Will lots just say 'stuff it' come the 23rd?

It'll soon be a year since lockdown was first called and me and DH have been watching lots of TV coverage over the last few days. It's just dawned on us this week that we have now not seen our parents for a year, the DC haven't hugged their grandparents, we haven't been for any days out as a family, DC1 hasn't had a single uni class in person. The list goes on.

DH and I are now quickly coming to the conclusion that we just cannot and will not go on living like this any longer as a family. Particularly when there seems to be no end in sight if you listen to people like Chris Whitty and Christina Pagel (who was wanting masks and social distancing for the foreseeable future last night on the news).

Both sets of parents are in their mid 60s and have been vaccinated. We are now strongly minded to visit both at the beginning of April and allow them to see their DGC.

I suspect we will not be alone. Will lots of people simply say 'no more' upon realising they've spent a year of their lives not living?

Well thankfully we have very effective vaccines. And they are now on to 50 -55 year olds in most places which is amazing considering it’s only mid March.
And I know that’s not ‘fully vaccinated’ blah blah. But one vaccination is more effective than the flu jab most year so this will have a huge impact.

MercyBooth · 16/03/2021 17:58

@Delatron I live in a small market town. I was queuing in Tesco on Saturday and got chatting to the guy in front about Covid in general He works in a local care home and they lost 13 residents to Covid

InfoInfoInfo · 16/03/2021 18:01

Be careful @JuneSummer some on here will call you a murderer.... some on here love the drama and the numbers and until no deaths and no cases of covid EVER in the entire UK then we must all lock up.

Barely any cases in our area and has been under 10 in 100,000 for some time now and fed up with behaving like every time you get within 2m of anyone you will drop down dead...

PrincessNutNuts · 16/03/2021 18:01

So when Chris Whitty says all the SAGE modelling shows a minimum of a further 30,000 covid deaths and that this is because not everyone in the UK will have been vaccinated when restrictions are eased, or be fully protected having had both the jabs, therefore allowing the virus to continue to circulate.

"All the modelling suggests there is going to be a further surge and that will find the people who either have not been vaccinated or where the vaccine has not worked. "

And

"Some of them will end up in hospital and sadly some of them will go on to die.”

You just think NAH!"?

Funny how Covid is only serious when its us dirty working class plebs who want a haircut but those on Dancing on Ice Saturday Night Takeaway can have one. They are around a sight more people and more often than i am.

InfoInfoInfo · 16/03/2021 18:06

@PrincessNutNuts

Hospitals are not full with covid patients.

Changeismyname · 16/03/2021 18:07

@StylishMummy

We've said 'fuck it' since all our parents and grandparents have been vaccinated. I'm CEV and have had 1st vaccinate. We're hosting 4 households for Easter weekend in the house, cannot wait to have the family back together. DC are going to grandparents for sleepovers, we're having friends round and meeting friends and family for walks and at the park. I genuinely don't know a single person who's now following 'the rules'.
You genuinely don’t know one person? I imagine you’re actually only paying attention to the people who are —bending— breaking the rules like you and are conveniently ignoring those of us who are still abiding by them for everyone’s good, even if it is bloody hard and involves a huge amount of sacrifice.
InfoInfoInfo · 16/03/2021 18:10

@PrincessNutNuts - people die all the time - it's what we all do at some point.... however some deaths are treated as more important than others.

Go to any nursing home and you will see that very old and ill people tend to die. It is a balance of not too many dying all at once. I personally find it awful that we put dogs down and yet make humans suffer on and on and on even when they no longer want to and death is treated as something to be avoided - it's normal

Delatron · 16/03/2021 18:10

Yes there will always be ‘surges’ of cases from time to time and people will die of COVID every year. But very soon most adults will have been vaccinated. The NHS won’t be overwhelmed and we will need to get on with treating all those other illnesses that exist and have been not treated for a year.

I like Chris Whitty but I’m not sure how accurate SAGE models have been throughout this pandemic. They want people to comply for two more months when most people are sick to death of this. That’s behind the messaging.
www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/hairstylist-slams-one-rule-them-23452197
Yep it is one rule for the rich and famous and another for day to day people

MercyBooth · 16/03/2021 18:23

@InfoInfoInfo Stephen Fry didnt half show them all up when he was filmed getting his vaccine last week. It was obvious that he believes hes not above the regs just because hes famous.

Racoonworld · 16/03/2021 18:25

@PrincessNutNuts do you get this worked up over people dying from the flu? Because usually a lot more than 30,000 people in the UK die of flu every year. I don't think 30,000 people dying of covid the rest of the year is particularly high numbers when you compare to that. Sad, yes of course it's always sad when people die. But not out of the ordinary.

Wondermule · 16/03/2021 18:34

@PrincessNutNuts

Some people? A quarter of our population have officially had the first jab if not the second as well. That is an irrefutable fact.

As for ‘a’ jab, if we are supposed to sit around waiting for yet another jab some months down the line, all the more reason to dig our heels in and get our lives back.

Wondermule · 16/03/2021 18:35

And way more than that from air pollution - 80,000 a year off the top of my head? - do you think we should all stop driving
@PrincessNutNuts
? Given that when you hop in your car you are contributing to another person’s death?

sleepwouldbenice · 16/03/2021 18:43

A year later and people still think it's about protecting the vulnerable rather than the whole of society
And they still think that the nhs solely couldn't cope due to underfunding
My word

Racoonworld · 16/03/2021 18:49

@Wondermule not a quarter, over a third have now had the first jab Grin

Racoonworld · 16/03/2021 18:51

@Wondermule good point. And what about road traffic accidents form those cars too? Maybe we should all keep holed up in our houses forever, even after covid, to stop all these avoidable deaths? I'm sure some people would love that!

DareIask · 16/03/2021 18:55

It bewilders me to read 'I'm so fed up with it, not doing it anymore'

Who exactly do you think isn't fed up with it?!

Wondermule · 16/03/2021 18:56

@DareIask

Introverts that enjoy working from home and having an excuse not to see family etc.
DareIask · 16/03/2021 18:57

@Wondermule then they won't break the rules anyway.

BonnieDundee · 16/03/2021 19:02

Interestingly on the BBC COVID stats page today looks like deaths are down to the normal 5 year average level. Looks like very little or no excess deaths.

ilovesooty · 16/03/2021 19:08

I'm not an introvert.
I'm paying rent every month on an almost unused office.
I hate working from home.
I still think we shouldn't be saying "stuff it" while restrictions remain in place.

MercyBooth · 16/03/2021 19:10

Anyone else watching Channel 4 news?

BonnieDundee · 16/03/2021 19:11

Surely you must recognise for a lot of people a year is all they can do?
