I’m really sorry to start another thread but I’m panicking.

After much debate (due to severe anxiety) I had my Covid vaccine this morning.

I was given the AZ / Oxford.

Had it at 8.30am and by 4pm I had a slight headache.

6pm I started with shivers. Felt really cold and my back feels sensitive to touch.

I feel really hot but I’m cold. My temp is 37.4

I’m so anxious. I’ve considered calling 111, which I know, is ridiculous, but I suffer with such awful anxiety and I’m convincing myself something bad is going to happen to happen to me 😢😢

I’ve spent the majority of last year in and out of different therapies for anxiety and OCD all because of my health anxiety.

I’m really struggling. 😞

You are fine.

DM had horrid symptoms after hers. Very similar to what you describe for about 24 hours then it was gone.

You are absolutely fine, just rest up xx

I had my AZ vaccine early evening Wednesday , I felt shocking yesterday - 39c temp, very achy, tired but couldn't sleep Angry, headache, thirsty and minimal appetite.
Woke up this morning and the vast majority gone! Felt a bit washed out all day - you know that feeling you have after feeling crap? But other than that I've been up and about, managed a walk etc

You'll get there! Hope you feel better soon x
Funny you mention no sleep I had same side effects a literally was awake all night.

Wellbythebloodyhell · 12/03/2021 22:50

Water, paracetamol and get into bed. Switch off Mumsnet and other SM..listen to a relaxing podcast or audio book instead.

MissConductUS · 12/03/2021 22:50

My DH had insomnia for two nights after his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. It's a fairly common side effect.

toocold54 · 12/03/2021 23:01

Do you live with anyone else/have someone who can check on you?

I’d try and get some sleep and see how you feel but if you feel you need to go to the hospital then go as it may be something else and just a coincidence that you’ve had the vaccination.

I am pretty certain it will just be the side effects of the vaccination though and maybe the symptoms are heightened if you have anxiety.

justanothername2 · 12/03/2021 23:02
@justanothername2 do you have anyone with you? Or you could ask to call/text to check in with you?
@whataballbag

Yes I’ve got my husband with me.

He’s trying to be supportive but I know it’s irritating him because he’s finding it hard to calm me down. 😔

@LuluJakey1

Have you taken two paracetemol?
@LuluJakey1

Yes I’ve taken some an hour and a half ago.

TrunkintheJunk · 12/03/2021 23:07

Hi Op. I had the same side effects as you. I took a paracetamol and went to bed. I was fine a couple of hours later x

cakeallday · 12/03/2021 23:08

You're fine. This is normal.

I had the AZ vaccine last week. The next day I felt rough, it was like COVID but just for 24 hours. The following day I was fine except for tiredness (I was well enough to volunteer at a vaccination centre!).

partyatthepalace · 12/03/2021 23:09

You are fine. This reaction is completely normal. It’s your body’s immune system kicking in. Rest over the weekend if you continue to feel ill.

LuluJakey1 · 12/03/2021 23:11

I had astrazeneca and had no side effects. DH had Pfizer and he had a temperature, headache, felt achey. Just took paracetamol for 24 hours. Was fine.

Literallynoidea · 12/03/2021 23:12

You're fine. You will probably feel shattered tomorrow. Then you'll be ok.

Don't overthink it. It's good that you've had the jab and you're lucky to have had it.

TalkToTheWind · 12/03/2021 23:14

I had mine at 9am. By 4:30pm I had a headache but nothing out of the ordinary. I fell asleep on the sofa. Then four hours later I had sweat inducing diarrhoea with cramps. I was shaking and my temp is 37.5.
We got some paracetamol and co codamol yesterday so I have had some co codamol and I am in bed with the shakes.
I know this will go and I am trying to be happy my immune system is being kicked into working.

Wrap up. Fluids. Paracetamol. Telly xxx

Yebanksandbraes · 12/03/2021 23:14

You are ok.

You will not get seriously ill from the vaccine.

You will not end up in hospital because of it.

The vaccine is made of tiny bits of virus protein. They didn't give you Covid. You will be fine.

Repeat to yourself over and over
"I did the right thing, I will be fine"

You have been so brave, I really admire you.

Whiskeyontherocks · 12/03/2021 23:17

Take a couple of paracetamol & get yourself off to bed. Your body is doing what its supposed to. I hope you feel a bit better in the morning.

Loopylou555 · 12/03/2021 23:18

I had my vaccine last Saturday lunchtime, also Oxford. By 9pm I was shaking and shivering so hard my teeth were rattling. Went to bed with the shakes, achy muscles and fatigue. I never had a temperature. Didn't sleep great, but Sunday morning just felt washed out with a bit of a headache. By Sunday lunchtime I was out of bed and dressed and By Sunday evening I was completely back to normal. Take a deep breath and remind yourself this is normal and a good sign of your immune system reacting to the vaccine.

ItsAllComingBackToMeNow · 12/03/2021 23:20

Echo what others are saying re this being normal.

Also, well done for getting the vaccine, OP, that must have taken a lot of bravery given your anxiety. You e done the right thing in getting it.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 12/03/2021 23:23

You will not be seriously ill. There is nothing wrong with you to make you seriously ill. You will feel like shit for 48 hours then recover.

It's normal, the vaccine is provoking an immune response exactly as it is supposed to. Fever is a good thing, it's a strong response, your body thinks there is a virus to fight and is heating up to make itself a very inhospitable host. But since there is no virus to fight it will subside quickly.

Lupinhere37 · 13/03/2021 02:12

Op, I had my AZ Thursday. Fever, chills, aching, sickness. Felt totally crap Friday but it is starting to pass now.
It’s normal. You’ll be fine. Just space out the paracetamol and keep taking fluids.
You’ll be fine; please don’t worry. Far better that you’re having transient vaccine effects than getting actual COVID.

CrayonInThreeBits · 13/03/2021 02:26

The vaccine effects will be short-lived because the safe virus that was injected into you is unable to replicate, unlike an ordinary virus, meaning all the virus is gone within a very short time. So how you're feeling right now is probably as bad as it's going to get.

Cattitudes · 13/03/2021 07:02

The thing with anxiety is that it warps the world. If you had no symptoms you would be anxious that it hadn't worked. At least this way you have some confidence that it has triggered an immune response so you can begin to reclaim your life.

justanothername2 · 13/03/2021 07:15

Woken up this morning and my temp is 38.1 I feel terrible. 😖
It’s nearly 24 hours since my vaccine.

OP posts:
ijokeijoke · 13/03/2021 07:19

My DP had his yesterday at a similar time and is also now feeling the same as you. He is just in bed relaxing.

I suffer from servere health anxiety so I completely understand you. But I don't think anyone has become very ill and needed hospital from this vaccine. So just do some deep breathing and try to stay calm.

You will be absolutely fine and you are also now safe from coronavirus. So it's a great thing. Thanks

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 13/03/2021 07:21

I had similar side effects and they lasted 48 hours after they started (not after the vaccine). They got a lot better after 24 hours and after 48 hours I felt completely normal again.
I know it’s had to think logically but if you can try:

 • you’ve had the vaccine
 • these are known side effects of the vaccine
 • therefore what you are feeling now are very very likely to be side effects of the vaccine and entirely normal.
 • the usually clear up 24-48 hours after they start. Therefore you should be feeling better soon.
JengaNonConfirming · 13/03/2021 07:24

My daughter was poorly for a few days afterwards, sweats, shiver, headache, nauseated, trouble sleeping. She felt terrible, but it passed and required no medical intervention. You'll be fine.
