Secondary school children to wear masks all day. (indoor areas)
How many masks are you sending them with?

1 reusable mask to be worn and a spare in a bag in case something happens to the first. I'll wash and dry overnight.

CovidPostingName · 07/03/2021 11:20

One plus a spare. There's not a cat in hell's chance secondary kids will look after them properly so anything more is pointless anyway.

kowari · 07/03/2021 11:23

DS will take one. Only just bought enough so he can have one for every day until I put a wash on.

wonderstuff · 07/03/2021 11:23

Our daughter's school are recommending 3, which I'll start with and see how we go.

This I’d just send one in as will probably loose mess about with / break etc .
hopeishere · 07/03/2021 11:25

Three?! Hopefully not disposable ones. That is such a waste otherwise!!

Same. Also agree that it's pointless to send any more as they'll just get lost or DS will forget to change them when he should etc, etc.
wonderstuff · 07/03/2021 11:48

They are recommending washable masks, I agree disposable would be awful waste.

HarryLimeFoxtrot · 07/03/2021 11:51

I agree with one and a spare. It’s almost entirely performative, and I’m not buying any more masks at this point in time.

scaredsadandstuck · 07/03/2021 11:53

We've been asked to send them with 2.

greensnail · 07/03/2021 11:56

I'm sending DD with 3 and instructions to change at break time and lunch time. She's always managed fine with reusable ones until this point however I've got a pack of disposable as well now as I find them much more comfortable if being worn for longer periods ( I work in healthcare so have to wear them at work) so I thought better to give her the option if it's easier for her, especially as in the classroom she's going to need an option that is comfortable and won't steam up her glasses.

PotteringAlong · 07/03/2021 11:56

I’m a secondary teacher - we’ve asked ours to come with 2 a day.

Great! Thank you

One. Because pre lockdown he was sent with 3. But would lose them. Sick of spending on them. I was buying 3 a week to make up for losses.

My daughter's college won't allow reusable cloth masks. I dread to think of the waste going to landfill.

You can wash the blue ones, though I don't know how many washes they would last for. Put them in a bag or pillowcase, or take out the nose wire first so it doesn't get lost in the machine.
ineedaholidaynow · 07/03/2021 18:01

I'm sending DS in with 3, he also has 1 hour bus journey each way, so needs to change masks at some point as will get very damp otherwise

TimeForLunch · 07/03/2021 18:05

I also wash the disposable masks. Just chuck them in with the rest of the washing and they come out fine!

nex18 · 07/03/2021 18:08

I reckon 2, change at lunchtime.

Pastanred · 07/03/2021 19:17

knowing dd she'll use the same one all week and if she loses it, borrow her mates!

Get washable FFP2
margotsdevil · 07/03/2021 19:51

As a teacher who has to wear a mask all day 2, I find changing half way through the day just feels a bit fresher and makes the whole experience marginally less difficult. I appreciate I'm possibly doing a lot more talking than some pupils will though. I would send my own child with 3 - to allow for a change plus a spare.

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/03/2021 19:56

Two, one to wear and a spare. He's not lost any at school yet. I hope he manages OK, it's going to a lot more time wearing a mask than he is used to.

Starlightstarbright1 · 07/03/2021 20:02

He is secondary.. we now have a hook where i hang up clean masks. He can help himself.

megletsecond · 07/03/2021 21:54

Three. Morning / afternoon and a spare.
My house is full of cotton masks.
