Can this be true? Tons of people lying to get vaccine.

My mum has just told me that my dodgy cousin (about 30) has just had his vaccine with all of his builder mates by lying and saying they are ‘unpaid carers’ on the nhs website. She said no one bothered to check any of them.
Firstly, how bloody outrageous of them pulling the wool over the vaccine centres eyes and secondly, why isn’t their any check, however minor?
I know we all need to get done eventually but this has really pissed me off.

Are you serious that’s a comment I’d expect from my lower 6 - how immature are you

I’m a teacher but I don’t apply spag to my posts - you know, given it’s a forum not a lesson plan.

@SinkGirl i am in same position as you - ASD child but i dont want to tick i am a carer to a CEV person . I have phoned 119 today and they said i need to check if child is eligible on nhs website (i cant find where) and i would have to wait for local services to contact me.

I told my gp 2 weeks ago , they say its now noted on my record that i am a carer. But i still cannot book and have not been sent any link. I cant get through to my docs on the phone, only emails, and they have not replied in a week.

RedcurrantPuff · 21/03/2021 19:56

@TildaKauskumholm

Not sure it was ever a good idea to let anyone just book themselves in with no checks. In Scotland we have to wait for a letter, only then can we log in to change appointment time etc.
Not if you registered through the online portal for unpaid carers. I got a letter, I’m in group 6 due to BMI and being an unpaid carer, but he didn’t and registered via the portal last Monday, got a text on Thursday, and the jab today.
ThatsNotTheTeaHunty · 21/03/2021 19:57

@YouAreYourBestThing I wouldn't want you teaching my children with manners like that.

Grow up.

OvaHere · 21/03/2021 20:04

I've been wondering about this after seeing some discussion in an additional needs parenting group I'm part of. I haven't pursued a vaccine based on being carer because I don't seem to fit the criteria. DS has autism but isn't vulnerable to covid any more than an average teenager.

I don't have proof I'm his carer other than the paper work that pertains to his diagnosis, CAHMS sessions and his EHCP. I've never applied for DLA etc...on his behalf or CA for me because we are fortunate to have never needed the money. Our GP obviously knows his condition but I have no idea if I'm flagged as a carer- I assume not.

I do worry about being too ill to undertake my usual care taking but feel I'm somewhat in the middle ground. He'd be distressed that his usual routine had changed and he probably wouldn't attend college or do any work (I spend a lot of time facilitating that). Beyond that he would ultimately be okay - as in fed and cared for by his Dad and siblings even if they don't know how to manage him as well as I do.

I'm not really comfortable using a loophole whilst people who have greater vulnerabilities are still waiting. I am suffering a bit from FOMO though because all the older adults in my family have had theirs inc DH. I just missed out due to being a few years younger and falling into the 40s bracket.

ThanksItHasPockets · 21/03/2021 20:08

@ichundich

I'm not surprised. Was chatting in the park with some mums from my son's class after school on Friday (distanced). Out of 5 I was the only one who hasn't had the vaccine. We're all early 40ies; two of the vaccined ones run a bloody marathon about once a month!
This is why I've kept my vaccination very quiet. Almost no-one outside of my immediate family knows about my health condition and I'm not going to start advertising it now. You'd think the same of me, if not even worse as I'm younger than your friends.

Well you ought to! Your post lets you down (if you are actually a teacher!)

I would never comment on the spelling or grammar of a non-teacher, but if you are advertising your job whilst posting a comment, then at least uphold its values!

And I'm not the only poster who has noticed or commented, so I'm not sure why you've singled me out. Not that I care 🤷‍♀️

KimchiLaLa · 21/03/2021 20:08

Yes I'm hearing about more and more of
This. I heard of one person today saying she is a carer for her grandma to get it, and another getting it because a friend owns a pharmacy. They're both in their 20s and 30s.

x2boys · 21/03/2021 20:14

Tbh @OvaHere I really would apply for DLA for your son even if you don't need it financially ,sometimes it acts as a gateway for services ,and as he has an EHCP I think he would qualify ,sorry to digress

yeOldeTrout · 21/03/2021 20:15

I far prefer my attitude over the status of seething with vaccine envy. I keep getting a memo from all directions that "None of us are safe until all of us are safe" so no, it doesn't matter much to me what order the jabs go out in.

