I need someone to tell me I’m ok 😩

I’m really sorry to start another thread but I’m panicking.

After much debate (due to severe anxiety) I had my Covid vaccine this morning.

I was given the AZ / Oxford.

Had it at 8.30am and by 4pm I had a slight headache.

6pm I started with shivers. Felt really cold and my back feels sensitive to touch.

I feel really hot but I’m cold. My temp is 37.4

I’m so anxious. I’ve considered calling 111, which I know, is ridiculous, but I suffer with such awful anxiety and I’m convincing myself something bad is going to happen to happen to me 😢😢

I’ve spent the majority of last year in and out of different therapies for anxiety and OCD all because of my health anxiety.

I’m really struggling. 😞

You’ll be fine, as others have said, paracetamol regularly, and plenty of fluids for 48 hours, that’s the standard advice they give out at the vaccination, usually they give you a leaflet with that information on it too.
If you have a temp, then rest, but keep up with the treatment. Try to concentrate on the fact that this is your body doing it’s job, and be glad you had the vaccine to protect yourself and others. Hope you feel better soon.

20viona · 13/03/2021 07:36

All normal side effects. Relax.

user1495884673 · 13/03/2021 07:41

I also had my vaccine yesterday morning. I have woken up feeling hot (probably got a slight temperature but I don't have anything to measure it) and thirsty. Sounds like we are on a similar, totally normal path.

WineInTheWillows · 13/03/2021 07:50

Oh dear, OP, sorry you're feeling so rough. I have a touch of health anxiety myself and what helps me is to focus on the known and the likely.

The known:

  • How you're feeling is in line with normal expectations for vaccinated people.
  • If you call 111, they'll say you're fine, just rest up and take painkillers (though do call them if hearing that from them would help at all).
  • If it is a vaccine issue (unlikely) there's nothing you can do about it now and thus no point in worrying. Nothing you do now will impact on any possible outcomes. If symptoms worsen, deal with that then.

The likely:

  • While there are some severe reactions to the vaccine, the majority are fine.

54,000 people think they've had severe reactions/side effects to the AZ/Oxford jab according to the yellow card scheme, out of 9.7 million. That's 0.6%- tiny. Therefore 99.4% only experience the expected symptoms (most contraceptives have a lower success rate than 99.4%, yet we consider them very effective). And government findings suggest that most of those were coincidences rather than actual side effects/reactions.

www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7002e1.htm

You're OK. However, it is possible to catch COVID shortly before or shortly after being vaccinated, so if your temperature and symptoms persist beyond 48 hours it'd be wise to get a test.

Shit, sorry. Ignore the link above, it was supposed to be this one:

Anxiety is horrible isn’t it. I’ve not yet had my vaccination but I’ve followed the threads about side effects closely as I suffer from health anxiety so I feel I need to know what the usual side effects are, as I know I will feel hugely anxious about any side effects. From the outside looking in and based on what I’ve read you’re experiencing very common side effects and those I expect to experience when I have my vaccination. You’re absolutely fine your body is just mounting an immune response and the way you feel will pass soon. Take some slow deep breaths to help calm your body and mind and try to either rest or watch or listen to something you enjoy and remind yourself this is how lots of people feel after their vaccination and there are absolutely no worrying symptoms. It seems to be a vaccination that causes quite a few side effects but this is your immune system working and doing it’s job.

PandemicPalava · 13/03/2021 07:58

My mum had 2 days of this and the rest of the week felt just a bit off. It's fine and very common

KitesFlyingInTheWind · 13/03/2021 08:05

It's OK.
I felt shocking after mine- pains all over, headache, etc etc.
It's an immune response, which is what you want to happen! If your body comes into contact with covid again, it recognises it and can fight it.

(and mine lasted around 36 hours and then went completely)

(Obviously I you feel really bad then seek medical advice)

frumpety · 13/03/2021 08:07

Are you ok to take some more paracetamol, have a drink and go back to bed for a bit ? Do you have any techniques you usually use when your anxiety level is high ?

