was required (not via the GP).

I have no problem with vaccines not going to waste and them vaccinating people- I've a friend who got done this way as a local GP offered them to teachers at the local school- but I think it is a bit much to lie about being an unpaid carer if you're not.

AuntLucy · 21/03/2021 19:43

Looks like all parents of junior school children are carers, according to the gloucs council website: www.gloucestershireccg.nhs.uk/your-health/health-topic/carers-2/

annabellacomestotea · 21/03/2021 19:50

I don't think it's fair but it's inevitable. It can be difficult to prove caring responsibilities.

If this was the case then many of the 40s-30s people would be carers wouldn’t they

Pastanred · 21/03/2021 19:51

There’s no shortage currently of vaccines so people lying aren’t stopping others as they’re using the main vaccination centres which mostly all have lots of availability hence all the spare doses going

The gps are using a totally different vaccine pathway and have less vaccines by comparison

Someone being vaccinated by the centres doesn’t really impact on the gp allocation as they’re dealing with group 6 vulnerable etc

Unpaid carers ae using the main big centres - many of which have lots of available slots and thus vaccines

Near me the big vaccination centres have slots available even for next day

The gps meanwhile ae only getting deliveries once a week. Many locally to be have been done by age at the big centres before being called as part of group 6 by gp

YouAreYourBestThing · 21/03/2021 19:51

@Pastanred

Everyone i know is doing this

But it works both ways

My local lea ‘bagsied’ all the spare doses last weekend and booked at the teachers in my town in - that was last week and yet my mates who are police etc actually got turned away

Lea are doing this is lots of areas to gwtvtrachers the vaccine dispite other occupations having higher risk of death etc

I’m teacher and many of my colleagues have gotten spares thru lea this way

Not right really

No...you're not a teacher 🤣🤣 Certainly not one who passed the English Skills Test part of the training anyway (which, by the way, is compulsory for every teacher, no matter what subject they teach!)

I AM a teacher, and would be mortified at writing a post like that! 😱