OvaHere · 21/03/2021 20:17

Thanks for the advice. Perhaps I should look into it if there other benefits to him having it.
Franklydear · 21/03/2021 20:31

@OvaHere receiving DLA will make it easier to apply for pip, when he is older, plus can get access to things like not waiting in the queue in theme parks, is not a jump the queue, but a wait the time around instead of still in a spot, D's couldn't do that, but happy to run around the ride while waiting, for example

likeamillpond · 21/03/2021 20:32

Sorry, but this sounds extremely implausible. My vaccination centre didn’t do this. My DH went to a different one, they didn’t do this. I’ve not heard of anyone on here saying this is what happened. If they did do it at yours, why didn’t you just complain?

Seems a mean thing to do, complain.
Especially when people are working so hard.

Thank you. I will look more into it.

x2boys · 21/03/2021 20:42

It's not just that but I have been able to access courses as a parent whose child gets DLA and in my LEA some disability groups are only open to DLA recipients ,this may or may not be relevant to your son @OvaHere but it definitely opens things up

I haven't found not having it an obstacle so far but he's fast approaching 18 so probably for his sake I do need to look into starting the process. He's been recently signed off from the CAMHS team and I did have a convo with his long term nurse practitioner about what to expect with adult services in the near future.
ichundich · 21/03/2021 20:56

@Shrivelled I understand it's possible. But there's a certain likelihood that in a group of 4 - seemingly - healthy adults at least some of them lied to get the vaccine.

x2boys · 21/03/2021 20:57

At that age he would probably be entitled to apply for PIp in his own right @OvaHere ,sorry to keep going on but I can only see it advantageous for adult services ,.

DavidsSchitt · 21/03/2021 20:57

The fact that there are vaccination centres with appointments available all day every day locally but group 6 are still waiting just seems so wrong.

These vaccines will go to waste

Stillgoings · 21/03/2021 21:02

My DH is CEV. He had blood cancer and is shielding and research has shown that the vaccine might only be 8% effective in people like him. I'm.realy tempted to tick the unpaid carer box as I work face to face with general public and I'm so scared that I put him in danger but the questions are things like do they need help going to the toilet, moving around the house etc. He doesn't, so it doesn't seem right but I have been so tempted over the last week and even more so after the delay to the 40+ group news...wish I had some brass neck!!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 21/03/2021 21:02

My experience has been the opposite - that people who could book automatically because they receive carers allowance and had invitation to vaccine letters with them, were still being asked to provide "proof"
Same at mine.

^
Yes at mine too. Only a week ago.

I guess they’ve done most of the actual elderly, so this is going to start happening now. Probably doesn’t massively matter if they get 18-49 yos somewhat in the wrong order, unfair as it is on the law abiding population.

GlamGiraffe · 21/03/2021 21:10

My gp surgery is STILL sorting out paperwork to place a carer flag by my DS's name. He canot get the vaccine without one it being done, tried. I dont know what is going on at all these supposed fraudulent centres because its proving completely impossible to get a vaccination (that you are entitled to) without the paperwork, let alone if you arent entitled to one.

NichyNoo · 21/03/2021 21:12

Yep, my 35 year old sister did it. You tick the box for social care worker on the app and you get an appointment. They don’t ask for ID.

DavidsSchitt · 21/03/2021 21:25

@Stillgoings I'd just go down and ask them if they'll do you!

Explain your DH has cancer and I'm sure they will. 2 of my family members just walked down to a local mosque they'd heard had spares and were jabbed there and then!

Franklydear · 21/03/2021 21:32

@OvaHere @x2boys definitely not disadvantages to having it, from 16 us pip he needs to apply for, adult services are very poor, he can still use amaze or similar to help until 26