I feel like I can deal with the head aches and pains etc.
It’s the temperature that really makes me panic 😞

Hi there! I hope your feeling better soon and try not to worry but I understand it's hard not to when you're feeling so crap.

I had the Oxford vaccine 2 days ago and I was told by the nurse these symptoms could last 48 hrs and if anything occurred after those 48 hrs then I could call the doctor. So if you're only 24 hrs in them it's all normal I'm afraid.

needadvice54321 · 13/03/2021 08:08

Morning @justanothername2 , just came on to wish you a restful day. I'm on day 3 now and feeling much better Smile. You will get there xx

needadvice54321 · 13/03/2021 08:09

Paracetamol should help with the temp, mine went to 39c and with a couple of paracetamol and a sleep it was down to normal within about an hour x

tumtitum · 13/03/2021 08:10

Just to say that when I had my vaccine (also AZ) I was told that side effects could potentially last up to 7 days. But most are 24-48 hours. I had mine at10am in the morning and felt fine until I woke up the next day, so approx24 hours later. I felt like I had the flu, took paracetamol and rested and gradually felt better. Everyone reacts differently but your reaction sounds normal to me.

giletrouge · 13/03/2021 08:45

Hello justanothername2 I was on your other thread, so it's good to catch up with how you're doing.
I had exactly the same after-effects as you, including temperature. It was all over in about 48 hours, it was just ike having a mild and very short flu. And then I was better!
And you'll be better too. There's nothing to be concerned about. I know you're anxious and it's really really hard not to listen to your anxiety, but your anxiety doesn't know that you've had a vaccine and that all these symptoms are normal, your anxiety is just running around panicking.

You are going to be fine and you'll be protected from covid, which is fantastic and brilliant. Just a day or two to get through this. That's all.

ittakes2 · 13/03/2021 09:19

I have OCD - and I also had ther AZ and a temp of 37.8. But it went after 24hrs. I was dizzy for a bit longer but I actually think part of my dizzyness was I was stressed about having had the vaccine and having a temperature and so was breathing rapidly for a few days. You'll be fine.

ittakes2 · 13/03/2021 09:21

One thing I would like to add that afterwards - I was glad I had had a temperature as it meant that my body's immunne system had kicked in. I will do a covid antibody test but since I had a temperature I would expect it to show I have antibodies. Yay!

@ittakes2

I am an OCD sufferer too. 😔

Was yours 24hrs after the vaccine?

I started feeling crappy 12 hours after the vaccine, it’s been 24 hours since I had it now.

I’ve taken some paracetamol and my temp is down to 36.8

Just hope it stays down. 😔

dappledsunshine · 13/03/2021 09:36

You will be fine. Your immune system is reacting in a perfectly healthy way and doing exactly what it should to protect you.

Step away from the thermometer today and find something you enjoy doing to distract yourself. The side effects will pass.

Lupinhere37 · 13/03/2021 09:53

Hey op. It’s nearly 2 days since I had mine but I have still got a temp of 38 this morning. I’m wearing summer clothes and have all the windows and patio doors open to keep cooler.
My DD is shivering under blankets because I’ve made the house so cold!
I’m not worried at all; the great news is that the accompanying shivers and generalised aching has about 90% gone. Just feel a little washed out now. And VERY hotGrin.
Take some paracetamol and rest. Watch a good box set to distract you.
As pp has said, these are known side effects. Please don’t worry.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 13/03/2021 09:56

You’re ok Flowers

Your immune system is a wonderful thing and doing what it’s supposed to.

Perfectly normal.

Take regular paracetamol, rest and try and get engrossed in a series or book.

Side effects should pass in 48 hours ish.

Well done and Thankyou for having the vaccine BrewFlowersCake

Branleuse · 13/03/2021 09:57

what do you normally do for anxiety and panic OP? Could you have a valium and sit under a blanket and watch trashy telly today?

I'm not sure the vaccine produces antibodies. I searched this after my first dose out of curiosity, but I couldn't find a definite answer!

@Branleuse

I don’t have very many coping techniques 😞

I am currently in bed trying to relax and watch tv.
