I need someone to tell me I’m ok 😩

I’m really sorry to start another thread but I’m panicking.

After much debate (due to severe anxiety) I had my Covid vaccine this morning.

I was given the AZ / Oxford.

Had it at 8.30am and by 4pm I had a slight headache.

6pm I started with shivers. Felt really cold and my back feels sensitive to touch.

I feel really hot but I’m cold. My temp is 37.4

I’m so anxious. I’ve considered calling 111, which I know, is ridiculous, but I suffer with such awful anxiety and I’m convincing myself something bad is going to happen to happen to me 😢😢

I’ve spent the majority of last year in and out of different therapies for anxiety and OCD all because of my health anxiety.

I’m really struggling. 😞

It's ok. You're fine. It's just your body's immune response kicking in - it's a good thing. Try to get some sleep.

ClearMountain · 12/03/2021 21:59

What you’re describing is your immune system responding to the vaccine and developing immunity. You might feel a bit off for 24 hours but the antibodies you’re currently creating will protect you from Covid.

RosieLemonade · 12/03/2021 22:00

I think most people who have side effects say they only last 24 hours or so.
Are you able to say what exactly is is that you are worried about?

StiggyZardust · 12/03/2021 22:01

I'm a nurse working at one of the vaccination hubs.
All the symptoms you are experiencing are completely normal. Make sure you're drinking plenty of fluids, take some paracetamol and have an early night.
You might feel unwell tomorrow, try and rest, keep going with the paracetamol and fluids. After 48 hours you will be fine.

dividedwefall · 12/03/2021 22:01

Ah bless you. I would be the same.

There is a great thread on this board www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4140247-Oxford-AstraZeneca-vaccine-and-the-side-effects.

Loads of people have had the same (and worse) side effects and have come through it no problem after 24-48 hours. It might reassure you as I know anxiety can make you feel even worse. But please do phone 111 if you feel it would help/you feel seriously unwell.

Hope you recover soon

MajesticWhine · 12/03/2021 22:02

This is a fairly normal reaction. Can you make yourself comfortable and have a nice early night, with something distracting to read or watch. See how you are tomorrow. It's nothing to worry about.

Whatalottachocca · 12/03/2021 22:02

It’s completely normal to feel like this. My husband and my in laws all felt like this too. 24-48 hrs later they were fine.

balkanscot · 12/03/2021 22:03

OP, I had very similar side effects, my temp. went to 38.2, shivers (my teeth were literally chattering), chills, muscle pain, headache... Alter I took paracetamol and had a sleep I woke up OK in the morning. Still felt pretty exhausted for most of the day but no more fever & other accompanying side effects.

I was freaked out as well, I have to admit (I am in the CEV group - cancer treatment) but it did get better fairly quickly. Hang on in there. 💐

Porridgeoat · 12/03/2021 22:05

These are normal symptoms

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2021 22:05

You’ll be ok op. Many many experience a short period of side effects. Friend of mine described it like having a bad hangover for a day and then a bit under the weather for 3 or 4 days. It’s great you’ve had the vaccine. Keep thinking of all the positives for you.

QuietBatPeople1 · 12/03/2021 22:06

I struggle with anxiety too. You are very brave to have had it... as the previous posters have said keep fluid level up and take it easy. Do you have someone you can speak to in real life?

HeronLanyon · 12/03/2021 22:07

Also thanks for the thread op. I’m having mine this weekend and plan to be ready for a day or so if feeling a bit crap. Cant wait and what a relief to have it though.

Eaumyword · 12/03/2021 22:09

Really sorry to hear you are struggling OP.
I had the AZ /Oxford a week ago and had the same reaction.
The good news is it will only be a short term reaction and you should be absolutely fine.
May I suggest the best thing you can do is take a couple of paracetamol for the symptoms, go to bed with a hot water bottle and a glass of water by your bedside and try and ride it out overnight. I woke feeling absolutely fine and gave been fine since. I have a history of autoimmune conditions and my body overreacting to perceived threat! I'm also super anxious! If I can do it, so can you Flowers
Is anyone in the house with you who can check on you?
If not, for your own peace of mind, do you have someone in real life that you can have on text standby to keep in touch with you?
As far as I understand it, this is a normal response to the vaccine and your body is gearing up to begin to recognise and fight Covid if it encounters the virus.

Wehaveanunderstanding · 12/03/2021 22:10

You are ok op! Hang in there! Maybe try and focus on how much calmer you will feel in three week's time or whenever it is that immunity kicks in - sort of like being in your own protective bubble - and think how pleasant it will be to be able to mix with other vaccinated people. Have you got a Netflix series or a podcast you could immerse yourself in? There are some good calming podcasts here: www.mentalhealth.org.uk/podcasts-and-videos/podcasts-for-your-wellbeing. Hope you feel better soon.

WhoAreYah · 12/03/2021 22:13

Completely normal response. Take some paracetamol and go to bed. You’ll feel better tomorrow (but not 100%). Day on the sofa and Sunday you’ll be fine.

I know it’s scary. I get health anxiety too.

whataballbag · 12/03/2021 22:14

Health anxiety is so fucking hard. I suffer from it myself and was EXACTLY the same after my jab. I made my children's father (in our bubble incase anyone wonders) stay in the spare room for 2 nights because I was CONVINCED I was going to die in the night.

I'm absolutely fine (still) 3 weeks later. And the crappiness only really lasted for just over 24 hours.

You really really will be fine

DanceForeverUnderTheLights · 12/03/2021 22:15

I had the AZ jab Wednesday. 8 hours later, I had cold chills, followed by hot sweats and aching joints. I took regular paracetamol and was fine after 24 hours. I've heard it's really common with this vaccine.

needadvice54321 · 12/03/2021 22:16

@justanothername2

I had my AZ vaccine early evening Wednesday , I felt shocking yesterday - 39c temp, very achy, tired but couldn't sleep Angry, headache, thirsty and minimal appetite.
Woke up this morning and the vast majority gone! Felt a bit washed out all day - you know that feeling you have after feeling crap? But other than that I've been up and about, managed a walk etc

You'll get there! Hope you feel better soon x

chipsandgin · 12/03/2021 22:20

Everyone I know so far who has had the Oxford vaccine has had exactly the same as you describe OP - apparently gone 12-24 hours after it starts, which by all accounts I’ve heard is 8-12 hours after the vaccine. Sounds a bit shit & I’m not looking forward to that aspect of it, but it does sound pretty standard tbh. Hope you feel better soon OP.

WendyTestaburger · 12/03/2021 22:27

Breathe, paracetamol, bed, box set!

Totally normal for this vaccine.

The people I know who've had the Oxford have ticked all the vulnerable categories between them, including ECV. They all felt rough for a day or so. Then less rough and then totally OK.

Diesse · 12/03/2021 22:30

I had the AZ vaccination. You are going to be completely fine, you really are. Take a couple of paracetamol, snuggle up and know that your immune system is doing it’s thing. All will be absolutely fine!

justanothername2 · 12/03/2021 22:38

@RosieLemonade

I’m afraid I might be seriously ill and need to go to hospital. 😔

@justanothername2 do you have anyone with you? Or you could ask to call/text to check in with you?

UmbilicusProfundus · 12/03/2021 22:43

LISTEN TO EVERYONE ON THIS THREAD.

YOUR ANXIETY IS LYING TO YOU, BECAUSE ANXIETY IS A BITCH AND THAT’S WHAT IT DOES!

(Sorry for shouting)
